kuṟai (p. 132) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To diminish, decrease, lessen, abate, wane, shorten, dwindle, decline, சிறுக. 2. To be reduced in numbers, value, circumstances; to be lowered in rank, estimation, கெட. 3. To be wanting, to prove insufficient, to lack, to be short in weight, measure, number, &c., to be scanty, எஞ்ச. 4. To be imperfect, incomplete, unfinished, defective, deficient, ஈனமாக. 5. [in gram.] To be cut off, dropped, omitted, suppressed, &c., சொற்குறைந்துவர. 6. To be scarce, dear, difficult of attainment, அருமையாயிருக்க. குறைய, inf. To be insufficient, to be wanting. ஏறக்குறைய, [adverbially.] Nearly, almost, about. நடைகுறைந்துபோயிற்று. He now cannot walk much. 2. His influence is reduced. 3. The speed is reduced--as of horses, cattle, &c. குறைந்தவிலை, s. A dear bargain; a high price. 2. A reduced price, a low price. குறைந்தமரக்கால், s. A scant measure. வயிறுகுறைய, inf. To be unsatisfied --as hunger. குறைச்சல், v. noun. [vul. for. குறைதல்.] Defficiency, dearness, poverty, displeasure, complaint, &c. குறைச்சலல்ல. It is not dear. குறைச்சலாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be dear, scarce, &c. குறைச்சலாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak ill of one. செய்கைக்குறைச்சல், s. Misbehavior, misconduct. மனக்குறைச்சல், s. Dissatisfaction, displeasure; grievance. குறைவு, v. noun. Lack, deficiency, dearness, want, scarcity. 2. Indigency, necessity, poverty, தரித்திரம். குறைவறுக்க, inf. To make up a deficiency, to supply wants, to meet exigencies, &c. குறைவானது. kuẕi (p. 128) க்கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To be formed--as a pit, a hole, a cavity; to be worn hollow. குழிந்தகண், s. Sunken eyes. குழிந்தெடுக்க, inf. [prov.] To scrutinize, to be very inquisitive, ஆராய்ந்து பார்க்க. குழியவிட, inf. [prov. in jewelry.] To form the halves of hollow gold-beads, which are afterwards soldered together. குழிவு, v. noun. kuṭukuṭu (p. 117) s. A rumbling noise, a guggling or sound of water running out of a vessel with a narrow mouth, ஒலிக்குறிப்பு. குடுகுடுக்க, inf. To rumble; to rattle. 2. To be in a great hurry. குடுகுடுகிழவன், s. A tottering, decrepit man; a very old man, தளர்ந்தவய தோன். குடுகுடுக்கை, s. A dry cocoanut in which the kernel rattles, காய்ந்தொலிக்குந் தேங்காய். குடுகுடுப்பை, s. Any thing hollow with a rattling inside, குடுகுடுக்கும்பொருள். 2. A small kind of taborine, ஓர்விதப்பறை. 3. [prov.] A wooden clapper for scaring away birds, மாமணி. தலைகுடுகுடுப்பைப்பற்றிப்போயிற்று. [prov.] The head is become very dry from want of oil. குடுகுடுப்பைக்காரன், s. A sooth-saying beggar with a குடுகுடுப்பை taborine. குடுகுடெனல், v. noun. Gurgling, rattling, rushing, &c., ஒலிக்குறிப்பு. குடுகுடென்றோடுகிறான். He shuffles along very fast. 8) *

kuṇkku (p. 118) s. Crookedness, flexture, curvature, கோணல்; [ex குட, crooked.] 2. Thwartness, opposition, thwarting, எதிரி டை. 3. The east, கிழக்கு--Note. In the last sense, the word becomes குண to convey an adjective signification--as in குணகடல், குணதிசை, குணநாடு. குணக்குப்பண்ண, inf. To thwart an undertaking; to cause difficulties in business, to throw obstacles in the way. குணக்கெடுக்க, inf. To straighten a crooked thing. நாயின்வாலைக்குணக்கெடுக்கலாமா. Is it possible to divest a dog's tail of its curl? குணக--குணங்க, inf. v. n. TO become bent or crooked, வளைய. 2. To sink, faint. fade, droop, சோர. 3. To be dejected; to feel uneasy; to be vexed, மனந்தளர. குணக்க, inf. v. a. To bend, to incurvate, வளைக்க. குணகோளார்த்தம், s. Eastern hemisphere; [ex கோளம், sphere, et அர்த்தம், half.] 8)

kuṇṭai (p. 119) s. A bull, an ox, எருது. 2. Taurus of the zodiac, இடபவிராசி. 3. [prov.] An earthen-pot, a chatty, சட்டி. 4. The ஈகை creeper. இடதுகுண்டை, s. The near-ox, the ox on the left side. முன்னோர்க்குண்டை, s. The foremost yoke of oxen. வலதுகுண்டை, s. The off-ox, the ox under the right side of the driver. குண்டைச்சட்டி, s. குண்டுச்சட்டி. 8) *

kuṟuṇi (p. 132) s. A nominal dry-measure, in quantity equal to the மரக்கால். பானையிலே பதக்கு நெல்லிருந்தால் மூலையிலே முக் குறுணித்தெய்வங்கூத்தாடும். If there be in a pot two குறுணி of paddy, three குறுணி of gods will be dancing in the corners of the house, said of those who spend at once what they have, in the temples, &c., and afterwards suffer want. 39)

kuḷṟu (p. 130) கிறேன், குளறினேன், வேன், குள ற, v. n. To stammet, through anger, confusion of mind, &c., உளற. 2. To howl, to yell, to make a hideous--as jackals, &c., நரிபேய்முதலியனகுளற. கன்னாபின்னாவென்று குளறுகிறான். He speaks nonsence. குளறுவாயன், s. A stammerer. குளறுகை, v. noun. Stammering. குளறிப்போக, inf. To jar--as a voice in singing, or to cry out for pain. குளறிப்போட, inf. To entangle, to bring to confusion. குளறியடிக்க, inf. [prov.] To roar and beat the breasts through grief. குளறியடித்துக்கிடக்க, inf. To lie in a great confusion. குளறுபடி, s. Confusion in business. குளறுபடியாய்க்கிடக்கிறது, It remains unsettled, irregular. 11)
