[prov.] Letter of administration. 2. Power of attorney. 3. Warrant. 4. Writ or authority of proxy. (Juffna usage.) தத்துவக்கட்டளை, s. Hindu physiology. தத்துவசாஸ்திரம், s. The philosophy of nature--as a science; physics, physiology, metaphysics, ontology. தத்துவசுத்தி, s. Purifying the faculties, members, organs, &c., by the use of water and incantations. தத்துவஞானம், s. Knowledge of the principles by which the soul is enthralled, and kept from union with the deity. தத்துவஞானி, s. A truly wise man, one acquainted with the ninety-six தத்துவம், and their various modifications. தத்துவதரிசனம், s. Knowledge of the mental, physical and other powers of nature. தத்துவதிரையம், s. A metaphysical trial; God, spirit, matter. (See திரிபதார்த் தம்.) 2. The three classes of faculties or powers. 1st. ஆத்துமசத்துவம். 2d. சிவ தத்துவம். 3d வித்தியாதத்துவம். தத்துவநூல், s. Works treating on physics. தத்துவபேதம், s. Difference of one power or faculty form another. தத்துவபிரகாசம்--தத்துவவிளக்கம், s. Works on metaphysics, physiology, &c. தத்துவவாதம், s. A system of religion that regards nature as god. தத்துவவாதி, s. A professor of the தத்துவவாதம், system. தத்துவன், s. Siva, as lord of all powers, சிவன். 2. Argha of the Jainas, அருகன். தத்துவாகமம், s. A book of physics, chiefly anatomical, அங்காதிபாதம். தத்துவாதி--தத்துவாதிகள், s. A class or division of the brahman caste, பிரா மணரிலொருவகுப்பு, They are commonly called தத்துவாரிப்பிராமணர். தத்துவாதீதன், s. tṇ (p. 222) s. Coolness; that which is refreshing, குளிர்ச்சி. 2. adj. Cool. (p.) தண்கதிர்--தண்சுடர்--தண்ணவன், s. The moon; (lit.) the cool-rayed, சந்திரன். தண்ணீர், s. Cold or fresh water, குளிர்ந்தநீர். 2. [improp.] Water in general, நீர். 3. What is too much diluted, இளகுந்தன்மை.--commonly used தண்ணி. தண்ணீராக, inf. To become watery, to be too much diluted. தண்ணீராக்க, inf. To cause one to have pity. 2. To dissolve metals. 3. To dilute. மனதைத்தண்ணீராக்கிவிட்டான். He has gained his good will. தண்ணீருக்குவிட, inf. To let cattle drink. தண்ணீரெற்ற, inf. To throw out water, with the feet, hands, &c. தண்ணீர்கட்ட, inf. To admit water into garden beds and confine it. தண்ணீர்காட்ட, inf. To water beasts. 2. To deceive, to tantalize; from the story of a buffoon who obeyed the command literally, and showed water to his master's horse, but did not suffer him to drink. தண்ணீர்காண, inf. To appear or gush out, as water in a newly dug well. தண்ணீர்குடித்தபாடம்--தண்ணீர்ப்பா டம், s. An expression used to denote intimate acquaintance. 2. A lesson well learnt. 3. A science well mastered. (c.) தண்ணீர்க்கண்டம், s. Accident by water. See கண்டம். தண்ணீர்கலசம்-தண்ணீர்க்குடம், s. A water-pot. தண்ணீர்க்காரன், s. (fem. தண்ணீர்க்காரி. vul. தண்ணீர்க்காரிச்சி.) A man who draws or brings water. தண்ணீர்க்கால், s. A water-course, a channel for water. தண்ணீர்தெளிக்க, inf. To sprinkle water for the purification of sheep, for sacrifice. 2. (fig.) To give one over to his own way. நான்அவனைத்தண்ணீர்தெளித்துவிட்டுவிட்டேன். I have left him to himself. தண்ணீர்த்தவனம்--தண்ணீர்விடாய், s. Thirst. தண்ணீர்த்துறை, s. The entrance to a tank, river, &c., where men or cattle go for water. தண்ணீர்பட்டபாடு, v. noun. Like water; i. e. profuse, plentiful, free. (c.) தண்ணீர்ப்பந்தல்--தண்ணீர்ச்சாலை, s. A shed where water, butter-milk, lemonade, &c., are furnished. தண்ணீர்ப்பிடி--தண்ணீர்ப்பிடிப்பு, v. noun. Being watery as food or fruits. 2. Containing water, as pustules. 3. Being suffused with watery humors, as the body. 4. The limit of the water in a tank. See சீர்ப்பிடி. தண்ணீர்ச்சாரை, s. A kind of ratsnake living in tanks, as நீர்ச்சாரை. தண்ணீர்ப்பகை, s. Hurtfulness of some kinds of water. (Rare.) தண்ணீர்ப்பாம்பு, s. A water snake, whose bite is not venomous. தண்ணீர்மாற, s. [prov.] To lead water into garden-beds, to trees, &c. (c.) தண்ணீர்வார்க்க, s. To give water to travellers from a water shed. 2. To pour water for a low caste person to drink, who is not allowed to touch the cup. தலைக்குத்தண்ணீர்வார்த்தல். Bathing a girl with appropriate ceremonies, on her becoming marriageable; done by aged matrons, not widows, who are not allowed to be present. தண்ணீரொத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To agree with one's constitution, as water. (c.) தண்ணீரோத--தண்ணீர்மந்திரிக்க, inf. To consecrate, or enchant water to be given to a woman in labor, &c., to dispel the effects of the evil eye, &c. தண்ணீர்விட்டான், appel. n. A kind of plant, a linear leaved shrub, Asparagus racemosus. (Willd.) தண்ணீர்விட்டான்கிழங்கு, s. The root of the above, containing cool water. 50) *

tuṭi (p. 245) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To quiver, shake, throb, flutter, palpitate, flounder as a fish thrown ashore, அசைய. 2. To be rude, mischievous, giddy, roguish, குதிக்க. 3. To be anxious through suspense; to be eager, to be in great agitation, தத்தளிக்க. 4. To shine, glitter, corruscate, lighten, மின்ன. 5. (fig.) To suffer by the gnawings of hunger, பசியினால்வருந்த. (c.) துடித்துப்பதைத்துவந்தான். He came in extreme anxiety, and agitation. பெற்றகுடல்துடிக்கிறது. The mother yearns over her child; (lit.) her bowels yearn. அரணைவால்துடிக்கின்றது. The tail of the lizard (cut off) leaps. பிள்ளைதுடிக்கிறது. The child is fidgety, rude, &c. கண்துடிக்க, inf. To quiver or throb as the eye, supposed to be indicative of good or ill, to the person or his relations.--Note. If the right eye or other right part of a man throb, it is deemed a good sign, but of a woman it is bad and vice versa. மனந்துடிக்க, inf. To be agitated, as the mind, through anxiety, anger, disappointments. துடி, v. noun. Quivering, palpitating, dancing, &c. துடிசாத்திரம்--துடிநூல், s. The art of determining events by the quivering of different parts of the body, also works treating on the art, ஓர்நிமித்தநூல். துடிதுடிக்க, inf. To quiver, throb, flutter, பதைபதைக்க. 2. To be rude, fidgety, mischievous, கடுகடுக்க. (c.) துடித்தல்--துடிப்பு--துடிதுடிப்பு. v. noun. Quivering, throbbing, fluttering, பதைபதைப்பு. 2. Rudeness, mischief, கடு கடுப்பு. 3. Great anxiety. சரீரந்துடித்தல், v. noun. Quivering of the body, supposed to occur of itself in case of the sickness of a relative, also at the sight of one suffering, or through anger. துடியானவன், appel. n. A strong, robust man, பலாஷ்டிகன். 41)

tiṇi (p. 238) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To become solid, compact, firm, stout; to consolidate, திண்மையாயிருக்க. 2. To be crowded, dense, close, நெருங்க; [ex திண்.] திணிவு, v. n. Closeness, நெருக்கம். 2. Compactness, robustness, &c. 34)

taṟ (p. 230) [prop. தத்.] A Sanscrit prefix in Tamil, the த் being changed to ற் before க், ச், ப். தற்காலம், s. The exact precise time of an action or occurrence, the expected time, the given time being, நிகழ்காலம். 3. Coincidence in time, அக்காலம். 4. [astron.] A given time for which calculation is made.--Note. This word is often used synonymously with தற்காலசுத்தபுடம், which see. தற்காலகிரகநிலை, s. Planetary positions at a given time. 2. The horoscope at the moment of birth. (A term used in nativities.) தற்காலசுத்தபுடம், s. The true longitude or position of a planet at a fixed time. தற்காலமத்திமம், s. The mean longitude at a given time. தற்காலவிலை, s. The price at the time. தற்காலவிலைப்படிதருவேன். I will give as the price may be at the time. தற்காலிக்க, inf. [in astron.] To determine longitude, &c., for a given time, to make a reduction in the elements of calculation of the time given or sought. தற்சணம்--தச்சணம்--தட்சணம்--த க்ஷணம், s. The very moment, not a moment intervening, உடனே. 2. The present moment, அந்தக்ஷணம். தற்சம்ம, s. Words from the Sanscrit used in Tamil, or any of the other cognate languages, without change--as கமலம், the letters of which are the same in Sanscrit and Tamil, but சக்தி in Tamil, is சக்தி in Sanscrit. (சது.) தற்சமயம், s. The particular juncture, the exact moment required, அச்சமயம். 2. The best opportunity, a special season or juncture, உற்றசமயம். தற்பதம், s. Deity, கடவுள். (சது.) தற்பரம்--தற்பரன், s. Absolute deity independent of agencies, assumed energies or operations; i. e. deity quiescent or the male principle in the deity, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். தற்பரை, s. The Sakti, or female principle of deity, சத்தி. 2. [in astron.] The thirtieth part of the twinkling of an eye, ஒருமாத்திரையில்முப்பதிலொன்று. தற்பவம், s. tattam (p. 223) s. Gift, present, donation, grant--as land, &c., with due formality, in presence of witnesses human or divine, ஈகை.--Note. The sun is often appealed to as witness, and water is poured, by the bestower of a grant or gift, on betelleaf and gold in the right hand of the receiver. 2. Adoption, சுவிகாரம். (Sans. Datta) (c.) எள்ளுந்தண்ணீரும்விட்டுத்தத்தம்பண்ணிவிட்டேன். I gave the gift with water mixed with sesamum seed; (implying permanence.) தத்தங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give in adoption. தத்தபுத்திரன், s. An adopted son. தத்தம்பண்ண, inf. To make a grant, donations, &c. தத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To give with proper formality. தத்தம்பண்ணிவிட, inf. To devote a piece of land, a cow, &c., to a temple or a brahman. தத்தம்வாங்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To adopt. தாராதத்தம், s. (St.) Giving a girl in marriage by placing betel-leaf, paddy, and gold in her hand, and pouring water on these, the god of fire being invoked as a witness. He is supposed in stand on the top of the flame on the occasion; [ex தாரா, wife.]. மனோதத்தம், s. Purpose formed in the mind to make a grant. 2. A vow to a deity who is called to witness.
