tīṭṭu (p. 242) கிறேன், தீட்டினேன், வேன், தீட்ட, v. a. To whet, hone, sharpen, or rub knives, on a board, கூராக்க. 2. To clean rice, &c., by pounding, அரிசிதீட்ட. 3. (fig.) To beat, strike, அடிக்க. 4. To improve or sharpen the intellects, மனதைத்தீட்ட. 5. (for தீற்று.) To clean the teeth, பல்துலக்க. 6. To write, inscribe, delineate, எழுத. 7. To paint, draw pictures, &c., சித்திரிக்க. 8. To bind, tie, fasten, கட்ட. (திருக்குற்றாலப்புரா ணம். தீட்டத்தீட்டக்கூராகிறது. It becomes sharpened the more it is whetted; (fig.) the mental powers improve by exercise, application and study. தீட்டிப்பார்க்க, inf. To try a knife by a hone. 2. To try one's learning by questions. நாக்குத்தீட்ட, inf. [prov. in cant usage.] To praise one's self. தீட்டல், v. noun. Writing, sharpening, cleansing, &c., as the verb. தீட்டலரிசி--தீட்டரிசி, s. [prov.] Rice sifted and cleansed. (c.) தீட்டு, v. noun. Whetting, honing, கூர் மையாக்குதல். தீட்டுக்கல்--தீட்டுகல், s. A whet-stone, a hone, &c., சாணைக்கல். தீட்டுக்கோல்--தீட்டுகோல், s.
