tmukku (p. 223) s. [vul.] A small drum used in the peninsula for publishing orders, ஓர்பறை. See தண்டோரா. தமுக்குப்போட, inf. To publish orders by beat of drum. தமுக்குப்போடுகிறவன், appel. n. One who beats drum in publishing notices. 116) *

tuvṭṭu (p. 249) கிறேன், துவட்டினேன், வேன், துவட்ட, v. a. To wipe off moisture after bathing, &c., துடைக்க. 2. To boil or stew with little water so as to make the food thick, கறிதுவட்ட. 3. To boil meat, நெருப்பிற் புலர்த்த. 4. To cause to adhere, தோயச்செய்ய; [ex துவள், v.] (c.) துவட்டிக்கொண்டுசாப்பிட்டுவிடலாம். tṇi (p. 222) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், தணிய, v. n. To be allayed, mitigated, alleviated, softened, appeased, calmed, pacified, soothed, ஆற. 2. To abate, grow less, be reduced, குறைய. 3. To grow thick, to be fat, பருக்க. 4. To be extinguished, அணைய. 5. To become cool, as the sun, &c., குளிர. 6. To yield, to submit one's self, தாழ. (c.) 7. To become slack, இளக. 8. [prov.] To be adapted, as the angle of a hoe to the haft, or a coulter to the plough, இசைய. அவன்உனக்குத்தணிந்தவன். He is lower in stature than you. ஒருசொல்லுக்குந்தணிந்துகொடுக்கிறதில்லை. He does not submit to reproof. வீடுவெந்துதணிந்துபோயிற்று. The fire, in the burning house is subdued. தணிந்தவன், appel. n. A humble, sedate person. 2. One born in a medium rank. 3. One whose bodily health is restored after sickness. தணிந்திருக்க, inf. To be extinguished, as a fire; to be soothed as an exasperated mind, to be subdued as a mob, to be moderated as a fever; to be lower, &c., in height. பிள்ளையிப்பொழுதுதணிந்திருக்கிறது. The child is now well. தணிந்தவிலை, s. A low price, a reduced price. தணிந்தவேளை, s. The cooler time, as evening. தணிய, inf. (adverbially.) Humbly, submiss'vely, calmly, &c. தணிவு, v. noun. Abatement, mollification, mitigation, alleviation, diminution, தணிப்பு. 2. Calmness, submission, mildness, coolness, softness, சாந்தம், 3. Inferior in quality or performance, குறைவு. 4. Lowness as to height, கீழ்மை. அவனுக்கிவன்வேலையிலேதணிவு. This one is inferior to the other in work. [prov.] தணிவாயிருக்க, inf. To be humble, to be quiet, to be lower in stature. தணிவானபுடவை, s. Inferior cloth. தணிவானபேச்சு, s. Conciliatory language, blandishment. தணிமை, s. Abatement, alleviation, &c. தணியாதகோபம், s. Unextinguishable hatred. 46)
