tayai (p. 225) s. Favor, kindness, clemency, tenderness, mercy, compassion, கிருபை. (c.) See தயா. தயைசெய்ய, inf. To show favor, to do one a kindness, to oblige one. 2. tīṭcai (p. 242) --தீக்ஷை--தீக்கை, s. Initiation of disciple into the Siva religion by a Guru, who with appropriate ceremonies communicates the appointed mantras; also his introduction to any higher stage or degree in the system; குரூபதேசம். 2. Special means employed by a Guru for the instruction and mental illumination of a disciple; intended for the removal of his sins, and the ripening of his soul for emancipation, ஞானபோதனை. 3. The imparting of spiritual illumination to a soul ripening for absorption; its accumulated stock of merit and demerit--the results of former actions--together with its original மலம்--the source of these actions--being nearly exhausted by the joys and sufferings experienced in its former transmigrations, பக்குவான்மாவைக்க ரையேற்றல். 4. Performance of a course of austerities, விரதநியமம். 5. Performance of vows, சங்கற்பம். W. p. 41. DEEKSHA. --Note. There are seven kinds of தீட்சை. 1. சட்சுதீட்சை, சயனதீட்சை, by the eye or by looking on the disciple for the dispersion of his mental darkness and moral evils, and the communication of spiritual light. 2. பரிசதீட்சை, by the touch, or placing the right hand on the disciple's head, and touching five principle parts of his body, thus conferring on him the virtue of the five lettered incantations. 3. வாக்குத்தீட்சை, வாசகதீட்சை, oral instruction, and illumination. 4. மானசதீட்சை, by the mind or intense interest felt for the disciple, leading to the enlightening of his mind, &c. 5. சாத்திரதீட்சை, நூற்றீட்சை, spiritual illumination by means of the shastras. 6. யோகதீட்சை, பாவனதீட்சை, instruction by example, in character of the silent, motionless ascetic, in the eight postures prescribed. (See யோகம்.) 7. அ வுத்திரிதீட்சை, imparting instruction by symbolic figures, made on the ground, &c. This last is two-fold, ஞானாவுத்திரி, and கிரியாவுத்திரி.--Note. There are two other kinds of தீட்சை; 1. சபீசதீட்சை, instruction that has reference to future rites to make them complete; 2. நிர்ப்பீசதீட்சை, instruction complete in itself. சிவதீட்சை--சைவதீட்சை, 3 The three stated introductory rites of the Saiva system. 1. சமயதீட்சை, the initiatory rite of discipleship. 2. விசேஷதீட்சை, special rite confirming the disciple, after which he eats in private, or unseen by those of lower degree, and his eligible to read, and receive instruction in the Agama mysteries. It is administered only to சைவர், who eat no flesh or fish. 3. நிருவா ணதீட்சை, the highest rite entitling the disciple to perform puja, to sit and eat with his Guru, and to enjoy all the privileges of the system. தீட்சதர், s. (plu.) Persons who have received the initiatory, or any succeeding rite of the Saiva religion, தீட்சைபெற் றோர். 2. The brahmans of சிதம்பரம், formerly said to have been three-thousand, தில்லைமூவாயிரவர். தீட்சதன், s. A disciple who has received the தீட்சை. தீட்சைகேட்க--தீட்சைபெற, inf. To receive தீட்சை of the guru. தீட்சைகொடுக்க--தீட்சைபண்ண--தீட் சைவைக்க, inf. To administer தீட்சை. தீட்சைபெற்றவன், appel. n. (neg. தீட் சையில்லாதவன்.) One who has received தீட்சை, to whom the secrets of religion may be communicated. 16)

tkrm (p. 219) s. Tin, இரும்பின்மேற்பூசும் ஒரு லோகம். (c.) 2. Load, ஈயம். 3. A kind of fragrant drug, ஓர்வாசனைப்பண்டம். 4. A fragrant unguent for the hair, மயிர்ச்சாந்து. 5. A fragrant tree, தகரமரம். 6. (p.) The letter த. தகரடப்பி, s. Any small box of tin used for preserving unguents, &c. தகரப்போகணி, s. A tin cup used for drinking. தகரம்பூச, inf. To coat with tin. தகரப்பொடி, s. A pulverized powder of the production of the தகரம் tree used as a perfume. 12)

tāvu (p. 235) கிறேன், தாவினேன், வேன், தாவ, v. n. To spring at or upon, to jump up as if catcvhing at an object over head, எட் டிப்பிடிக்க. 2. To spread, to pervade, பரவ. 3. To perish of decay, அழிய. 4. v. a. To jump or leap over, தாண்ட. 5. To reach to or after, to extend the arms, as a child, நீட்ட. 6. To attack, to prey upon--as disease, to rush in upon one, பிடிக் க. 7. To tend, or move toward, சாய. (c.) குழந்தைதாவிக்கொண்டுதிரிகிறது. The child toddles about with uplifted hands. என்மேலேதாவிவருகிறான். He rushes upon me. கறையான்சுவரிலேதாவிவிட்டது. The white ants are getting up the wall. மனிதனைத்தாவ, inf. To attack one--as a person, a wild beast or a demon; to take firm hold of, as disease. தாவிப்பாய, inf. To spring on, to leap up, or forward. தாவிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To spring up and catch hold of. தாவிப்பேச, inf. To speak in a slight, incoherent manner. தாவிவிழ, inf. To extend the arms, as a child. (c.) தாவுதல், v. noun. Jumping, skipping, spreading, &c., as the verb. குளிர்தாவுதல், v. noun. The catching of fire. சூடுதாவுதல், v. noun. Being affected by heat. See சூடு. தீத்தாவுதல், v. noun. The catching of fire. 8)

tumpai (p. 247) s. A flowering shrub of several species, ஓர்பூடு. 2. A creeper with edible fruit, called also கறித்தும்பை. (c.) 3. One of the eight kinds of garlands worn by warriors in battle, போர்செய்வோர் அணியும் மாலை. 4. [prov.] A fish of two species, one large, the other small, ஓர்மீன். 5. (சது.) Assemblage, assembly, crowd, கூட் டம். 6. Betel-leaf, வெற்றிலை. 7. War, fighting, போர்செய்தல்.--The species of the flowering தும்பை are; கவிழ்தும்பை, Borago Ind. L; கழுதைத்தும்பை, Borago Zeylan, L; காசித்தும்பை, பேய்த்தும்பை, Phlomis Zeylanica. L. Of the running தும்பை, there are two species, கறித்தும்பை or காய்த்தும்பை. a fruit bearing தும்பை and பூத்தும்பை, a flowering creeper. தும்பைப்பூப்போலேசாதம். Rice as white and fine as தும்பை flowers. தும்பைக்காய், s. The edible fruit of the தும்பை. தும்பைக்கொடி, s. The தும்பை creeper. தும்பைப்பாரை, s. The large தும்பை fish. தும்பைமாலைசூட, inf. To wear the தும் பை garland. 2. A panegyric on one who being crowded with a wreath of தும்பை, fought the enemy. See பிரபந்தம். தும்பைமீன், s. The தும்பை fish. 57)
