Termination of interrogatives, impersonal pronouns, and appellatives, in the singular, வினாமுதலிய வற்றோடிணைந்த அஃறிணை ஒருமை விகுதி, as எது, which thing, இது, this thing, கரியது, that which is black. 2. Termination of the verb, in the first person singular, தன்மை ஒருமை வினை விகுதி, as யான் வருது, I will come. 3. A termination of verbs in the neuter, gender, third person, singular number, அஃறிணையொருமைப் படர்க் கை வினைவிகுதி, as மாடுவந்தது, the cow came. 14)

tẕuvu (p. 229) s. Embracing, clasping, ஆலிங் கனம். 2. An armful, கொடுங்கையளவு. (c.) அவன்தழுவுக்குப்பிடிபடவில்லை. He shook him off. ஒருதழுவுவைக்கோல். An armful of straw. தழுவுக்கடங்காதபருமன். What cannot be clasped by the two arms--as a tree, &c. தழுவுதொடர்--தழுஉத்தொடர், s. [in gram.] Combination of such words as give a proper meaning, in their connection; the oppos. of தழாத்தொடர். 21)

tñcm (p. 221) s. Staff, prop, பற்றுக்கோடு. 2. Aid, help, assistance, succor, துணை. 3. Greatness, dignity, பெருமை. 4. Poverty, meanness, எளிமை. 5. Lowness, depth, தா ழ்வு. (சது.) 6. (c.) Resource, refuge, shelter, support, stay, dependence, reliance, trust, அடைக்கலம். கஞ்சிதான்தஞ்சம். Rice gruel is a support. சுவாமிநீயேதஞ்சம். O Lord! thou art my refuge. தஞ்சமென்றுவந்தவனைவஞ்சிக்கலாகாது. One who seeks protection must not be deceived. தஞ்சக்கேடு, v. noun. [prov.] Debility, weakness. 2. Destitution, helplessness. தஞ்சமில்லாதவன், appel. n. A destitute person. 55)

tvi (p. 228) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be distressed for want of water, food, &c., to sigh, pant or languish for, தாபம டைய. 2. To be in great anxiety for, to feel concerned about, உபத்திரவப்பட. 3. To be in distress, jeopardy, danger, வரந்த; [exதவனம்.] (c.) கன்றைத்தேடிப்பசுதவிக்கிறது. The cow is in distress seeking its calf. தவித்துக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To walk about in a melancholy way. தவிப்பு, v. noun. Anxiety, distress for a thing, great longing for, sighing for, languishing for, வருத்தம். தவிப்புத்தீர்க்க, inf. To satisfy one's hunger, thirst, &c. 11)

tāṭṭāntam (p. 233) s. [in log.] A proposition, or doctrine, to be proved, ascertained, determined (a correllative of திருட்டாந் தம்); திருஷ்டாந்தத்தைக்கொண்டது. 3)

tīṭcai (p. 242) --தீக்ஷை--தீக்கை, s. Initiation of disciple into the Siva religion by a Guru, who with appropriate ceremonies communicates the appointed mantras; also his introduction to any higher stage or degree in the system; குரூபதேசம். 2. Special means employed by a Guru for the instruction and mental illumination of a disciple; intended for the removal of his sins, and the ripening of his soul for emancipation, ஞானபோதனை. 3. The imparting of spiritual illumination to a soul ripening for absorption; its accumulated stock of merit and demerit--the results of former actions--together with its original மலம்--the source of these actions--being nearly exhausted by the joys and sufferings experienced in its former transmigrations, பக்குவான்மாவைக்க ரையேற்றல். 4. Performance of a course of austerities, விரதநியமம். 5. Performance of vows, சங்கற்பம். W. p. 41. DEEKSHA. --Note. There are seven kinds of தீட்சை. 1. சட்சுதீட்சை, சயனதீட்சை, by the eye or by looking on the disciple for the dispersion of his mental darkness and moral evils, and the communication of spiritual light. 2. பரிசதீட்சை, by the touch, or placing the right hand on the disciple's head, and touching five principle parts of his body, thus conferring on him the virtue of the five lettered incantations. 3. வாக்குத்தீட்சை, வாசகதீட்சை, oral instruction, and illumination. 4. மானசதீட்சை, by the mind or intense interest felt for the disciple, leading to the enlightening of his mind, &c. 5. சாத்திரதீட்சை, நூற்றீட்சை, spiritual illumination by means of the shastras. 6. யோகதீட்சை, பாவனதீட்சை, instruction by example, in character of the silent, motionless ascetic, in the eight postures prescribed. (See யோகம்.) 7. அ வுத்திரிதீட்சை, imparting instruction by symbolic figures, made on the ground, &c. This last is two-fold, ஞானாவுத்திரி, and கிரியாவுத்திரி.--Note. There are two other kinds of தீட்சை; 1. சபீசதீட்சை, instruction that has reference to future rites to make them complete; 2. நிர்ப்பீசதீட்சை, instruction complete in itself. சிவதீட்சை--சைவதீட்சை, 3 The three stated introductory rites of the Saiva system. 1. சமயதீட்சை, the initiatory rite of discipleship. 2. விசேஷதீட்சை, special rite confirming the disciple, after which he eats in private, or unseen by those of lower degree, and his eligible to read, and receive instruction in the Agama mysteries. It is administered only to சைவர், who eat no flesh or fish. 3. நிருவா ணதீட்சை, the highest rite entitling the disciple to perform puja, to sit and eat with his Guru, and to enjoy all the privileges of the system. தீட்சதர், s. (plu.) Persons who have received the initiatory, or any succeeding rite of the Saiva religion, தீட்சைபெற் றோர். 2. The brahmans of சிதம்பரம், formerly said to have been three-thousand, தில்லைமூவாயிரவர். தீட்சதன், s. A disciple who has received the தீட்சை. தீட்சைகேட்க--தீட்சைபெற, inf. To receive தீட்சை of the guru. தீட்சைகொடுக்க--தீட்சைபண்ண--தீட் சைவைக்க, inf. To administer தீட்சை. தீட்சைபெற்றவன், appel. n. (neg. தீட் சையில்லாதவன்.) One who has received தீட்சை, to whom the secrets of religion may be communicated. 16)

Defect, fault, natural or moral, குற்றம்.-Note. துக்கத்திரயம், three species of sorrow are mentioned, for which see தாபத்திரயம். துக்கஉடுப்பு, s. A morning dress. துக்ககன், s. One who is sad, one who is of a melancholy temper. (R.) துக்கக்காரன், s. A mourner. துக்கக்கோலம், s. A morning state. துக்கங்கொண்டாட--துக்கங்காக்க, inf. To mourn, express sorrow by exterior marks, to lament. துக்கசாகரம், s. A sea of grief. துக்கசாகரத்தில்முழுகினான். He is overwhelmed with grief. துக்கநிவாரணம்--துக்கநிவிர்த்தி, s. Comfort, removal of affliction. துக்கமாயிருக்க, inf. To be sorrowful. துக்கமுகம், s. A sorrowful, dejected, down-east countenance. துக்கராகம், s. A mournful tune. துக்கவீடு, s. A house of morning, a funeral house. 2)

tṟi (p. 230) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், தறிக்க, v. a. To lop, chop off, to cut off with force, சேதிக்க. 2. To cut with a heavy blow, வெட்ட. 3. To cut down with heavy and repeated blows, வெட்டிச்சரிக்க. 4. To hew; to cut fire-wood, துண்டிக்க. 5. To clip, or chop off, கத்தரிக்க. 6. [prov.] To shake and separate by a fan, தானியம்புடைக்க. 7. (fig.) To frustrate a matter, காரியபங்கப்ப டுத்த.--Note. The meanings all imply cutting across the grain. தறியாணி, s. A small chisel for cutting iron. Compare வெட்டிரும்பு. தறிக்கை, தறிப்பு, v. noun. Cutting down, sundering, hewing. 3)

tuṉṉm (p. 251) s. A seam, sewing, stitch, தையல்; [ex துன்னு, v.] (p.) துன்னர், s. Tailors, stitchers, தையற் காரர். 2. Shoemakers, leather-sewers, makers of leathern sandals, leatherdressers of two castes, செம்மார் and சக்கிலி யர். (சது.) 43)

tuḷḷu (p. 251) s. A leap, jump, spring, frisk, commonly without progress, குதிப்பு. (c.) துள்ளடங்க, inf. [in burlesque.] To be reduced, as arrogance, &c. துள்ளாட்டம், v. noun. Sprightfulness, arrogance, haughtiness, assumption, overbearing airs. துள்ளாட்டம்பண்ண, inf. To be arrogant, overbearing, unruly, refractory. துள்ளுக்காளை, s. An ungovernable person; (lit.) untamed bullock. துள்ளுப்பூச்சி, s. A kind of leaping insect destructive to grain. 11)
