pāl (p. 313) s. Milk, பசுவின் பால்முதலியன. 2. Milky juice in plants, trees and fruits--as the eocoa-nut, மரமுதலியவற்றின்பால். 3. Lymph, matter, fluid in pustules, &c., அம்மைப்பால். 4. (சது.) Whiteness, வெண்மை. [a contraction of Sa. Palana, milk of a cow recently calved.]--Note. In combination the final ல் is changed by rule to ற், sometimes to ன், பாலுக்குங்காவல்பூனைக்குந்தோழன். A guard to the milk, but a friend to the cat. பாலும்வெள்ளைமோரும்வெள்ளை. Milk is white, whey is white--spoken of persons or things apparently similar, but really very different. பால்வார்த்துமுழுகுவான். He will bathe, putting milk on his head (in token of his joy at your death, &c.). பாலடை, s. A shell for a milk-ladle, பாலடைச்சங்கு. [loc.] 2. A shrub, பால டைச்செடி, Hallia sororia. பாலடைய, inf. As பால்கொள்ள. பாலவரை, s. A whitish species of pulse. See அவரை. பாலாடை--பாலேடு, s. Cream of milk. பாலாறு, s. The river Palar. பாலிறங்குதல்--பால்வடிதல், v. noun. Pustule becoming dry. 2. The flowing down of milk. பாலுண்ணி, s. A kind of wart. See உண்ணி. பாலுமறுகுந்தப்பித்தோய, inf. [prov.] To bathe after putting milk and sacrificial grass on the head--as a bride and bridegroom before marriage, before marriage, to obtain progeny. பாலும்பழமும்கொடுக்க, inf. To give milk and plantains as done by a bride and bridegroom to each other, after the marriage ceremony. (c.) பாலுறட்டி, s. [prov.] A kind of pastry, made with cocoa-nut milk. பாலூட்டி, inf. To suckle a child. பாலொலிக்க, inf. [prov.] To keep back milk as a cow for its calf. பால்கட்ட--பால்வைக்க, inf. To innoculate, to vaccinate. பால்குடிக்க, inf. To suck milk as a babe. 2. To take milk. பால்குடிக்கிறகுழந்தை. A child at the breast. பால்குடிமறந்தபிள்ளை, A wanted child. பாலனும்பால்குடியான் Even the suckling ceases to suck--a phrase expressive of fear from oppression. பால்கொள்ள, inf. To form a milky consistence, as in young kernels, or pustules. பால்சுரக்குதல், v. noun. The forming of milk in the breast or udder. பால்சொரிதல், v. noun. Flowing out of milk. Blue veins as they appear in a young mother who is suckling a child. பால்பாய்தல், v. noun. [prov.] Exuding of milky juice from a tapped or wounded tree. பால்பிடிக்க, inf. As பால்கொள்ள. பால்பிடிபதம், s. The stage of grain when they newly formed kernels are of a milky consistency. பால்பிழிய, inf. To press out cocoa-nut milk. பால்பெயர்தல், inf. The forming of milk in the breast or udder. பால்பொழிய, inf. To give milk freely, as cows, &c. 2. (fig.) To be prosperous. பால்மடி, s. An udder teeming with milk. பால்மணம், s. Smell of milk. 2. Smell of rice gruel at a proper stage for taking it from the fire. 3. Milky smell of a sucking child's breath. பால்மரம், s. Any tree with a milky sap. பால்மறக்க, inf. A milk-man. பாற்காரி, s. A woman who sells milk. 2. A wet nurse. பாற்காவடி, s. Milk, carried with ceremony under a canopy to be presented to an idol. This is commonly done at the Palney festivals.
