aṟu (p. 33) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், அற, v. n. To be parted, detached, separated; to break as a rope, அறுபட. 2. To cease, become extinct, perish, end, vanish, அழிய. 3. To be decided, ended, தீர. (c.) அற, inf. [used adverbially.] With a verb it expresses; 1. Wholly, entirely, quite, முழுதும். 2. Intensely, excessively, மிகவும். 3. Negation, being without, as குற்றமற, without fault. அறச்செட்டுமுழுநஷ்டம். Selling things too dearly will cause entire loss; i. e. avarice causes loss. அறப்படித்தான். He has learnt all perfectly. எழுத்தறவாசி. Read with distinct articulation. அறக்கட்ட, inf. To tie tightly, இறுகக்கட்ட. 2. To monopolize, ஒருமிக்கக் கொள்ள. அறக்காய, inf. To be over-dried, over-boiled, over-heated. அறக்கூட்ட, inf. To sweep clean or thoroughly. அறக்கூர்மை, s. Excessive sharpness as of a writing style. அறச்சிவப்பு, s. Deep red, extremely red. அறச்சிறியது, appel. n. The smallest. அறப்பாடல், v. noun. [commonly, அறம்பாடல்.] Composing poetry containing imprecations or spells.--Note. Verses of this kind are supposed sometimes to be made without design, and thus to injure the maker and others. அறப்பார்க்க, inf. To examine thoroughly, sift. 2. To take measures to defeat, ruin or injure one by defamation. அறமிகுந்தால், v. part. At most, at the utmost, by any means, with the greatest effort. அறமிகுந்துவந்தாலும்வரட்டும். If it must come (if no effort will avert it) let it come. அறவிளக்க, inf. To polish thoroughly. அறவூத--அறவைக்க, inf. To refine metals by fire, புடமிட. அறாவிலை, s. An exorbitant price. அறுகுறை, s. A headless body, கவந்தம். அறுந்தருணம், s. Emergency, exigency. அறுந்தொகை, s. A sum, number, &c. in dividing, in which there is no remainder. அறுவாய், s. The parting made in sawing a piece of timber. 2. The opening of a cut or wound. 3. A junction, a conjunction of two periods of time, extremity, end. 4. Deficiency, what is wanted to complete a whole; [ex அறு, parted, et வாய், opening.] அறுவாய்நிறைந்தவயிர்மதி. The bright moon whose waning is restored. அற்றறுதி, s. A complete end, entire ruin. அற்றறுதிபற்றறுதியாய்விட்டது. All communion is withdrawn. அற்றான், s. A poor man, தரித் திரன், 2. A sage, முனிவன். அற்றுப்போக, inf. To be lost, to cease to be. தடையற, inf. [used adverbially.] Without impediment. அறவு, v. noun. Cessation, ceasing, extinction. 2. Parting, separation, breach. அறவுளி, s. Incantations performed over a sick person in order to restore him. 2. Cessation, end, முடிவு. அறுதல், v. noun. Finishing, liquidating a debt. 2. s. A broken thread, string, rope, bandage, &c. அறுந்திருப்பது. 3. A mean, despicable or faulty person, உதவாதவன் அந்த அறுதலையிங்கேவரவிடலாகாது, You must not allow that vagabond to be here. தாம்புமறுதல் தோண்டியும்பொத்தல். A broken rope and a leaky water-pot. அறுதலி, s. A widow, கைம்பெ ண்; [ex அறுதல், being plucked off (the marriage jewel), et இ, fem. termination; or அறு, torn off, et தலி, contracted from தாலி, the badge of marriage.] அறுதலிமகனுக்கங்கமெல்லாஞ்சேஷ்டை. The son of a widow is mischievous throughout his whole frame. அறுதி, v. noun. End, close, termination, முடிவு. 2. Decision, decisiveness, determination--as a decisive sale, entire renunciation of a title to landed property, தீர்ப்பு. 3. s. The purchaser's possession or title to property purchased, விற்கிரயச்சீட்டு. 4. Absence, non-existence, இல்லாமை. 5. Death, சாவு. அறுதியாய்ப்போயிற்று. It is settled, completed, ended. அறுதியிட்டுச்சொன்னான். He spoke decisively. நமக்குக்கிடைத்தது நமக்கறுதி. Thus much is realized and we shall not have to part with it. அந்தப்பழக்கத்தையறுதியாய்விட்டுவிட்டேன். I have relinquished that custom entirely. அறுதிக்கரை, s. The proper and just division or distribution of land. அறுதிச்சாதனம்--அறுதியுறுதி, s. A deed of transfer, அறுதிச்சீட்டு. அறுதிச்சொல், s. A decisive word or sentence. அறுதிப்பங்கு, s. What is given in full of all demands, a final allotment. அறுதிப்பாடு, s. Being accomplished, finished, decided. அறுதியிட, inf. To determine, to point a day, &c. 55)

iṉmai (p. 57) s. Destitution, absence of a quality or thing, non-existence, extinction, absolute negation, nothingness, இல்லாமை. 2. Poverty, adversity, வறுமை; [ex இல், not.] உட்களவின்மையினால். Because it is free from guile. (வைராக்கியசதகம்-v. 13.) 57)

iṉṟi (p. 57) . Gerund of the symbolic verb இல், ஓர்குறிப்புவினையெச்சம். ஒப்பின்றியநெஞ்சமே. O! matchless mind. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay, expeditiously. தவறின்றிநடக்கிறதரிது. It is difficult to maintain a faultless conduct. இன்றியமையாமை, neg. v. noun. Indispensableness, absoluteness, necessity, a sine-qua-non, இல்லாமல்முடியாமை. 58)

il (p. 55) . Not, non-existence, death, மரணம். (p.) 2. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். [in rhetoric.] Comparison with a thing that does not exist, உவமையணியி லொன்று--as எல்லாக்கமலத்தொழிலுந்திரண்டொ ன்றின் வில்லேர்புருவத்துவேனெடுங்கணல்லாண் முகம்போலும், the beauty of the face of the damsel whose eyes resemble a lance, and brow, a bow, is equal to the aggregate beauty of all lotuses. இல்லாதபொய், s. Downright lie, முழுப்பொய். இல்லாதவன், neg. appel. noun. One utterly destitute. இல்லாததும்பொல்லாதுஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To tell lies and speak evil of one. இல்லாமல், ver. part. Without. இல்லாமற்போனால், If not, otherwise. இல்லாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without, be wanting, be absent. இல்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Absence, destitution, privation, இன்மை. 2. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. Without labor, or difficulty. பாவமின்றிநடக்கிறது அரிது. It is difficult to live without sinning. 23)

Earth, பூமி--This word is commonly used நட்டு in combination--as நட்டாறு, the midst of the river, நட்டுச்சி, exactly the meridian. நடக்கடல், s. The mid-sea. நடுக்கடல்போனாலும்மறுப்படாமல்வரக்கடவீர்..... Even though you go into the midst of the sea, may you return without harm. நடுக்கட்ட, inf. [prov.] [com. பொதுக் கட்ட.] To sequester property. நடுக்கட்டு, s. A girdle. See under கட்டு. நடுக்கண்டம், s. The central portion of a continent. 2. The middle piece. நடுக்காரர், s. [prov.] Arbitrators, judges, umpires. நடுக்கிளி, s. The head player in a square. See under கிளி. நடுக்குடி, s. A house-hold in the midst of others, as being safer than if alone. 2. A family of midding circumstances, rank, &c. 3. [prov.] The head-family of a tribe or class. நடுக்கேட்க, inf. To hear a case in law. 2. To refer a case for decision. நடுக்கொண்டவீடு, s. [prov.] The middle house. (c.) நடுக்கொள்ளைக்காரன், s. One who plunders without regard to either party. நடுச்சாமம், s. Midnight, the middle watch from 12 o'clock till 3. நடுச்சுவர், s. One of the positions in the mystic worship of the Saiva system. நடுநிலைஞாயம், s. The mysticism of the நடுநிலை worship. நடுநிலைமந்திரம், s. An incantation in the Saiva worship, the letters of which are mystic symbols of the forms of deity, or of the idol worshipped. The words are ஆம், ஊம், ஓம், சிவாயநம, in which ஆம், is அடி, basis; ஊம், is நடு, middle; ஓம், is முடி, top; சி, is சிவம், formless deity; வா, is சத்தி, the female principle, obscuration. நடுநிலைமை, s. Mediocrity, middle circumstances in life. நடுநிற்றல், v. noun. Becoming bail or security for one. (not the law term.) 2. Being upright, impartial. நடுநீதி, s. [prov.] The midst of the work, operation, affair, &c., (lit.) the midst of the battle, இடைநடு. நடுமதியம்--நடுமத்தியானம், s. Noon, mid-day. நடுமையம், s. Middle, centre. 2. Zenith, meridian. நடுராசி, s. Middling in quality, size, &c., moderate, நடுத்தரம். நடுவதுபாதி, s. That which is in the midst, intermediate. நடுவதுபாதியிலேவந்தான். He came after the beginning of an affair when half of it was over; he came last. நடுவத்தசாமம்--நடுவத்தொருசாமம், s. [prov.] Midnight. நடுவயது, s. Middle age. நடுவறுத்தல், v. noun. Judging, as an umpire, deciding, discerning, perceiving, comprehending, ascertaining, discussing a controversy. நடுவறுத்தான், appel. n. The name of a plant, மூக்குரட்டைக்கொடி, Boerhavia diffusa, L. நடுவழி--நடுப்பாதை, s. Mid-way. நடுவன், s. Yama, the god of death, awarder of rewards and punishments, இயமன். (p.) 2. The middle or interior of the house where the idol is kept. 2. An obscene expression, used in the south. நடுவீடுபெருவழியாயிற்று.
