Excessive trouble or labour; compulsory service, அநியாயதண்டம். தலையைக்கொடுக்க--தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To step forward in one's behalf, in a case of exigency. 2. To expose one's self to danger for another. தலையைச்சுற்றியெறிய, inf. To detest utterly; to reject with disgust, disdain and scorn. தலையைநடுக்க, inf. The plant செருப்படை. தலைவிரிச்சான்கூட்டம், s. A nickname given to the female sex, ஸ்திரீசனம். தலைவிரிச்சான் கூட்டந் தடியெடுத்தாலோட்டம். An effeminate mob is routed with a staff. தலைவிலை, s. The first or harvest price of grain, when it is plentiful, &c. தலைவிழுவான், appel. n. He (his head) will lie low--an expression of ill will. தலைவெட்ட, inf. To strike off the measure. 2. To behead, to decapitate. 3. (fig.) To do a treacherous act. தலைவெட்டுகிறவன். A villain. தலைவெட்டுங்காரியமோ. Is it a capital crime? தலைவெட்டு, v. noun. The first cutting. தலைவைக்க, inf. To part, burst, asunder--as a knot, a rope, a fiddle string; to fly apart, burst in pieces, fly off or be struck off, as pieces or sparks, அற. (c.) 6. [prov.] To be broken off, as friendiship; become disunited, வேறுபட. 7. (fig.) To fail, to result unsuccessfully. தவற. முகத்திலிரத்தந்தெறிக்கப்பேசினான். He spoke in anger, the blood flying to his face. பருத்தெறிக்கிறது. The boil throbs; (lit.) jumps. நாக்குத்தெறிக்கப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks wickedly enough to make his tongue burst asunder. பிணிதெறித்துப்போயிற்று. The disease is remedied. பொறிதெறிக்கிறது. Sparks fly out. கண்தெறித்தது. The eye is suddenly blinded; (lit.) broken by lightning &c. தெறிபட்டுப்போயிற்று. It has failed, come to naught. தெறிப்பான். He will burst asunder; a curse. தெறிக்கடிக்க, inf. [prop. தெறிக்கஅடி க்க.] To scatter, disperse, as an army; to beat or hammer so as to cause bursting, or to make a part fly off, to confound, to puzzle in controversy. தெறிக்கப்பேச, inf. To speak so as to offend, to break up friendship. தெறித்தவன், appel. n. A man of cruel conduct; used in cursing. தெறித்துவிழ, s. To strike on some thing in falling. 2. To burst to pieces; spoken of one who so acts as to reader himself liable to a curse. தெறிபதம், s. Spirtling of medicinal oil when boiling. தெறி, v. noun. Spattering, splash, spirt, சிதறுகை. தெறிப்பு, v. noun. Rebound, recoil, flying back, resilence, உதைந்துமீள்கை. 2. Spirit, spatter, splash, dash, சிந்துகை. 3. Parting, bursting asunder, flying apart; snapping off, breaking, as a limb, முறிகை, 4. Shooting with the fingers, snapping. &c., சுண்டுகை. 5. teṟi (p. 257) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [prov.] To flirt off, shoot a particle with the finger and thumb, to bespatter, உந்த. 2. To snap a bow-string, or fiddle-string, with the finger and thumb to try its lightness, to strike the springs of a lute with the fingers, வீணைநரம்புதெறிக்க. 3. toṭu (p. 262) கிறேன், தொட்டேன், வேன், தொட, v. a. To touch, to come in contact with, to feel, to perceive by thr touch, பரிசிக்க. 2. To handle, to take hold of, to finger, to use, பிடிக்க. 3. To be connected or united, to be joined, &c., பொருத்த. 4. To begin, தொடங்க. (c.) 5. To discharge an arrow or other missile weapon. அம்பெய்ய. 6. To eat, உண்ண. 7. To dig, to scoop out, to excavate, தோண்ட. 8. To put on shoes or a garment, தரிக்க. தொட்டாற்றோழன்விட்டால்மாற்றான். A friend if persevered, in and a if neglected; spoken of an art. தொடப்படாது. I cannot give you; (lit.) Cannot touch. தொட்டுக்கண்ணிலேயொற்றிக்கொள்ள......To touch the feet of an idol or great person and then apply the fingers, to the eyes; as if saying, 'I worship your feet.' 2. [in contempet.] To be too obsequious, or aubmissive. ஆகாசத்தைத் தொட்டுக்கொண்டுநிற்கிறது. The top if trees, &c., touches the sky. தோஷந்தொட்டுநிற்கிறது. Fatal symptoms have appeared (as in cholera, &c., before death). நிலந்தொட்டுவைத்தார்கள். They rubbed the sand in which they had written (on their forehead, eyes, and breast) --Note. A celebrated Jvalamukhi exists in Lahore, to which pilgrimages are made. The soil abounds with carburetted hydrogen, which takes fire on coming in con tact with the external air, especially if a light be applied. Vents are made; and a light being brought near the orifice, a flame is kindled, which is fed by the escaping stream of gas.
