As a nominal affix or postposition, it governs the dative and expresses in, within, among, of, out of, inner, interior, intrinsic, esoteric, ஏழ னுருபு. உள்ளிருந்தார்க்குத்தெரியுமுள்வருத்தம். Those of the household only are acquainted with its secret sorrows. உட்கரணம், s. The intellectual faculties. See இந்திரியம் and கரணம். உட்கருத்து, s. The inmost thought, the real purpose or motive, அகக்கருத்து. 2. Cordial affection, உட்பட்சம். 3. The intrinsic meaning of a passage, &c., கருத்துரை. உட்கருத்தாகப்பேச, inf. The Deity regarded as the life, or identified with the life or soul of each individual, உள்ளுயிர். உட்குறிப்பு, s. Aim, object, intention, உள்ளக்குறிப்பு. உட்குற்றம், s. Innate depravity. See உட்பகை. உட்கூதல், s. Internal cold, chill, slight fever. உட்கை, s. Palm of the hand, உள்ளங்கை. 2. A person who is privy to, a secret hand--as in உள்ளுளவு. 3. Turning to the left in dancing or other movements, இடக்கைச்சுற்று. உட்கைச்சுற்று, s. Turning to the left, winding or turning back wards, or contrary to the sun. உட்கொள்ள, inf. To eat as a god, or great personage, உண்ண. 2. To take food that has been consecrated to a deity, தேவப்பிரசாதமுட்கொள்ள. 3. To take food, medicine, to swallow, take in, imbibeas the earth does the rain, &c., விழுங்க. 4. To receive into the mind, meditate, or reflect upon, மனதிற்கொள்ள. 5. To wish for an occurrence, or to express desires mentally--as a deity or holy sage (the thing desired instantly talking place), திருவுளங்கொள்ள. 6. To have a secret object in view, to have in view, உட்கருத. உட்கோபம், s. Interior anger, malice. உட்கோள், s. The will, determination, internal, or inmost thought, உட்கருத்து. 2. Wish of the heart. 3. Opinion, belief, tenet, கோட்பாடு. உட்சங்கம், s. A select society, a committee, அகச்சங்கம். உட்சட்டை, s. An inner vest or tunic. உட்சமயம், s. The six religious systems of the followers of Siva, அகச் சமயம். உட்சாடை, s. The real object of an affair, the real feeling of the heart, உட்கருத்து. 2. Exposure of secrets by one of a party by signs, இரகசியங்களைச்ச மிக்கையாலறிவிக்கை. 3. The meaning, thing, &c., told or known to one's own party and differing from that which is made known to others, குழூஉக்குறி. உட்சீலை, s. An under or inner cloth. 2. The lining of a garment. உட்சவர், s. An inner wall, அகச் சுவர். 2. The interior of a wall, சுவரி னிடை. உட்சுவரிருக்கப்புறச்சுவர்தீற்றுகிறது. To whitewash the outside wall while neglecting the inside; i. e. to be scrupulously exact in external conduct, while the heart is full of wickedness; to attend to things remote while those at hand are neglected. உட்சூத்திரம், s. The main spring in a machine, any internal power or operation concealed from view, மூலசூத் திரம். 2. A clue, or key to an affair, உள்ளுபாயம். 3. The main spring in a business, மூலகாரணம். 4. A skilfully contrived rule in numbers, &c., நுட்பமான வகை. 5. A short, compendious and subtle method of ascertaining, or effecting a thing, இலேசானவகை. 6. (fig.) Internal meaning of a passage, real object in view, உட்குறிப்பு. உட்செல்ல, inf. To enter, insinuate one's self, உள்ளேபோக. உட்டுளை, s. Hollowness--as of a pipe or tube. உட்டுளைப்பொருள், s. Any thing tubular. உட்டெளிவு, s. Cleverness of mind, freedom from doubt, profound knowledge, அகத்தெளிவு. 2. The clear part of the liquid--as poured off from the sediment, வடித்தசாறு. 3. Soundness--as in timber, &c., உள்வைரம். 4. Inner measurment. உட்டேட்டம், s. The secret object or pursuit, as differing from profession, or appearances, மனநாட்டம். 2. Property acquired and kept secretly, உட்சம்பத்து. உட்பகை, s. Internal enmity, hatred or grudge, rancor at heart with professions of friendship. 2. Internal, innate, or secret foes attached to the soul, causing actions, &c., காமாதிக்குற்றங் கள். (For the six உட்பகை, see பகை.) 3. Hatred of a king by his professed friends, civil conspiracy, அரசருட்பகை. எட்பகவன்சிறுமைத்தேயாயினுமுட்பகையுள்ள தாங்கேடு. Though the internal hatred be as the fragment of a grain of rape seed, the consequent evil may be very great. உட்பக்கம், s. Subject of investigation or deduction in things of a mental, mystic, or spiritual character. See பக்கம். உட்பட, inf. To enter, be within, or under--as in age, உள்ளாக. 2. To engage in, be concerned in, to be, or become one of a party, or community; to be involved in, to be subject to, to yield to, to be obedient to, உடன்பட. 3. adv. Together with, inclusive. மூன்றுவயதுக்குட்பட்டபிள்ளை. A child under three years of age. அதுட்பட. That inclusive. மோசத்துக்குட்பட, inf. To fall into danger. உட்படி, s. A make-weight, உட்ப டிக்கல். உட்படுத்த, inf. To cause to enter, to introduce, அகப்படுத்த. 2. To persuade, proselyte, bring one into, or over to one's party, மதத்துக்குள்ளாக்க. 3. To include, involve, entrap, ensnare, சிக்கப்பண்ண. உட்பத்தியம், s. Abstinence from venery as a regimen while taking medicine, &c.; sometimes அகப்பத்தியம். உட்பந்தி, s. The chief row or table of guests, அகப்பந்தி. உட்பலம், s. Property at command, திரவியபலம். 2. Friends, assistants, attendants, &c., துணைவர்பலம். 3. Forces, army, army in reserve, சேனாபலம். 4. Strength, firmness of body, hardness, strength from food, தேகபலம். உட்பற்று, s. Internal attachment, affections of the heart, &c. See அகப்பற்று. உட்பிரவேசம், s. Entrance. உட்பிரவேசிக்க, inf. To make professions of friendship, kindness, concern, &c. உட்புரை, s. The hollow of a tube or pipe, உட்டுளை. 2. The small folds of a garment, உள்மடிப்பு. 3. (fig.) The secret of the matter, internal affair, அந்தரங்கம். உட்புறம், s. The inside, உட்பக்கம். உட்பொருள்--உள்ளர்த்தம், s. The real meaning, தாற்பரியம். 2. The hidden, or secret meaning, உட்கருத்து. சாஸ்திரத்தினுட்பொருள், s. The occult sense of a doctrine. உட்போட, inf. To coax, to wheedle, வசமாக்க. உண்ணா--உண்ணாக்கு, s. Mental assignment of the hand, &c., to a tutelary divinity, as practised by the workshippers of Siva and Vishnu, by touching the joints of the fingers, with the thumb while repeating incantations in the daily worship. கரபரிசம், s. Touch of the hand, கையினாற்றொடுகை. கரபாத்திரம், s. Receiving food in charity in the hollow of the hands joined together which are used instead of a vessel, as practised by some ascetics, கையாகியபாத்திரம். Wils. p. 192. KARAPATRA.. கரபாத்திரமெடுக்க, inf. To beg alms receiving them with joined hands. கரப்பொறி, s. A kind of trap used to catch monkeys, &c., ஓர்பொறி. கரமுகன், s. Ganesa, விநாயகன். கரலட்சணம், s. The mode of using the hands in dancing which are of twenty-three kinds, viz.: 1. பதாகை, stretching all the five fingers keeping them close and straight. 2. திரிபதாகை, bending the thumb and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 3. பிறை, keeping the other four fingers close together separately from the thumb. 4. சர்ப்பசிரம், keeping the palm of the hand curved. 5. சாளையம், bending the little finger and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 6. மான்றலை, keeping the middle three fing ers down and lifting the other two up. 7. பதுமகோசரம், keeping up the palm of the hand opened having the fingers bent. 8. சிலீமுகம், keeping the tip of the forefinger at the bottom of the thumb and the tips of each of the rest at the middle of the adjoining finger. 9. முட்டி, folding all the four fingers and keeping the thumb above the middle finger. 1. சிக ரம், folding all the other fingers and keeping the thumb stretched. 11. சூசி, stretching the pointing finger and keeping the thumb curved while the others are folded. 12. கபித்தம், keeping the tips of the thumb and fore-finger close together and the other folded. 13. கடகம், keeping the tips of the thumb and forefinger together, the middle finger bent and the rest stretched. 14. சந்தங்கிஷம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, stretching the rest. 15. அஞ்சவாய், keeping the ringfinger and little finger separately stretched up and keeping the tips of the rest together. 16. முகிழ், keeping the tips of all the fingers together. 17. திரிலிங்கம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, the rest curved and the wrist a little bent. 18. மிருகசிரம், stretching up the pointing finger and the little finger and keeping the rest close together. 19. சிங்கநகம், keeping up the palm of the hand having the fingers almost folded. 2. கூர்மம், stretching up the middle finger while the others are bent down. 21. பூரணம், stretching all the five fingers straight not being close together. 22. மென்னிலை, bending the thumb and stretching up the rest. 23. முன்னதம், separating the fore-finger from the rest. கரவாளம், s. kvi (p. 98) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cover-as with an umbrella; to canopy, over-spread, bend inwards, மூட. (p.) குடைகலித்தான். He covered himself with an umbrella. கவிப்பு, v. noun. Covering, concavity, a bending, curvity, flexure, inclination, மூடுகை. 2. s. An unbrella, a canopy, குடை. (p.) 3. In divination by astrology, the signs which stand as many signs forward from the rising sign, as the situation of the sun is from the ஆரூடம், இராசிக்கவிப்பு. (See ஆரூடம் and உதயம்.) 4. Partiality, affection, bias, favoritism, மனங்கவிப்பு. அவரிவர்கள்மேலேகலிப்பாயிருக்கிறார். He is partial, favorably inclined, &c., toward them. 26)

kāmpu (p. 104) s. A foot-stalk, a pedicle, a footstem, பூமுதலியவைகளின் தாள். 2. A handle of a straight kind, a shaft, a haft, கைப்பிடி. 3. Bamboo, மூங்கில். 4. A flower-stalk, a peduncle, மலர்க்கொம்பு. 5. Silk cloth, பட்டுச் சீலை. 6. A kind of gourd, பூசுணி. Cucurbita. காம்பாய--காம்புகிள்ள, inf. To nip off the stalks of vegetables for cooking, &c. காம்புகால்பொர. The wind rushing against the bamboos. (இராமா.) கம்புச்சத்தகம், s. kuṭilam (p. 117) s. A bend, crook, flexure, curve, வளைவு. 2. Dishonesty, fraud, வஞ்ச கம். Wils. p. 226. KUT'ILA. 3. Tangled or matted hair, சடை. (Compare கோடீரம்.) 4. Ether--as one of the five elements in nature, ஆகாயம். 5. Undeveloped Maya which, when developed, is called குடிலை. குடிலமாயை. 6. The tri-literal mystic ஓம், employed as the first word of the Vedas and other sacred writings, and the first and last word in incantations, பிரணவம். 7. kuṇkku (p. 118) s. Crookedness, flexture, curvature, கோணல்; [ex குட, crooked.] 2. Thwartness, opposition, thwarting, எதிரி டை. 3. The east, கிழக்கு--Note. In the last sense, the word becomes குண to convey an adjective signification--as in குணகடல், குணதிசை, குணநாடு. குணக்குப்பண்ண, inf. To thwart an undertaking; to cause difficulties in business, to throw obstacles in the way. குணக்கெடுக்க, inf. To straighten a crooked thing. நாயின்வாலைக்குணக்கெடுக்கலாமா. Is it possible to divest a dog's tail of its curl? குணக--குணங்க, inf. v. n. TO become bent or crooked, வளைய. 2. To sink, faint. fade, droop, சோர. 3. To be dejected; to feel uneasy; to be vexed, மனந்தளர. குணக்க, inf. v. a. To bend, to incurvate, வளைக்க. குணகோளார்த்தம், s. Eastern hemisphere; [ex கோளம், sphere, et அர்த்தம், half.] 8)

kuṉi (p. 132) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. (from Sans. Kun'a, contracted or curved.) To stoop, crouch, bend; to be bowed--as the head, வணங்க. 2. To bend or be bent-as a bow, வளைய. 3. (fig.) To stoop, condescend; to yield, தாழ. 4. (சது.) To pity, commiserate, relent, grieve, இரங்க. குனியநிமிரமாட்டான். He can neither stoop nor straighten himself--either from disease, fatness, or having eaten too much. வில்லுக்குனியாதெய்தால்விலகாதெதிர்த்தபகை. If the bow be not bent sufficiently, the enemy will not be put to flight. முட்டுமுன்குனியவேண்டும். Stoop before you strike your head; i. e. after-thoughts avail nothing. குனிந்துநடக்க, inf. To walk stooping. குனிந்துபார்க்க, inf. To stoop and look. குனியப்போட--குனியவைக்க, s. To place in a stooping posture or position. குனிதல்--குனிவு, v. noun. Stooping; inclination. 64)
