இறு
iṟu (p. 57) கிறது, இற்றது, ம், இற, v. n. To break, to be snapped off--as a stick, a rope; to be severed--as a limb, to be broken, lopped or cut off, be truncated, ஒடிய. 2. To perish, die, to be slain, சாவ. 3. To end, terminate, cease, become extinet, முடிவுற. 4. To decay, moulder, crumble, to be corroded; to decay--as a bone, கெட. (p.) அந்தக்குடியிற்றிறந்துபோயிற்று. That family has been reduced to indigence, and ruined. இறுமுறி, s. A discharged bond from which a piece is torn off. இறுவதஞ்சாமை, neg. v. noun. Fearlessness of loss--one of the eight qualities of a merchant, வணிகரெண்குணத் திலொன்று. இறுவரை, s. End, முடிவு. செறுநரைக்காணிற்சுமக்கவிறுவரைகாணிற்கிழக்கா ந்தலை. kṉṉl (p. 102) s. Sugar-cane, கரும்பு. 2. Sugar-candy, jaggary, sugar, &c., சருக் கரை. 3. A water-pot with a spout, கரகம். 4. An Indian hour of twenty-four minutes நாழிகை. 5. கன்மம்
kaṉmam (p. 102) s. Moral actions, especially in their effects--as the cause of transmigrations and their accompanying joys and sorrows, pleasure and pains, intelligence or stupidity, &c., சஞ்சிதகன்மம். 2. Actions, செய்தொழில். 3. Evil actions, evil, vice, தீவினை. (See கருமம்.) 4. Fate, destiny, the fruits, retributions, &c., of actions in former births, பிராரத்தகன்மம். Wils. p. 198. KARMMAN. In the Agamas, actions and their effects are of three classes, viz: 1. ஆகாமியம், moral actions, good and evil of the present life, considered as the source of future births with their suffering and enjoyment. 2. சஞ்சிதம், the accumulated actions of the soul in former births, the retributions of which are to be experienced in future transmigrations. 3. பிராரத்தம் or பிராரத்துவம், the enjoyment and sufferings apportioned to the soul in the present state --as the retributions of actions in former births. அவனைக்கொல்லாதேகன்மம்பிடிக்கும். Do not kill him, if you do, the action will seize you. கன்மங்கட்டுப்பட, inf. See கருமங் கட்டுப்பட. கன்மகாண்டம், s. A medical book treating of diseases, as caused by the sins of former births, and the means necessary to remove them, so that medicines may prove effectual, ஓர்வைத்தியநூல். கன்மசண்டாளன், s. See கரும சண்டாளன். கன்மசாந்தி, s. A ceremony for the expiation of the evil of former deeds, கருமநிவர்த்தி. கன்மஞ்செய்தகுடி, s. A family guilty of wicked actions in former births, now made manifest by their sufferings. கன்மத்தியாகம், s. Expiation of the evil of a former birth. கன்மத்துரோகி, s. A wicked wretch, a criminal, சண்டாளன். கன்மநிவர்த்தி--கன்மநிவாரணம், s. See கருமநிவர்த்தி. கன்மந்தொலைய, inf. To become extinct, to be worked or eaten out and terminated--as former evil deeds. கன்மபந்தம், s. [as கருமபந்தம்.] The bond or connexion between the sins of former births and their subsequent punishment. கன்மபரிபாகம், s. Ripening, or expiration of the accumulated merit of the actions of former births, கன்மவொழிவு. கன்மபாதகம், s. A heinous crime. கன்மபாதகன், s. One guilty of some heinous crime, கொடியபாதகன். கன்மபூமி, s. The earth as the theatre of moral actions, or place where virtue and vice are practised, and their respective merit and demerit accumulated, பூலோகம். கன்மம்பிடிக்க, inf. To attend, follow, or pursue--as the guilt of crimes personified. கன்மம்புசிக்க, inf. To experience the good or evil of former actions. கன்மவலை, s. The net of moral actions, கன்மபாசம், i. e. the entanglements of births, or actions and their result, in subsequent transmigrations. கன்மவாதனை, s. See கருமவேதனை. கன்மரோகம்--கன்மவியாதி, s. See கருமவியாதி. கன்மவுடம்பு, s. Bodies assumed, as a result of former deeds, கன்மசரீரம். கன்மாதி, s. Funeral rites, &c., for deceased ancestors, கர்மாதி. கன்மி, s. A heinous sinner, a perpetrator of crimes, கருமி. கன்மேந்திரியம், s. The five organs of action, தொழிற்கருவி. See இந்திரியம். 68)
கலி
kli (p. 96) s. Noise, clamor, sound, ஒலி. 2. The கலிப்பா. species of verse and its varieties. (See பா.) 3. Sea, ocean, கடல். 4. Battle, war, போர். 5. Deceit, fraud, வஞ்சகம். 6. Strength, force, வலி. (p.) 7. Misery, misfortune, disaster, calamity-also misery, personified as a deity, சிறுமை. 8. The fourth age of the world or that of vice, misery, deterioration, &c. See கலியுகம். கலிக்குப்புதுமையானகாரியமாயிருக்கிறது. It is a strange thing in this age. கலிகாலம், s. A time of misery, bad times--as resulting from the present age, கொடுமையானகாலம். கலிதீர்த்தான். He who put an end to misery. கலித்தளை, s. Mode of connexion of metrical feet in கலிப்பா. See தளை. கலித்தாழிசை, s. A class of verse, கலிப்பாவினத்திலொன்று. கலித்துருமம், s. The தான்றிமரம்-A tree yielding a nut much used in medicines, it is said in நைடதம் that Kali, the god of the iron age, once concealed himself in the fruit of this tree, Terminalia bellerica. (p.) கலித்துறை, s. A class of verse including several species, கலிப்பாவினத்தி லொன்று. கட்டளைக்கலித்துறை, s. A class of கலித்துறை verse. கலிப்பா, s. A verse of which there are ten kinds, viz.: 1. நேரிசை ஒத்தாழிசைக் கலிப்பா. 2. அம்போதரங்க ஒத்தாழிசைக்கலிப்பா. 3. தரவு கொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 4. தரவிணைக்கொச்சக் கலிப்பா. 5. சிஃறாழிசைக்கொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 6. பஃறாழிசைகொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 7.மயங்கிசைக்கொ ச்சக்கலிப்பா. 8. ஒருபோகு கொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 9. வண்ணக ஒத்தாழிசைக்கலிப்பா. 1. வெண் கலிப்பா. கட்டளைக்கலிப்பா, s. A species of கலிப்பா verse. கலியர், s. Soldiers, warriors, combatants, படைவீரர். 2. The poor, destitute, தரித்திரர். (p.) கலியாத்தம்--கலியாப்தம், s. Any year of the கலிவருஷம். கலியுகம்-கடையுகம்-நாலாம்யுகம், s. The present iron age being the last of the four Yugas or great ages of the world. Wils. p. 22. KALIUGA.--Note. Its commencement is placed about three-hundred years anterior to the Christian era. Its years are four hundred and thirty-two thousand, at the expiration of which the golden age returns. கலிவிருத்தம், s. A class of verse, கலிப்பாவினத்திலொன்று. கலிவெண்பா, s. A kind of வெண் பா. 239)
கெடு
keṭu (p. 137) கிறேன், கெட்டேன், வேன், கெட, v. n. To perish; to be destroyed, annihilated, அழிய. 2. To putrefy, rot, decay; to become tarnished, damaged, marred, blighted, கேடுற. 3 To be ruined in circumstances, வறுமையுற. 4. To be violated in chastity, கற்பழிய. 5. To degenerate, deteriorate; to change for the worse, morally or physically, நிலைகெட. 6. To be emaciated, reduced; to be deformed, disfigured, உருவழிய. 7. To be defeated, overcome, தோற்க. 8. To be intrinsically bad, evil or wrong, குணங்கெட. 9. To fall into ruin; to be demolished, destroyed, நாசமுற. 1. To be lost--as an article of property, &c., dropped, stolen or otherwise, காணாமற்போக. 11. To be squandered, spent, wasted, பொருள ழிய. 12. To be worn out, சிதைய. 13. To expire, to terminate--as the retribution of former deeds, வினைகெட. 14. [in gram.] To be elided, dropped, விகாரத்தாற்கெட. கெடுவாய். May you perish--a form of imprecation. கெட்டாற்குற்றார்கிளையிலுமில்லை. In poverty, friends are not found even among relations. கெட்டேனே. Ah! I am lost, ruined; I an undone. கெட்டுப்போனபார்ப்பானுக்குச் செத்துப்போனப சுவைத்தானங்கொடுத்தாற்போல. As if a dead cow be presented to a ruined brahman; said of an unprofitable pursuit by an incompetent person. கெட்டும்பட்டணஞ்சேர். Though to be ruined, go to the town. தரித்திரங்கெடும்படி. That the misery of poverty may cease. ஈற்றுயிர்மெய்கெடும். The final compound letter is dropped. கெடுகுடிசொற்கேளாது. A family given up to ruin will never listen to advice. கெட்டகுடியேகெடும். A ruined family will sink more and more. கெடுகாலம், s. A time of ruin, evil, drought, &c.; also used reference to retribution of evil deeds which is to come immediately. கெடுமதி, s. Wicked devices. 2. Folly, rashness, presumption. 3. Loss, ruin, waste. கெடுமதி கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாது. Folly is blind. கெடுவான், appel. n. He who will perish--the wretch; commonly used abusively. கெட்டதனம், s. Bad disposition; badness. 2. Indecorum, incivility. கெட்டநடத்தை, s. Immoral or vile conduct. கெட்டநிலை, s. A bad state, a woful plight. 2. A dangerous profession. 3. A dangerous way or system--as of religion. கெட்டபுத்தி, s. Perverted understanding. 2. Bad counsel, &c. கெட்டமணம், s. An offensive smell. கெட்டரூபம், s. A deformed, monstrous or horrid shape. கெட்டவியாதி, s. A bad, malignant, dangerous disease. 2. The venereal or other filthy disease. கெட்டகேடு, s. Utter ruin, uselessness, unworthiness, &c.--usually as an exclamation கெட்டுப்போனவள், s. A seduced woman, a bad woman. கெடுதலை, v. noun. Ruin, அழிவு. 2. Damage, loss, detriment, injury, நஷ்டம். 3. Disaster, calamity, இடையூறு. 4. Degeneracy, vileness, evil, இழிவு. கெடுதல், v. noun. Perishing; being ruined, spoiled, defeated, &c. 2. Damage, injury, calamity, &c. 3. [in gram.] Elision, omission. கெடுதி, s. Loss of any thing dropped, stolen, or strayed, &c., இழப்பு. 2. Loss --opposed to gain, in astrological calculations, augural divinations, &c., நஷ்டம். (See நினைத்தகாரியம்.) 3. Emergency, hazard, extremity. ஆபத்து. 4. Ruin, அழிவு. 5. Evil, disaster, கேடு. 6. (fig.) The thing lost, இழந்தபொருள். ஒருகெடுதிசொல்லவேண்டும். Please to divine for me about what I have lost. கெடு, v. noun. Ruin, destruction; decay, கேடு. 2. Expiration of a limited time, a term or limit of time, தவணை. கெடுவாகவையாதுலகம். The world will not consider it a ruin. (குற.) கெடுத்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The time set, is passed. கெடுப்படிக்கு. According to the time agreed upon. பத்துநாட்கெடுவிலே. At the expiration of the term of ten days. கெடுச்சொல்ல--கெடுவைக்க, inf. To fix a term of time, a day, &c. 2. To postpone. 8)
சந்தி
canti (p. 159) s. A joining, junction, meeting, union, combination, இசைப்பு. 2. The meeting or junction of two or more roads, rivers, &c., or the place of such meeting, சந்திக்குமிடம். 3. The joining of words, and the changes of letters by elision, reduplication, and substitution in the coalescence of words with each other, or in the addition to a word of particles expressing case, or in the formation of derivatives from a primitive, விகுதிமுதலிய வற்றின்புணர்ச்சி. 4. The intervals of morning and evening twilight, especially the latter, regarded as the union of the day and night, மாலைநேரம்; thus அந்திசந்தி, morning and evening. (c.) 5. A period at the expiration of each yuga, connecting it with the following, and occupying 1/12 of each, during which a gradual change takes place in the world, introductory to the peculiarities of the succeeding yuga; also a period of the same length, as the Satya yuga at the end of each Manvantara and of each Kalpa, யுகசந்தி. W. p. 889. SANDHI. 6. Reconciliation, pacification, forming friendship, நட்பாதல். 7. The bamboo, so called from its knots, மூங்கில். 8. The stated worship for each individual, morning and evening, and with some in mid-day, சந்தியாவந்தனம். (p.) 9. Division of time in a day, especially meal time--as ஒருசந்தி, one meal, it being fast-day. (c.) 1. [loc.] Juncture, crisis, a critical point of time, தறுவாய். சந்திகாவலன், s. [prov.] As அந்திகாவ லன், which see. சந்திக்கரை, s. The place where several roads or rivers meet. (c.) சந்திபண்ண--சந்திமுடிக்க, inf. To perform he daily private worship, morning, noon and evening. (p.) சந்திப்பாடு, v. noun. A mishap supposed to be caused by a malignant spirit in a cross way, or other haunted place. சந்திமறிக்க, inf. [loc.] to avert the displeasure of malignant divinities, in time of epidemics, by presenting them cooling offerings at cross roads, and thus to stop their progress into the country. சந்திமிதிக்க, inf. [prov.] To pass across way at an auspicious time, as after recovering from sickness, especially from the small pox, on first going out. சந்திமிதிப்பிக்க, inf. To cause a child to walk the first time on the 6th month in places where two or more ways meet. சந்தியாகாலம், s. The period of evening twilight, மாலைநேரம். 2. The three seasons of stated worship. (See சந்தி.) 3. The interval between one yuga and another, யுகசந்தி; [ex Sa. Sandhya.] W. p. 89. சந்தியாகாலகருமம், s. Evening devotion. (R.) சந்தியாராகம், s. The redness of the sky at sun-set. (R.) சந்தியாவந்தனம்--சந்தியாவந்தனை, s. [prov. சந்திவந்தனை.] Worship at any of the three stated periods; [ex வந்தனை, worship.] சந்தியிலிருக்க, inf. [prov.] To be ruined, to be driven into the street. சந்தியில்வைக்க, inf. To ruin a person, (lit.) to drive him into the streets. சந்திவிக்கிரகம், s. Forming a friendship with enemies to compass their ruin; one of the modes recommended for dealing with enemies. (p.) சந்தியிற்கொண்டுவர, inf. [prov. fig.] To expose a person to ridicule and shame (lit.) to bring to the street. முச்சந்தி, s. The meeting of three roads. நாற்சந்தி, s. The meeting of four roads or streets. சொற்சந்தி, s. One word combining with another in sense. சந்திவழு, s. Impropriety in the use of grammatical sandhi. The three grammatical sandhis as applied to words of Sanscrit origin are, 1. தீர்க்கசந்தி. 2. குண சந்தி. 3. விருத்திசந்தி. To these a fourth, ஆ திவிருத்திசந்தி is added. (நன்.) சந்திகாரியம், s. tēvam (p. 259) s. Deity, Godhead, See தெய்வம். 2. Fate; ued only adjectively. தேவகங்கை, s. The celestial Ganges, ஆகாயகங்கை. தேவகடாட்சம், s. Divine favor. தேவகட்டளை, s. Divine injuction, command of God. தேவகணம், s. The class of the inferior gods, or celestials. See கணம். தேவகாந்தாரி, s. A kind of tune, ஓர்பண். See காந்தாரி. தேவகானம், s. Divine melody, tune, &c., தெய்வப்பண். தேவகிரி, s. A place sacred to Skanda near the Himalaya range, ஓர்மலை. தேவகிருபை, s. Divine grace, merey, compassion. தேவகுமாரன்--தேவசுதன், s. The son of a deity. 2. [in Chris. usage.] Jesus Christ. தேவகுரு, s. The planet Jupiter, or its regent, priest of the celestials, வியா ழன். தேவகுருவஞ்சம்--தேவகுருவம், s. A place of bliss, one of the போகபூமி, which see. (சது.) தேவகுலம், s. The race of gods, தே வசாதி. 2. (சது.) A temple, கோயில். தேவகூத்தியர், s. (plu.) Courtesans of the gods of Swerga, தேவகணிகையர். தேவகோட்டை, s. Name of a town in the Madura District, the principal residence of நாட்டுக்கொட்டையார். தேவக்கிரியை, s. The providence of God, தெய்வச்செயல். 2. One of the thirtytwo tunes in singing. See இராகம். தேவசபை, s. The divine presence, &c., as தேவசமூகம். 2. The assembly in the temple. See சபை. தேவசமூகம், s. Divine presence, the presence of a deity, idol, &c., spoken in reverence of the interior of a temple. தேவசன்னிதானம்--தேவசன்னிதி, s. The divine presence. 2. A temple as the abode of a deity. See திருமுன். தேவசாயுச்சியம், s. Beatification. See சாயுச்சியம். தேவசாட்சி, s. An oath, ஆணை. (சது.) தேவசித்தம், s. Divine will. See திரு வுளம். தேவசிந்தனை, s. Divine meditation. See சிந்தனை. தேவசீகிருதம், s. That which belongs to God, தேவசம்பந்தமுடையது, (Beschi.) தேவசுபாவம், s. Nature, attributes, qualities of the Deity. தேவசேவை, s. Attendance at the temple, ministering to and worshipping the idol, தெய்வஊழியம். 2. Having the appearance of the deity, his vision, his form, &c., தெய்வதரிசனம். தேவசேனாதிபதி, s. Skanda, as general of the Devas in the expedition against the Asuras, கந்தன். தேவடியாள், s. A dancing woman of the temple. (c.) See தேவதாசி. தேவடியாள்மகன், s. A bestard; spoken in contempt. தேவதச்சன்--தெய்வத்தச்சன், s. The architect of the gods, Visvakarma, விச் சுவகர்மன். தேவதத்துவம், s. Divine power. தேவதரு, s. See தேவதாரம். தேவதலம்--தேவஸ்தலம்--தேவஸ்தா னம், s. A sacred shrine, a temple, &c., கோயில். தேவதாசன், s. A devotee, a servant of a deity, தொய்வத்தொண்டன். 2. The son of Arichandra, one of the six monarchs of India, அரிச்சந்திரன்மகன். தேவதாசி, s. (St.) A dancing and singing girl of a temple, commonly a courtesan, தேவடியாள்.--Note. The courtesans of the gods are உருவசி, மேனகை, திலோத்தமை and அரம்பை. தேவதாரம், s. Any of the five famous trees in Swerga, ஐந்தருவிலொன்று. 2. A medicinal, fragrant tree, செம்புளிச்சை. 3. A kind of pine tree, ஓர்மரம், Erythroxylon aureolatum, L. தேவதாரி--தேவதாரு, s. A kind of pine tree, as தேவதாரம். 3. தேவதாருவனம், s. A forest celebrated in the Skanda Purana, in which fortyeight thousand Rishis resided. தேவதாளி, s. A kind of plant, a Convolvulus, a kitchen herb, ஓர்பூண்டு. தேவதுந்துமி, s. The drums of the gods, தெய்வப்பறை. தேவதூஷகன்--தேவதூஷணக்காரன், s. A blasphemer, one who reviles God, or sacred things. தேவதூஷணம், s. Blasphemy. தேவதூதன், s. [fem. தேவதூதி.] A divine messenger. 2. [in Chirs. usage.] An angel. See தூதன். தேவதேவன், s. Deity, the Suprems Being--applied by each one to the object of his higest worship. தேவஸ்தானம், s. See தேவதலம். தேவஸ்திரி, s. Divine females of Swerga. தேவத்தொண்டு, s. Service to a deity, temple, &c., திருப்பணி. தேவத்தொண்டன், s. A devotee, as தே வதாசன். தேவத்தன்மை, s. Divine nature. தேவத்துவம், s. Divinity; as தெய் வத்துவம். தேவநகர், s. A temple, கோயில். (சது.) 2. The city of the gods, தேவர்நகரம். தேவநாகரம், s. [sometimes தேவநாகரி.] The Nagari character of the Sanscrit language, சமுஸ்கிருதத்தோர்வகையட்சரம். தேவநாயகன், s. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Any superior deity, தேவர்த லைவன். தேவநாயகன்பட்டணம், s. A town near Cuddalore. தேவநிலம், s. The proper site of a house determined by divination, being one-sixth of a square plot divided and apportioned to the several deities. லதேவநீதி, s. Divine justice. தேவபதம், s. Heaven, the firmament, ஆகாயம். 2. Royal presence, இராசசமுகம். தேவபதி--தேவராசன், s. Indra, இந்தி ரன். தேவபாடை--தேவபாஷை, s. The Sanscrit language as that of the celestials, சமுஸ்கிருதம். தேவபூசை, s. Puja as offered to an idol. தேவபூமி, s. The region or mansion where the gods dwell, தேவர்வாழிடம். தேவபோதனை, s. Divine instruction. தேவப்பிறப்பு, s. A birth entitling a soul to the rank of a god. See தெய் வப்பிறப்பு. தேவப்பிரமா, s. A name of the Muni Narada, நாரதன். தேவப்பிராமணன், s. A divine Brahman. தேவயோனி, s. Divine birth or origin, தெய்வப்பிறப்பு. (p.) தேவரூபி, s. [also தேவசொரூபி.] A divine person, as தேவதாசொரூபி. தேவப்பெண், s. A goddess. தேவமாதா--தேவமாதுரு, s. An idol procession. தேவயானம்--தேவரதம், s. (St.) A car or vehicle of a god, திவ்வியவிமானம். தேவயானி, s. (St.) Daughter of சுக்கி ரன், teacher the Asuras, சுக்கிரன்புத்திரி. தேவரம்பை, s. Females of Swerga, தெய்வப்பெண். 2. One of the courtesans of the gods, தேவதாசிகளிலொருத்தி. தேவரனுசரிப்பு, s. Supplication (R.) தேவராசன், s. Indra, இந்திரன். தேவராதன், s. A king of Mit'hila. தேவராளன், s. [fem. தேவராட்டி.] One supposed to be possessed so as to utter oracles. சன்னதக்காரன். தேவரிஷி, s. A Rishi of the celestial class. தேவரீர், Your lordship, (2d person plu. of a symbolic verb.] தேவருணவு--தேவரூண், தேவவுணவு, s. Nectar, ambrosia, amrita, அமுதம். தேவர்--தேவர்கள், s. [pl. of தேவன்.] Gods, celestials, deities, objects of worship, gods of Swerga or any other inferior class, சுரர். 2. Honorable persons, as a guru or priest, உயர்ந்தோர்.--Note. According to the Saiva sect the superior gods, or forms of the first order assumed by the Deity are five, viz.: 1. Brahma, பிரமா. 2. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. 3. Rudra or Siva, உருத்திரன். 4. Mayesvara, மயேச்சுரன். 5. Sathasiva, சதாசிவன், These are called, பஞ்சமூர்த்திகள்; the five Murtis, or பஞ்சகர்த்தாக்கள்; five lords. தேவர்கோயில், s. A temple, தேவால யம். தேவர்கோன்--தேவேந்திரன், s. Indra. தேவர்க்காடல், v. noun. Demoniac possession, dancing after certain sacrifices to devils, as சன்னதம், which see. தேவர்வகை, s. The gods of Swerga, 33,,, are divided into four classes, with a chief for each கோடி, or 1,,, as follows. 1.துவாதசாதித்தர், the twelve Adityas. ஆதித்தர், (lit.) the twelve suns, chiefs of their class numbering with them, 12,,, 2. ஏகாதசருத்திரர், the eleven Rudras. உருத்திரர், lords of their companies. comprising in all, 11,,, 3. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், the eight Vasus. their classes, including themselves, containing 8,,. 4. மருத்துவர், the two Asvinis, அச்சுவினிகள், the two physicians, the whole class being 2,,. தேவலகன், s. A brahman who attends on an idol, அர்ச்சகப்பிராமணன். W. p. 423. DEVALAKA. தேவலோகம், s. World of the gods, Swerga, the third of the secven upper worlds, of which Indra is king, the lowest heaven of mortals, who assume the form of gods for a residence in it. The enjoyments are all sensual, and the period of their continuance depends on the merit of the persons while on earth. When this is exhausted, they return for another period of probation; or go to a place of suffering for the expiration of previous demerit. This is the only heaven presented to the hope of the multitude, and generally the highest bliss they anticipate, சுவர் க்கம். தேவவசனம்--தேவவாக்கு, s. The word of God, the divine, word, கடவுள்வாக்கு. தேவவசீகரம், s. [R. Cathol. usage] Transubstantiation. See வசீகரணம். தேவவருஷம்--தேவவருடம், s. A year of the gods. See தேவாண்டு. தேவவிரதன், s. (St.) Bishma, வீடுமன். 2. A pious or religious person, கடவுளைவழி படுவோன். W. p. 434. DEVAVRUTA. தேவவிருட்சம், s. Any of the five species of trees in Swerga, பஞ்சதரு. W. p. 424. DEVAVRUKSHA. தேவவெளிப்படுத்தல், s. (Chirs. usage.) Divine revelation. தேவவைத்தியம், s. Superior medical preparations requiring a knowledge of chemistry, and regarded as of divine origin. See வைத்தியம். தேவன், s. A Deity, a god, a divine being, கடவுள். W. p. 421. DEVA. 2. A title given to அகம்படியர் caste. 3. A title given to some among Maravars. 4. (சது.) The name of Argha, அருகன். தேவாங்கம், s. Silk cloth, பட்டுச்சீலை. தேவாசனம், s. [in chris. usage.] The throne of god, an altar, கடவுளிருக்கை. தேவாசுவம்--தேவாஸ்வம், s. The horse of Indra, இந்திரன்பரி; [ex அசுவம்.] தேவாண்டு--தேவஆண்டு, s. A year of the gods of Swerga, being three hundred and sixty-five yaers of mortals, திவ்வியவருஷம். தேவாதாயம்--தேவதாயம், s. Allowance for the support of heathen temples. தேவாதி, s. God, கடவுள், (சது.) தேவாதிதேவன், s. The God of gods. தேவாதியர், s. [com.தேவாதிகள்.] The gods of Swerga and other celestials. தேவாதீனம், s. Properties, peculiar rights, prerogative, &c., of a deity. 2. Divine providence. See தெய்வாதீனம். தேவாத்திரம்--தேவாஸ்திரம், s. A divine missile-weapon from the gods. தேவாமிர்தம்--தேவாமுதம், s. The ambrosia of the gods, the food of immortality, தேவருணவு. தேவாரம், s. Divine praises, songs, &c., chanted by an assistant of the priest others, after the performance of the puja in the Saiva temples. They were made by the three celebrated servants of Siva, அப்பர், சம்பந்தர் and சுந்தரர், and are called the Tamil Vedas, being considered divine. தேவாலயம், s. A temple, a place of worship, any sacred shrine, கோயில். W. p. 424. DEVALAYA. 2. (சது.) The golden mountain Naha Meru, as the favorite resort of the gods, மேருகிரி. See ஆலயம். தேவாலயத்தினுடைமை, s. Temple property, கோயிற்சொத்து. தேவானுட்டிப்பு, v. noun. Religious practice, duties, exercise, worship, &c., [ex அனுஷ்டிப்பு, observance.] தேவி, s. A goddess. 2. Parvati, பார் வதி. 3. Durga, துர்க்கை. 4. Kali. காளி. 5. A queen, the wife of a prince, or nobleman, a term of respect to a married women, சீமாட்டி. 6. A wife, மனைவி--as அண்ணன்தேவி. elder brother's wife. தேவிகோட்டம், s. Any temple of Kali. காளிகோயில்; [ex கோட்டம்.] 2. A town, ஓ ரூர். W. p. 424. DEVIKOD'D'A. தேவிபட்டனம், s. The town of Devipatam, ஓரூர். தேவீகம்--தேவிகம், s. [com தெய்வீ கம். Divinity. தேவேந்திரன், s. Indra, இந்திரன். தேவோக்கித்தம்--தேவோக்தம், s. Divine revelation, தேவவெளிப்படுத்தல்; [ex Sa. Ukta, spoken. (Beschi.) தேவோத்தியானம், s. நிவாரணம்
nivārṇm (p. 277) s. Abolition, removal, leaving off, நீங்குகை. 2. Abolishment, expiation, termination, extinction, ஒழிப்பு; [ex நி, et வாரணம்.]--Of நிவாரணம் there are அரிஷ்டநிவாரணம், expiration of the unlucky அரிஷ்டம்; ரோகநிவாரணம், cure of disease; கன்மநிவாரணம், removal of former accumulated deeds; சென்மநிவாரணம், termination of births by absorption in the deity; பாவநிவார ணம், expiation of sin; கடன்நிவாரணம், liquidation of a debt; also see in their places. நிவாரணமாகுதல், v. noun. Being removed, expiated, liquidated. நிவாரணம்பண்ணுதல், v. noun. Clearing away, expiating, discharging, liquidating. 170) *
பதவி
ptvi (p. 294) s. Road, path way, வழி. 2. Station or situation; degree, rank, நிலை. W. p. 5. PADAVI. 3. Wealth, felicity, செல்வம். 4. Any of the Inferior heavens or states of bliss short of absorption, முத்தி. 5. The abodes or worlds of Rudra, Vishnu, &c., கடவுளர்பதவி. 6. The world of the gods, தேவலோகம்.--The four kinds of பதவி, bliss, are: 1. சரலோகம், in a place with god; 2. சாமீபம், near to god; 4. சாயுச் சியம், identity with god. அந்தப்புண்ணியவானுக்குநல்லபதவிகிடைக்கும்....... That virtuous man will get a good heaven. பதவிசேர--பதவியடைய, inf. To attain an inferior state of bliss. பதவிநீங்க, inf. To remove from one state to another, as a soul at the expiration of its merit, or demerit. பதவியேற்ற, inf. To raise one to a higher world. 2)
புண்ணியம்
puṇṇiyam (p. 324) s. Virtue, moral, or religious merit, from conformity to the Shastras, அறம். 2. Merit of virtuous actions performed in former births attaching to the soul, and bringing blessings, நல் வினைப்பயன். 3. Purity, holiness, தூய்மை. 4. Charity, good works, நல்வினை. (c.)) W. p. 54. PUN'YA. புண்ணியம்லபிக்கும். Virtue will bring a reward. புண்ணியம், 9. Nine charitable actions to a religious mendicant. See நவபுண் ணியம். புண்ணியம், 7. Seven good qualities and acts: 1. நகங்கிருதி, exemption from pride and self-importance; 2. தானம், bestowing gifts; 3. விரதம், fasting, penance, abstinence; 4. சினேகம், exercise of friendship or kindness; 5. நயபோசனம், hospitality; 6. கமை, patience, forbearance; 7. உற்சாகம், zeal, fortitude. புண்ணியகதை--புண்ணியசரித்திரம், s. Meritorious deeds especially of a former birth, resulting in present good, நல்வினை. புண்ணியகாலம், s. An auspicious time for the performance of religious duties, as the hour of an eclipse, &c. புண்ணியகேத்திரம்--புண்ணியக்ஷேத்தி ரம், s. Sacred land, or Central India, as புண்ணியபூமி. புண்ணியக்கருத்து, s. A virtuous or charitable disposition, தருமசிந்தை. புண்ணியசடம்--புண்ணியசரீரம்--புண் ணியதேகம், s. A meritorious, holy man. [in admiration.] புண்ணியசனேசுவரன், s. Kuvêra குபே ரன்; [ex புண்ணியசனம் et ஈசுவரன்.] புண்ணியசன்மம், s. One born with a virtuous disposition on account of good deeds in former births. புண்ணியசாலி, s. A charitable person. புண்ணியசுரூபி--புண்ணியசொரூபி, s. One remarkable for virtue; (lit.) the image or virtue. புண்ணியசாந்து, s. Cow-dung, சாணம். புண்ணியசேடம், s. Merit attaching to the soul at the expiration of each state of existence, to be enjoyed in other births, நல்லூழின்மீதி. புண்ணியதலம்--புண்ணியஸ்தலம், s. A place of resort for worship. புண்ணியதானம், s. Sacred gifts, made to brahmans, or others on special occasions. புண்ணியதிரணம், s. A sacrificial grass, white Kusa, வெண்டருப்பை; [ex திரணம், grass.] புண்ணியதினம். s. A holy day, adapted to religious duties. புண்ணியதீர்த்தம், s. Sacred bathing, a place for religious bathing. புண்ணியத்தானம்--புண்ணியஸ்தானம், [in astrol.] The ninth from the rising sign at birth. See தானம். 2. As புண்ணி யஸ்தலம். புண்ணியத்தோற்றம், 4. Four kinds of merit, attaching to the soul: 1. தவம், penance, self-mortifications, &c., 2. ஒழுக் கம், good conduct, moral and ceremonial; 3. கொடை, liberality, alms-giving; 4. கல்வி, education. புண்ணியநதி, s. A sacred river, as the Kâvery. புண்ணியபலம்--புண்ணியபலன், s. Fruit of meritorious deeds. புண்ணியபுத்திரன், s. A child of high religious merit. புண்ணியபுருஷன், s. As புண்ணியவா ளன். புண்ணியபூ--புண்ணியபூமி, s. [also திவ் வியபூமி.] The holy land of the Hindus, central Asia, bounded on the north by the Hymalayas, south by the Vindya mountains, and on the east and west by the sea. புண்ணியமுதல்வன்--புண்ணியமூர்த்தி, s. The first in merit--God, கடவுள். 2. Buddha, புத்தன். புண்ணியம்பலித்தல், v. noun. The resulting of merit in earthly prosperity. புண்ணியராத்திரம், s. A propitious night for ceremonies; [ex ராத்திரம்=இராத் திரி.] புண்ணியவதி--புண்ணியவாட்டி, s. A meritorious woman. புண்ணியவாளன்--புண்ணியவான், s. [fem. புண்ணியவாட்டி.] A man of high religious character. புண்ணியன், s. A righteous being, divine or human. 2. Siva, சிவன். 3. Argha of the Jainas, அருகன். புண்ணியாகவாசனம், s. An appeasing or propitious ceremony, a peace-offering, ஓர்சடங்கு. 2. Purification of a house from any ceremonial defilement, ஆசூசநி வாரணம்.--Sans. differs. See W. p. 541. PUN'YAHAVACHANA. புண்ணியாத்துமா, s. A righteous soul, a charitable person, male of female. புண்ணியோதயம், s. Manifestation of meritorious deeds, புண்ணியம்தோன்றுகை. 2)

muṭi (p. 356) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. a. To tie, or make a knot, முடிச்சுமுடிய. 2. v. n. To end, terminate, be finished, or completed, முற்ற. 3. To die, சாக. 4. To be possible, capable, கூட. நான்சாப்பிட்டுமுடிந்தது. I have done eating. ஆராதனைமுடிந்தது. The service was over. (Chris. usage.) அதுஉன்னாலேமுடியுமா. Can it be accomplished by you? நான்வரமுடியாது. I cannot come. வேலைஎப்போதுமுடியும். When will the work be finished? அவன்காரியமுடிந்தது. His case is settled, [fig.] he is dead. அதுமுடியாது. It won't do. 2. It is impossible. அதைமுடியப்பார். See how it ends. ஆராய்ந்துமுடியாதகாரியம். It is an unfathomable mystery. அதைமுடிந்துவை. Tie it up in a cloth. நீர்காலால்முடிந்ததை நான்கையாலுமவிழ்க்கமாட்டே ன். The knot tied by your feet, I cannot untie with my hand; see அவிழ், v. முடிந்ததுமுடித்தல், v. noun. The recapitulation of an author, briefly re-stating the points discussed. See உத்தி. முடிந்ததுமுற்றும். Finis, end. (in books.) முடிந்துபோக, inf. To end, to be completed. முடிந்துபோட, inf. To tie up [money &c.] in a cloth. முடிய, inf. [as adv.] Unto the end, finally. See முற்றமுடிய. முடியல், s. All, the whole, எல்லாம். (சது.) முடியாமை, neg. v. noun. Endlessness, முற்றாமை. 2. Impossibility, incapability, கூடாமை. முடிச்சு, v. noun. A knot, a tie; something tied in a bundle. கொடுமுடிச்சு--படுமுடிச்சு, s. A hard intricate knot. See கொடுமை. முடிச்சுமுடிச்சாயிருக்கிறது. It is full of knots. முடிச்சுப்போனது மல்லாமல் இளிச்சவாய்ப்பட்ட முங்கூடக்கிடைத்தது. He has lost his money, and is left to grin. முடிச்சவிழ--முடிச்சுக்குலைய, inf. To become loose, or untied, as a knot, or as hair hanging behind and knotted. முடிச்சவிழ்க்க, inf. To untie a knot. முடிச்சவிழ்க்கி--முடிச்சுமாறி, appel. n. A pick-pocket. திருட்டுப்பையன்கலியாணத்தில்முடிச்சவிழ்க்கிபெ ரியதனம்பண்ணல். In the marriage of a thief, the pick-pocket is the conductor. முடிப்பு, v. noun. A tie, as முடிச்சு. 2. Money wrapt up in a cloth. See கிழி. 3. (p.) End, conclusion, result, completion, &c., as முடிவு. முடிப்புச்செலுத்த, inf. To pay money on a debt, பணங்கட்ட. முடிப்புச்சொல்ல, inf. To conclude a discourse. 2. As முடிவுசொல்ல. முடிப்புரி, s. [improp. முடிப்பிரி.] A receiver of rents, taxes, &c., a shroff, ச ராப்புக்காரன். முடிவு, v. noun. [in gram. முடிபு.] End, termination, close, completion, issue, result, expiration, conclusion, கடை. (சது.) 2. Death, destruction, மரணம். முடிவென்னசொல்லுகிறீர். What do you say of the result? முடிவறிய, inf. To know the result, or end, of a matter, as துறைபோக. முடிவிடம், s. The end, or termination, of a subject or sentence. முடிவிடங்கூறல், v. noun. Giving notice where a point in a discussion terminates. See உத்தி. முடிவிலேபார்க்க, inf. To view abstractly, to consider generically; not to take into consideration individual or particular instances, or determine from immediate causes, but to look to the prime cause, முடிவாய்யோசிக்க. பாரதிதனிலுள்ள செயலெலாமுடிவிலே பார்க்கினி ன்செயலல்லவோ. Are not thine acts in this world, from an abstract, and generalized view of things? (தாயுமான.) முடிவில்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Eternity, that which hath no end. முடிவுசொல்ல, inf. To decide, or pass sentence. முடிவுரை, s. The conclusion of a work, or discourse; the peroration, as distinguished from முகவுரை, the introduction. 110)
