oṟṟu (p. 84) s. A mute consonant, மெய் யெழுத்து. 2. Spying, espionage, searching, agency, வேவு. 3. A messenger, an agent or emissary, தூதன். 4. A spy, வேவுகாரன். ஒற்றர், s. Spies, searchers, emissaries, வேவுகாரர். 2. The confidential agents or messengers of a prince whether employed in his own dominion or another's, for a good or bad purpose, தூதர். ஒற்றராலக்கணத்தேயுணர்ந்து. Being acquainted (with the counsels of the enemy) at that time through the spies. (பார.) கன்னலொன்றளவைதன்னிற்கந்தவேளொற்றன்யா க்கை சின்னபின்னங்களாகச்செய்குவன். I would tear to pieces the body of Veeravagu, Skandar's emissary, in the space of an hour. (ஸ்காந்.) ஒற்றளபு--ஒற்றளபெடை, s. The insertion of a consonant in verse to lengthen the sound. See அளபெடை. ஒற்றாடல், v. noun. The act of directing spies. ஒற்றாளுதல், v. noun. Employing spies or secret messengers, தூதரையாளுதல். ஒற்றுக்கேடு, s. The elision of a consonant. ஒற்றுக்கேட்டல், v. noun. Overhearing. ஒற்றுப்பெயர்த்தல், v. noun. [in மி றைக்கவி.] Constructing a species of verse so artfully that, independent of the main sense, other meanings may be contained in it, மிறைக்கவியினோருறுப்பு--as அம்புத்தலை, the head of an arrow is அப்பு த்தலை, when the mute is hardened--which means the new head--besides the original meaning. ஒற்றெழுத்து, s. An inanimate consonant, மெய்யெழுத்து. ஒற்றொழிபாட்டு, s. A verse that contains no mute consonants, மெய்யெழு த்தில்லாப்பாட்டு. 27)

kūṭu (p. 133) s. A nest, a hive; a cage, a coop, பறவைமுதலியவற்றின்கூடு. 2. A pen, a sty, a kennel, பன்றிமுதலியவற்றின்கூடு. 3. A small receptacle--as an inkstand, மைக்கூடு. 4. A recipient, a receptacle of the soul, சரீரம். 5. A case, a sheath, உறை. 6. A testaceous, or mud shell of some insects; a cocoon, புழுக்கூடு. 7. Gut'ha, to envelope, screen.) கூட்டோடேபோச்சுது குளிருங்காய்ச்சலும். The fever and ague have gone off with the case (the body); i. e. the person has died. கூடுகட்ட, inf. To build nests, cases, &c.--as birds, caterpillars, bees, &c. 2. To make cages, hives, &c. 3. To put a case or covering on fruits, &c. கூட்டிலடைக்க, inf. To inclose in a cage, to encage, to coop up. 2. To enclose a charm, a talisman or an amulet in a casket. கூட்டுப்பல்லக்கு, s. [prov.] A palankeen with sliding doors. கூடுபோட--கூடுவிட, inf. To die; lit. to drop the body. கூடுவிட்டுக்கூடுபாய, inf. To leave its own body at pleasure and enter another, or an inanimate thing--as the soul is feigned to do; a magic art. கூடுங்கழுந்தும், s. To pass freely--as the breath of a person when noticed to ascertain his fortune. சரம்பார்க்க, inf. To observe the free passage of the breath. சரங்கட்ட, inf. To make a wreath. சரந்தொடுக்க, inf. To shoot arrows. ஒருவன்மேற்சரந்தொடுத்தல். Shooting arrows at one, i. e. aspersing his character, casting dirt upon him. (c.) சரப்பணி, s. [com. சரப்பளி.] A gold chain for the neck. சரமணி, s. A waist-belt with tinkling bells, அரைப்பட்டிகை. சரமணிக்கோவை, s. The சரமணி belt. சரமாதம், s. [in astrol.] Any of the four months corresponding with its appropriate சரராசி. சரராசி, s. [in astrol.] Four signs of the zodiac auspicious to movements-such as setting out on a journey, &c.; the four being Aries, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. See இராசி. சரமாலை, s. A covering formed supernaturally by arrows shot into the air, as a means of defence from the weapons of the enemy, அப்பாற்சமைத்தகூ டம். (p.) சரமாரி--சரவருஷம், s. A shower of arrows. (c.) சராசரம், s. Existences moveable and immoveable, the aggregate of all things animate and inanimate; [ex அசரம், immoveable.] சராசனம், s. A bow, வில்; [ex சரம், arrow, et அசனம், throwing.] சராப்பியாசம், s. To obtain bliss. சித்திபெற்றவன்--சித்தியுள்ளவன், s. One who has succeeded in magic, medicine, business, &c. சித்திமுத்தி, s. The happiness of success. (Colloq.) சித்தியாக, inf. To prove successful as magic, incantations, medicines, undertakings, &c., பயன்பட. அட்டசித்தி--அட்டமாசித்தி, s. The eight superhuman powers ascribed to Siva, and which, it is supposed, may be acquired by extraordinary austerities attended with magical rites. They are. 1. அணிமா, the power of reducing one's self or any thing else to the size of an atom. 2. மகிமா, the power of increasing one's bulk without limit. 3. இலகிமா, the power of rendering one's self or other things light, overcoming gravitation. 4. கரிமா, the faculty of increasing weight, solidity, &c., also written கிரிமா. 5. பிராத்தி, the power of attaining every thing desired, as to touch the moon with the finger, &c. 6. பிராகாமியம், the power to overcome natural obstacles and go any where. 7. ஈசத்துவம் or ஈசிதை, Supreme dominion over animate or inanimate nature. 8. வசித்துவம், or விசி தை, the power of enchanting, changing the course of nature or assuming any form.--Note. In Wilson's Dictionary, instead of கரிமா, is given, காமாவசா யிதை, the accomplishment of every promise or engagement. See also Ellis. p. 18. சிவஞானசித்தி, s. The four class of தோற்றம். 1. பை, or சார யுகம், viviparous, womb-born. 2. முட்டை, or அண்டசம், oviparous or egg-born. 3. நிலம், or உற்பீசம், germinating from the earth by seeds, &c. 4. வியர்வை, or சுவேதசம், insects supposed to be engendered by perspiration, &c., which see severally. வெள்ளிதோற்றம், s. The appearance of stars, as denoting the time of the evening auspicious for marriage, &c. பேய்த்தோற்றம், s. An appearance of an evil spirit. நிலாத்தோற்றம், s. Rising of the moon. தோற்றக்கவி, s. [loc. கட்டியக்காரன்கவி.] A verse sung immediately before the appearance of a person on the stage. தோற்றத்தரு, s. Fordableness, ford, தாண்டுதுறை.-- The நிலை, (attitudes) in archery are; 1. பைசாசம், standing with one leg straight and the other bent, as devils are said to stand; 2. மண்டலம், standing with both knees bent out; 3. ஆலீடம், standing with the right knee bent out, and the left foot advanced; 4. பிரத்தியாலீடம், standing with the left knee bent and the right foot advanced. (சது.)--Note. Some authorities give a fifth posture, சமபாதம், standing with the feet even. நிலையுரியாய்ச்சீலையையுரிந்தான். He stripped or made himself naked. நிலையைவிட்டால்நீச்சு. If the fordable depth be left, one must swim--videlicet, give not up a certainty for an uncertainty. நிலைகலங்க, inf. [prov.] Primitive, or native soil, as distinguished from கொட்டுமண், made ground. நிலைமண்டிலஆசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four species of ஆசிரியப்பா. See Beschi's Shen-Tamil Gram. p. 85. நிலைமண்டுதல், v. noun. Making a long stay in a place from home. 2. Sticking closely to a place, as a person, or animal. நிலைமாறுதல், v. noun. [in gram.] Being changed in place--as letters, in words, as வைகாசி for வைசாகி, the latter being according to the original, சொல்லினெழுத்துமா றுதல். நிலைமொழி, s. [in gram.] The preceding or antecedent word, வருமொழிக்கு முதன்மொழி. நிலையகம், s. House, abode, வீடு. (p.) நிலையங்கி, s. A robe, a cloak. நிலையழிய, inf. virāṭṭu (p. 397) s. The first progeny of Brahma, who, having divided himself into male and female, produced Viraj from the female; Viraj by himself produced the first Menu, or Swayamb'huva, who was the progenitor of the Prajapatis, and the secondary framer of the visible world.
