kiẕkku (p. 111) s. Downward, the lower side, கீழ். 2. East, கிழக்குத்திசை--Note. The east and south are deemed lower than the other regions. கிழக்கத்திக்காற்று, s. [local.] East wind. கிழக்கத்திமழை, s. [local.] Rain from the east. கிழக்கத்தியான், s. [vul.] A man of the east. கிழக்குமுகம், s. Fronting the east--as temples are usually built. கிழக்குவெளுக்க--கிழக்குவெளிக்க, inf. To dawn--as the light of the morning. 37)

kiẕngku (p. 111) s. An esculent or other thick root--as a young palmyra-root, parsnip, turnip, yam, potatoe, &c., கந்தம். The varieties of yams are, இரத்தவள்ளிக்கிழங்கு, இராச வள்ளிக்கிழங்கு, சிறுகிழங்கு, முள்ளங்கிழங்கு, வள்ளிக் கிழங்கு, &c. அறுகங்கிழங்கு, s. The root of the அறுகு grass. கோரைக்கிழங்கு, s. The root of the கோரை grass. சிறுகிழங்கு, s. The காமனை plant. பெருங்கிழங்கு, s. The இசுரவேர் plant. 38)

kiẕmai (p. 111) s. Propriety, right, the appertaining of duties to individuals. உரிமை. 2. Relation, connexion, alliance, சம்பந்தம். 3. Duty, obligation, கடமை. 4. Quality, property, attribute, குணம். 5. Excellence, eminence, dignity, மாட்சிமை. 6. [in gram.] Possession, ownership, relation of one thing to another, as denoted by the possessive case or the local ablative. The relation is of two kinds; தற்கிழமை, that between a whole and its parts or attributes--as in தலைமயிர் and ஆட்டுக்கால்; and பிறிதின்கிழமை, that between different things--as in மலை யாடு, அவன்வீடு. 7. A day of the week, வாரத் திலொருநாள். 8. A week, வாரம். கிழமைபடவாழ். Live so as to be useful. கிழத்தி, s. A mistress, a lady, தலைவி. 2. A lady in an agricultural district, மரு தநிலத்தலைவி. 3. A woman who bolongs to or is peculiarly adapted to--as in காமக் கிழத்தி, சொல்லின்கிழத்தி, பாலைக்கிழத்தி, மனைக்கி ழத்தி. கிழமைக்குக்கிழமை. From week to week, weekly. கிழமைதோறும். Weekly, every week. கிழமைச்சூனியம், s. [in astrol.] An inauspicious, unpropitious day when the moon is in a nacshatra, unfavorable to that day of the week. கிழமைபிறந்தநாள், s. [in astrol.] The lunar day peculiarly related to a given day of the week; lit. the lunar day on which the day of the week is born. கிழமைவட்டம், s. A week. கிழவர், s. (pl. of கிழவன்.) Proprietors, relations, &c., உரியோர். See கிழவன் under கிழம், infra. ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை, s. Sunday. பெருங்கிழமை, s. Entire or sole right, absolute title, prerogative, முழுவுரிமை. 2. Being connected or related in all possible ways, close friendship, intimacy or familiarity, மிகுநேயம். 39)

kiẕmai (p. 111) --கிழம் s. Oldness, senility, decrepitude, old age, கிழத்தனம். இந்தமாடுமிகுந்தகிழம். This is a very old ox. கிழக்கதை, s. Old stories. 2. The chattering of old people, கிழவர்வார்த்தை. கிழக்குதிரை, s. An old horse. கிழக்கோலம். The appearance or marks of age. கிழடு, s. [vul.] An old thing, commonly said of animals, trees, and contemptuously of a person, வயதுமுதிர்ந்தது. கிழடன், s. An old man; an old chap, in contempt. கிழட்டுப்பசு, s. An old cow. கிழத்தனம், s. Old age; manners or habits of old people. கிழப்பிணம், s. An old fellow, in contempt; a living carcass. கிழமாடு, s. An old ox or cow. கிழவன், s. (pl. கிழவர்.) An old man, an aged man, மூப்புடையோன். 2. The second of the twenty-seven lunar asterisms or nacshatras, or the day during which the moon is in the nacshatra, பரணி. குடுகுடுகிழவன், s. A very old man. கிழவி, s. An old woman, மூப்புடைய வள். கிழவிக்கிழங்கு, s. [prov.] The previous year's root (esculent, &c.), old and useless; from which others have sprung, பழையகிழங்கு. கிழவிமஞ்சள், s. [prov.] old turmeric root of the previous year, பழமையான மஞ்சள். வன்கிழம்--வலுகிழம், s. A very old person, animal or thing, in contempt. 40)

kiẕlai (p. 111) s. [prov.] Quarter, part, region, திசை. 2. The lower or lee side of a vessel, the side on which the sail is hoisted, leeward, மரக்கலத்தின்சாய்வுப்பக்கம். இந்தக்கிழலையிலவனைக்காணவில்லை. He is not to be found hereabout. 41)

kiẕi (p. 111) s. A line--as drawn on the ground, paper, &c., கீற்று. 2. A shred, a piece torn off, கிழிந்ததுண்டு. 3. A strip of cloth tied round the waist of mendicants, a mendicant's girdle, கீளுடை. 4. A prize, reward, or treasure tied up in a cloth and exposed to public view to invite competition in any work of skill, நிதிப்்பொதி. 5. Ears of corn tied into a small bunch, or otherwise, and suspended in some conspicuous place of a temple as the first-fruit of the crop, புதிர்க் கிழி. 6. A picture, எழுதுபடம். கிழிகட்ட, inf. To hang up a prize, to lay down a reward. கிழிக்கட்டு, s. Prize, treasure, sacred ashes, &c., tied in a strip of cloth. உலவாக்கிழி, s. Inexhaustible treasure. (p.) கிழிதீட்ட, inf. To draw a picture. kiẕi (p. 111) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To part, to be slit, rent in shreds, or torn; to be parted --as land by ploughing, &c., துண்டாகக்கிழிய. 2. To part asunder, to separate, இரண்டாக க்கிழிய. 3. To be defeated, to be disappointed, to meet with ill success, to come to nothing, வாயாதுகெட. காரியங்கிழிந்துபோயிற்று--கிழிகிழிந்துபோயிற்று.... The affair is come to nothing. 2. He turns out to be nothing. அவர்கிழிந்தார். He is disconcerted; i.e. can do nothing. (Abusive.) கிழிந்துபோக, inf. To be rent or torn; to go in pieces. கிழிவு, v. noun. A rent, tear, laceration, கிழிதல். 2. Failure; incompetency, ill success, dwindling away, வாயாமை. (The word is sometimes synonymous with இழிவு.) கிழியல், v. noun. Tearing, கிழிவு. 2. s. A thing torn; a tattered garment, &c., கிழிந் தசீலை. 3. A good-for-nothing fellow; a spiritless sluggard--in contempt, பயனற் றவன். 48)

kiẕi (p. 111) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To tear, to rend, to split, to slit, to shred, to tear to pieces, to rip up, to lacerate, கிழியச்செய்ய. 2. To divide, to cleave. இர ண்டாகக்்கிழிக்க. 3. To scratch with claws, thorns, &c., கொளுவிக்கிழிக்க. 4. To mark or delineate by indentation or paint, கோடு முதலியகிழிக்க. அவனைக்கிழிகிழியென்றுகிழித்துவிட்டாள். she lacerated her with abuse. கடைவாயைப்பிடித்துக்கிழி. Tear the corner of his mouth. சிங்கத்தைக்கிழித்துப்போட்டான். He tore the lion in two. பேய்கிழித்தவாயன். A man with a large mouth, one who reveals secrets; a babbler. பேய்கிழித்தவாயாற்பேசிவிட்டேனே. Alas, I unwittingly revealed the matter. அவர்கிழிக்கிறதைப்பார்ப்போம். We will see whether he does it or not. (Low usage.) கிழித்துப்போட, inf. To tear, to pull or rend in pieces, to lacerate. கிழித்துமுடைந்தபாய், s. A mended mat. கிழிப்பு, v. noun. Rending, tearing, ripping, கிழிக்கை. கிழிமுறி, s. A mutilated indenture, bond, &c. 49)
