iruttu (p. 50) கிறேன், இருத்தினேன், வேன், இருத்த, v. a. To cause to sit, to seat, உட்காரச்செய்ய. 2. To detain, cause one to remain for a short time, தாமதிக்கச்செய்ய. 3. To press down or upon, bear upon, press with a style or other instrument, அழுத்த. 4. To beat down--as a floor, beat into-as a nail, to make firm or compact by beating, அடித்திருத்த. 5. iṟkku (p. 57) கிறேன், இறக்கினேன், வேன், இறக்க, v. a. To lower, let or hand down; put down--a load, &c., தாழ்த்த. 2. To land a person or thing, கரைக்கிறக்க. 3. To unburden the mind, relieve one's self or another of a heavy care, கவலையொழிக்க. 4. To reduce, bring down, கீழ்ப்படுத்த. அவனுடையகொழுப்பிறக்கிப்போடுவேன். I will bring down his fat; i. e. his pride. விஷத்தையிறக்கினான். He has subdued, or counteracted the effect of, the poison. ஒருதரத்திலேயிறக்கிப்போடு. Take it all down at once. இறக்குதுறை. A place of debarkation. இறக்குமதி, s. Importation, goods imported, இறக்குஞ்சரக்கு. சரக்கிறக்க, inf. To unload, to discharge cargo, unlade goods. பித்தமிறக்க, inf. To reduce bile in the system; hence to cure derangement, or any bilious affection. சாராயமிறக்க, inf. To distil liquors. மரக்கலமிறக்க, inf. To launch a vessel. தைலமிறக்க, inf. To distil. சுமையிறக்க, inf. To disburden. உள்ளேயிறக்க, inf. To swallow in small quantities--chiefly applicable to liquids. இறக்கு, v. noun. A letting down, unburdening, discharging, இறக்குகை. 2)

iṟngku (p. 57) கிறேன், இறங்கினேன், வேன், இறங்க, v. n. To descend, pass down a declivity or ladder, sink lower; to get down a tree, a precipice, &c.; to step down, alight from a horse, &c.; to crawl down, சரிய. 2. To descend voluntarily--as a bird, தாழலிறங்க. 3. To descend by degrees through air, water, or any other resisting medium--as leaves or other light substances; to fall or sink gradually or slowly; to fall--as rain; to flow down--as a torrent; to fall--as grain from the ear, மழைமுதலிய வையிறங்க. 4. To disembark, get out of a boat, or from one boat into another of smaller size, கப்பலினின்றிறங்க. 5. To be taken down, unladed, unladen, disburdened, சாமானிறங்க. 6. To fall or sink into the appropriate place--as a post into its hole, to be driven home--as a nail, உள்ளிறங்க. 7. To sink--as a denser body, to settle to the bottom--as earth in water, water in oil, &c., அமிழ. 8. To arrive at a place other than one's home, to pitch, alight, encamp --as an army. to halt, பாளயமிறங்க. 9. To get into the right road, நேர்வழியிலிறங்க. 1. To be brought down or reduced, தாழ்வடைய. 11. To abate--as fever commencing with the head and descending to the extremities, சுரமிறங்க. 12. To become reduced, or to descend--as bile in the system (which rising to the brain is supposed to cause mental derangement); hence to be cured of mental aberration, பித்தமிறங்க. 13. To subside--as animal poison in the system (which is supposed to descend from the head to the extremities), விடமிறங்க. கபாலநீர்கண்ணிலேயிறங்குகிறது. The humors of the head have descended into the eyes, causing cataract, depriving the person of sight, &c. ஒருதுறையிலிறங்கிவிட்டான். He has found a resting place; his mind is settled. இறங்காத்துறை, s. A place not convenient or proper for landing, or lodging. 2. (fig.) An improper marriage, connection, &c. இறங்குதுறை, s. A place of debarkation. 2. (fig.) Means, ways for effecting a thing, வழிவகை. இறங்குபொழுது, s. The time of sunset, சாய்பொழுது. இறங்குபொழுதிலேமருந்துகுடி. Take medicine when the sun declines; implying that the disease will thereby decline. இறங்குமிராசி, s. The six signs through which the sun passes in its southern course, சூரியனிறங்குமாறிராசிகள். இறக்கம், v. noun. Descending-as of food into the stomach; descent of a bird, a stream; debarkation from a boat, going down a ladder, &c., இறங்கு கை. 2. A descent, declivity, slope, declination, சரிவு. 3. A ford, இறங்குதுறை. 4. The drying up of the pustules in the small pox, measles and other similar diseases--so applied because it is supposed to begin at the head and to descend, அம்மைமுதலியவிறக்கம். 5. Paths and tracks of beasts in a jungle, மிருகங்கள் செல்வழி. நோயாளிக்குச்சோற்றிறக்கமில்லை. The patient is unable to swallow his food. இறக்கத்திலிருக்க, inf. To be in a low place, to be below. அவன்காரியம்இறக்கத்திலிருக்கிறது. His business is on the decline. இறங்கல், v. noun. The swelling of the glandula by an excess of wind, &c., அண்டமிறங்கல். 2. The subsiding of swelling, &c. from the head to the extremities, விக்கமிறங்கல். இறவு, v. noun. Lapse, passage, a place of descent, செல்கை. 5)

uku (p. 59) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், உக, v. n. To be shaken off, to fall or drop off--as fruits, &c.; to shed feathers, hair; to become separated; to cast off as the nails, &c., உதிர. 2. To be strewed, scattered, poured out, &c., சிந்த. 3. To trickle or fall down--as rain or tears, சொரிய. 4. To be divested of, liberated from, கழல. (p.) நெஞ்சுகவாய்மலரன்னகண்ணீர்மல்க. The heart fainting and the lotus-flower like eyes shedding tears. மஞ்சுகவார்த்தன. The (bells) sounded so loud as to cause the clouds to fall. உள்ளமுடைந்துக்கக்கால். If the heart be broken and utterly fail. (குறள்.) உயிருக. The soul departing. உடுத்திரளுதிர்ந்தெனவுகுவதந்தமே. Teeth scattered as if multitudes of stars had fallen. அங்கணத்துளுக்கவமிழ்து. Delicious food scattered in the mud. (குறள்.) 7)

uḷ (p. 67) s. The inside, the interior, that which is intrinsic, private, secret, esoteric, உள்ளிடம், 2. Mind, heart, soul, breast, உள்ளம். 3. Place, இடம். 4. As a nominal affix or postposition, it governs the dative and expresses in, within, among, of, out of, inner, interior, intrinsic, esoteric, ஏழ னுருபு. உள்ளிருந்தார்க்குத்தெரியுமுள்வருத்தம். Those of the household only are acquainted with its secret sorrows. உட்கரணம், s. The intellectual faculties. See இந்திரியம் and கரணம். உட்கருத்து, s. The inmost thought, the real purpose or motive, அகக்கருத்து. 2. Cordial affection, உட்பட்சம். 3. The intrinsic meaning of a passage, &c., கருத்துரை. உட்கருத்தாகப்பேச, inf. To speak with reservation. உட்களவு, s. Guile, deceit, treacherousness, insidiousness, உள்வஞ்சகம். உட்கள்ளம், s. Deep-seated viciousness, dissimulation, உள்வஞ்சகம். 2. Internal, or unsubdued disease, hidden humor or matter--as in a boil, கட்டியினுள் விஷம். உட்காங்கை, s. Caloric, latent heat, உட்சூடு. உட்காந்த, inf. To have internal heat causing emaciation; [ex காந்து.] உட்காய்ச்சல், s. Internal fever, அகச்சுரம். 2. Inward anger, rancor, malice, &c., உள்ளெரிப்பு. உட்கிராந்த, inf. To become emaciated by disease or otherwise. 2. To be firmly rooted--as disease. உட்குத்துப்புறவீச்சு, s. A species of hepatic complaint attended with convulsions, ஓர்நோய். உட்குயிர், s. The Deity regarded as the life, or identified with the life or soul of each individual, உள்ளுயிர். உட்குறிப்பு, s. Aim, object, intention, உள்ளக்குறிப்பு. உட்குற்றம், s. Innate depravity. See உட்பகை. உட்கூதல், s. Internal cold, chill, slight fever. உட்கை, s. Palm of the hand, உள்ளங்கை. 2. A person who is privy to, a secret hand--as in உள்ளுளவு. 3. Turning to the left in dancing or other movements, இடக்கைச்சுற்று. உட்கைச்சுற்று, s. Turning to the left, winding or turning back wards, or contrary to the sun. உட்கொள்ள, inf. To eat as a god, or great personage, உண்ண. 2. To take food that has been consecrated to a deity, தேவப்பிரசாதமுட்கொள்ள. 3. To take food, medicine, to swallow, take in, imbibeas the earth does the rain, &c., விழுங்க. 4. To receive into the mind, meditate, or reflect upon, மனதிற்கொள்ள. 5. To wish for an occurrence, or to express desires mentally--as a deity or holy sage (the thing desired instantly talking place), திருவுளங்கொள்ள. 6. To have a secret object in view, to have in view, உட்கருத. உட்கோபம், s. Interior anger, malice. உட்கோள், s. The will, determination, internal, or inmost thought, உட்கருத்து. 2. Wish of the heart. 3. Opinion, belief, tenet, கோட்பாடு. உட்சங்கம், s. A select society, a committee, அகச்சங்கம். உட்சட்டை, s. An inner vest or tunic. உட்சமயம், s. The six religious systems of the followers of Siva, அகச் சமயம். உட்சாடை, s. The real object of an affair, the real feeling of the heart, உட்கருத்து. 2. Exposure of secrets by one of a party by signs, இரகசியங்களைச்ச மிக்கையாலறிவிக்கை. 3. The meaning, thing, &c., told or known to one's own party and differing from that which is made known to others, குழூஉக்குறி. உட்சீலை, s. An under or inner cloth. 2. The lining of a garment. உட்சவர், s. An inner wall, அகச் சுவர். 2. The interior of a wall, சுவரி னிடை. உட்சுவரிருக்கப்புறச்சுவர்தீற்றுகிறது. To whitewash the outside wall while neglecting the inside; i. e. to be scrupulously exact in external conduct, while the heart is full of wickedness; to attend to things remote while those at hand are neglected. உட்சூத்திரம், s. The main spring in a machine, any internal power or operation concealed from view, மூலசூத் திரம். 2. A clue, or key to an affair, உள்ளுபாயம். 3. The main spring in a business, மூலகாரணம். 4. A skilfully contrived rule in numbers, &c., நுட்பமான வகை. 5. A short, compendious and subtle method of ascertaining, or effecting a thing, இலேசானவகை. 6. (fig.) Internal meaning of a passage, real object in view, உட்குறிப்பு. உட்செல்ல, inf. To enter, insinuate one's self, உள்ளேபோக. உட்டுளை, s. Hollowness--as of a pipe or tube. உட்டுளைப்பொருள், s. Any thing tubular. உட்டெளிவு, s. Cleverness of mind, freedom from doubt, profound knowledge, அகத்தெளிவு. 2. The clear part of the liquid--as poured off from the sediment, வடித்தசாறு. 3. Soundness--as in timber, &c., உள்வைரம். 4. Inner measurment. உட்டேட்டம், s. The secret object or pursuit, as differing from profession, or appearances, மனநாட்டம். 2. Property acquired and kept secretly, உட்சம்பத்து. உட்பகை, s. Internal enmity, hatred or grudge, rancor at heart with professions of friendship. 2. Internal, innate, or secret foes attached to the soul, causing actions, &c., காமாதிக்குற்றங் கள். (For the six உட்பகை, see பகை.) 3. Hatred of a king by his professed friends, civil conspiracy, அரசருட்பகை. எட்பகவன்சிறுமைத்தேயாயினுமுட்பகையுள்ள தாங்கேடு. Though the internal hatred be as the fragment of a grain of rape seed, the consequent evil may be very great. உட்பக்கம், s. Subject of investigation or deduction in things of a mental, mystic, or spiritual character. See பக்கம். உட்பட, inf. To enter, be within, or under--as in age, உள்ளாக. 2. To engage in, be concerned in, to be, or become one of a party, or community; to be involved in, to be subject to, to yield to, to be obedient to, உடன்பட. 3. adv. Together with, inclusive. மூன்றுவயதுக்குட்பட்டபிள்ளை. A child under three years of age. அதுட்பட. That inclusive. மோசத்துக்குட்பட, inf. To fall into danger. உட்படி, s. A make-weight, உட்ப டிக்கல். உட்படுத்த, inf. To cause to enter, to introduce, அகப்படுத்த. 2. To persuade, proselyte, bring one into, or over to one's party, மதத்துக்குள்ளாக்க. 3. To include, involve, entrap, ensnare, சிக்கப்பண்ண. உட்பத்தியம், s. Abstinence from venery as a regimen while taking medicine, &c.; sometimes அகப்பத்தியம். உட்பந்தி, s. The chief row or table of guests, அகப்பந்தி. உட்பலம், s. Property at command, திரவியபலம். 2. Friends, assistants, attendants, &c., துணைவர்பலம். 3. Forces, army, army in reserve, சேனாபலம். 4. Strength, firmness of body, hardness, strength from food, தேகபலம். உட்பற்று, s. Internal attachment, affections of the heart, &c. See அகப்பற்று. உட்பிரவேசம், s. Entrance. உட்பிரவேசிக்க, inf. To enter, உள்ளேபோக, உட்புக.--Note. This and the preceding word are in use, but not, it is thought, on good authority. உட்புக, inf. To enter, engage in. உட்புகுந்துபேச, inf. To make professions of friendship, kindness, concern, &c. உட்புரை, s. The hollow of a tube or pipe, உட்டுளை. 2. The small folds of a garment, உள்மடிப்பு. 3. (fig.) The secret of the matter, internal affair, அந்தரங்கம். உட்புறம், s. The inside, உட்பக்கம். உட்பொருள்--உள்ளர்த்தம், s. The real meaning, தாற்பரியம். 2. The hidden, or secret meaning, உட்கருத்து. சாஸ்திரத்தினுட்பொருள், s. The occult sense of a doctrine. உட்போட, inf. To coax, to wheedle, வசமாக்க. உண்ணா--உண்ணாக்கு, s. The uvula, அண்ணம்; [ex நா, tongue.] உண்ணாட்டம், s. The real or secret object of pursuit, உண்ணோக்கம். உண்ணீரம், s. The moisture within a body or thing; [ex உள், et நீரம்.] உண்ணோக்கல், v. noun. Contemplation. உண்மடை, s. The lower opening of a water-course. 2. Oblations, or offerings of fruits, betel, rice, pastries presented to ferocious deities, inside the temple, அகமடை. See மடை. உண்மட்டைநார், s. [prov.] The bark of the inner side of the palmyra stem, being the best for use. உண்மாசு, s. Corruption of mind-as உபமலம். உண்முடிச்சு, s. Treachery by which one inveigles another, (lit.) an inner knot, உட்கள்ளம். உள்யோசனை, s. Secret object, project, intention, &c., உள்ளாலோசனை. உள்வட்டம், s. Agio, premium in exchange of coins or other money for difference in value. (opp. to வட்டம்.) உள்வணக்கம், s. Mental worship, அகவணக்கம். உள்வயிரம், s. Interior firmness. 2. Malice, internal hatred. See வயிரம். உள்வயிரிப்பு, s. Internal hardness of a boil, &c., உள்வயிரம். 2. (fig.) [prov.] Property possessed, money in hand, கையிருப்பு. உள்வலிப்பு, v. noun. Prosper in the society of your fellow citizens. ஊரோடேபோய்ச்சேர்ந்தான். He arrived at home. ஊரன், s. The chief of an agricultural district, மருதத்தலைவன். (p.) ஊரவர்கள்--ஊரார், s. Inhabitants of a village, town, country, &c. 2. Others, strangers, not one's own people, அன்னியர்.--Used adjectively, the ர் is often dropped--as ஊராகாரியம், others' affairs; ஊராசொத்து, others' property; ஊ ராகாணி, others' land. ஊராருடைமைக்குப்பேராசைகொள்ளுதல்..... Coveting other men's property-துஷ்டப்பிள்ளைக்குஊரார்புத்திசொல்லுவார்கள்... An unruly child will be chastized by the magistrates. ஊரார்கையிற்கொடுக்க, inf. To deliver into another man's hand. ஊராளி, s. The ruler, magistrate, or headman of a district, ஊரதிகாரி. ஊரிலிகம்பலை, s. [prop. ஊர்கலி கம்பலை.] A village quarrel, tumult, &c. ஊரின்னிசை, s. A poem concerning the heroes of a town, or country, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். See பிரபந்தம். ஊருக்குப்போக, inf. To go to a town, to go on a journey. ஊருணி, s. A public tank accessible to all in the town, ஊரடுத்தகுளம். ஊருணிநீர்நிறைந்தற்றேயுலகவாம்பேரறிவாளன் றிரு. The wealth of one possessing great wisdom, and who is much liked by the public is like a tank filled with water to which all have access. ஊரெழுச்சி, s. Rising of citizens to present complaints to the authorities; also insurrection, ஊர்க்கலகம். ஊர்கூடுதல், v. noun. Assembling --as citizens. ஊர்கூடிச்செக்குத்தள்ளவேண்டுமா? Is it necessary that the whole city come together to turn the oilman's press? i. e. a trifling matter does not require a concourse of people. ஊர்கோலம்வர--ஊர்வலம்வர, inf. To pass about as a nuptial procession, first to the right as being auspicious, கிராமப்பிரதட்சணம்வர. ஊர்க்கதை, s. Rumor, countrytalk, ஊர்ப்பேச்சு. 2. Unfounded reports, slander, defamation, பொய்ச்செய்தி. 3. A wild, romantic story, வீண்செய்தி. ஊர்க்கலகம், s. A village quarrel, ஊரிலுண்டாகுங்கலகம். 2. Though a sparrow soars high, will it become a kite? ஊர்க்கொள்ளை, s. Devastation by an invading army. 2. Extortion by a headman, &c. 3. Epidemic, or other public calamities, ஊழிநோய். ஊர்த்தலைமை, s. A poem in the நேரிசைவெண்பா incorporated with the name of the hero's town, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். ஊர்ப்பகை, s. Public hatred, general dislike. 2. Hatred of one's own country. ஊருடன்பகைக்கில்வேருடன்கெடும். One who lives contentiously with his fellow citizens shall be rooted out. (ஔவை.) ஊர்ப்பழி, s. Public censure, or blame, ஊர்நிந்தை. ஊர்ப்பாடு, s. Others' affairs-spoken of one inattentive to his own, அன்னியருடையகாரியம். ஊர்ப்புகைச்சல், s. The appearance of smoke at a distance--regarded as a calamitous omen. 2. Countrytalk, rumor, groundless report. ஊர்ப்புரட்டு, s. A great conspiracy, a monstrous fabrication of falsehood, in which one leads and takes others with him. 2. A gross falsehood. ஊர்ப்புரளி, s. Sedition, insurrection, a general commotion, ஊர்க்கலகம். ஊர்மனை, s. Habitations, a place inhabited as distinguished from a desert. ஊர்மன்று, s. A public hall, ஊரம் பலம். ஊர்வெண்பா, s. To drop a little water on plants, &c. குத்துவலி--குத்துக்குடைச்சல், v. noun. Throbbing or pinching pain, stitches. குத்திப்பேச, inf. To make a cutting remark. குத்தியள்ள, inf. To take up grain, &c., by thrusting the hands in perpendicularly. குத்தல், v. noun. Puncturing, pricking --as one of the eight kinds of impressions perceived by the sense of feeling. 2. Ramming; thrusting, stabbing, &c. குத்தார்க்கு, s. [local.] Withe, cord, &c., inserted in the hole of a குத்தூசி needle. குத்து, v. noun. Pounding in a mortar, உரலிற்குத்துகை. 2. A blow with the fist, a cuff, a buffet, a box, கைக்குத்து. 3. A thrust, a stab; a puncture, a prick, an incision, a goading, ஈட்டிமுதலியவற்றாற்கு த்துகை. 4. The peck of a stork, மூக்கினாற்கு த்துகை. 5. An acute, throbbing, twinging pain, ஓர்நோய். 6. A dot, a point, a tittle; a spot--commonly with a pointed instrument, புள்ளி. 7. A double handful of grain, &c., the hands being thrust in perpendicularly. 8. [prov.] A handful, ஓர் கையளவு. 9. Perpendicularity, steepness--as in செங்குத்து. குத்துண்டுபோவாய்--குத்துண்பாய். May you be stabbed--an imprecation. ஒருகுத்துச்சோறு. A double handful of boiled rice, with the hands thrust in perpendicularly. குத்துமி, s. Husk--as separated from rice by pounding. குத்துவெட்டு, s. Stabbing and maiming. --either in scuffles, robbery or war. 2. Dots and strokes--as erasures, பிழைபட் டதைக்கிறுக்கித்தள்ளல். குத்துப்பாடு, v. noun. Censuring or charging one with a fault; violent contention; lit. piercing, retortion. அந்தவேலைமேற்குத்துப்பாடுசொல்லுகிறான். He finds fault with the work. குத்துக்காயம், s. A wound by a stab; a stab. அடப்புக்குத்து, s. [prov.] Stabbing in the ribs, விலாக்குத்து. தலைக்குத்து--மண்டைக்குத்து, s. Piercing pain in the head; head-ache. முலைக்குத்து, s. Piercing pain in the breast. முலைக்குத்தைஅறியுமாசவலைப்பிள்ளை. Does the babe know the mother's breast-ache? குத்துண்ண, inf. To be beaten, pierced, stabbed, &c. குத்துப்பட. குத்துணி, s. One stabbed, குத்துண்ட வன். 2. A mean, vagabond, shameless fellow. குத்துப்பட்டுவிழ, inf. To fall, or drop down pierced. குத்துக்குநிற்க, inf. To stand on points, each urging his own reasons; to contend, to oppose-as rivals. 2. To haggle in dealing. குத்துகால்-குத்துக்கால், s. The uprights of a frame-as of a car; a piece of furniture, support, தாங்குகால். குத்துக்காலிட, inf. To sit or lie with bent legs; [ex குந்து.] குத்துக்கால்நாட்ட, inf. To fix or plant the uprights. குத்தாய்நிற்கிறமலை, s. A mountain standing perpendicularly. குத்துவிளக்கு, s. Standing lamp, a brass candlestick. குத்துக்கல்-குத்்தாங்கல், s. A perpendicular stone. குத்துக்கல்லாய்வைக்க, inf. To build with bricks set upon the edge. குத்துக்குளம்பு, s. The hoof of oxen, horse, &c., falling perpendicularly, not spreading-regarded as a good species for speed. குத்துப்பாறை, s. Small, perpendicular heaps of stones in the vicinity of a rock. 2. [local.] The horizontal part of a rock where women pound paddy. குத்துப்போர், s. The first layer of sheaves of corn in a stack, placed with the ears uppermost, நிறுத்திட்டமாய் வைக்குஞ் சூடு. 2. A collection of twenty, a score--as of precious stones. &c., இருபது. 5. One of the five parts of a crown--as கோடகம், முடி யுறுப்பு. கோடிமுடிய, inf. cāṇ (p. 174) s. A span of twelve fingers' breadth, or form the end of the thumb to the end of the little finger extended, ஓரளவு. (c.) சாண்கும்பி--சாண்வயிறு, s. The abdomen a span long. சாண்வயிற்றுக்குப்பாடுபட, inf. To labor for the cravings of the belly a span long. சாண்வயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. To get a mere livelihood, (lit.) to nourish a span of belly. சாண்சீலை, s. [loc.] The fore-lap, the cloth covering the privy parts. சாணளப்பான்--சாணளந்தான்பூச்சி, s. A kind of insect that moves forward by its head and tail, measuring its length at every movement. சாணேற முழஞ்சறுக்க. To climb a span up and slide a cubit down--spoken of slight advance, profit, &c., followed by great decrease. சாணோவயிறு சரீரமெல்லாம்வயிறோ. Is his belly a span long, or is he all belly-spoken of one who supports himself dishonorably. எறும்புந்தன்கையாலெண்சாண். One who has learned thoroughly. சோர்வாய்ப்போக, inf. To be lost, to disappear. சோர்வில்லாமுயற்சி, s. Indefatigable energy and application. சோர்வுபார்க்க, inf.
