aṭi (p. 8) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To beat, lash, smite, scourge, stamp, blow or beat as wind, வீச. 2. To defeat, overcome, wash away, carry away as waves, flowing water, &c., to flap, (as with wings) மோத. 3. [vul.] To kill, slay, slaughter, கொல்ல. 4. To fasten, make firm, drive in, அறைய. 5. To act with force and energy, make thorough work of, முயற் சியுடன்செய்ய. 6. v. n. To emit as a scent, வாசனையடிக்க--Note. This word joined to other verbs increases their intensity, as, மழையடித்துப்பெய்கிறது, It rains very hard. பேச்சிலேயடித்துவிட்டான், He confuted by argument,--spoke with fluency and overwhelming eloquence. அடித்துச்சொல்லிக்கொண் டுபோ, Speak fast, forcibly, fluently, &c. Added to neuter infinitives, it makes them active, as, சிதறடிக்க, to disperse. அடிகாற்று, s. [prov.] A very powerful wind, a strong gale, a tempest. அடித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To beat one's self. அவனுக்கு அதிஷ்டம் அடிக்கிறது. Good fortune abounds to him. 4)

atiṣṭam (p. 11) --அதிட்டம், s. Luck good or bad, (commonly good) fortune, propitious events happening as the fruit of actions performed in previous births, நல்வினைப்பயன்; ex திஷ்டம். Wils. p. 2. tṇṭikai (p. 222) s. A superior kind of palankeep, hanging on silk ropes, and open on all sides, with a canopy; used on state occassions, சிவிகை, (c.) தண்டிகையேறஅதிஷ்டமுண்டாகும். He will have the fortune to ride in a தண்டிகை; (an astrological prediction.) தண்டிகைகொடுக்க, inf. To give permission to ride in such a palankeen; anciently as special royal gift. தண்டிகைக்கொம்பு, s. The bent bambu-pole of the above palankeen. 68)

nlm (p. 270) s. A good, a benefit; efficacy, virtue, goodness--oppos. to இளப்பம், நன் மை. 2. Beauty, fairness, handsomeness, அழகு. 3. Welfare, advantage, profit, utility, பயன். 4. Testicle of a bull or buffalo, விலங்கின்விதை. 8. Exellence, உயர்வு. 9. Dried ginger. சுக்கு. நலச்சூடு, s. Brand on a beast. நலஞ்சுட, inf. To geld a bull and brand the lacerated part. நலந்தட்ட--நலமெடுக்க--நலம்அடிக்கநலம்நசுக்க, inf. To castrate in the Indian mode by mashing the testicles; to geld, emasculate. நலப்பாடு, v. noun. [prov.] Goodness, excellence, நன்மை. 2. Advantage, profit, ஆதாயம். 3. Good fortune, அதிஷ்டம். நலப்புண், s. Sore of the brand, on a beast's testicles. நலமாய்வாங்க, inf. To buy cheap, நலமாய்க்கொள்ள. 2. To get back what is lent, &c., without difficulty. நலமானகாலம், s. A time of utility, profit, expedience. நலமிளப்பம், s. Good and evil, whether natural or moral. நலம்பொலம், s. Good and evil. pkṭai (p. 286) s. An ace upon a die, சூதி ன்றாயத்தில்ஒன்று. 2. A designation of the shoe-maker-caste, சக்கிலிச்சாதி. (Tel. usage.) 3. [prov. fig.] Sudden smiles of fortune, அதிஷ்டம். பகடைதப்பிற்று. It was narrow escape. பகடைபோட--பகடைஉருட்ட, inf. To cast an ace in dice. பகடையடிக்க, inf. To have lucky falls of dice, or smiles of fortune. 11)

pākkiyam (p. 306) s. Destiny, fate, allotment; what is destined or apportioned as the result of former actions, அதிஷ்டம். W. p. 616. B'HAGYA. 2. Fortune, felicity; prosperous circumstances, செல்வம். 3. Riches, wealth, தனம். 4. Boon, blessing, privilege, பேறு. 5. Any of the eight superhuman powers ascribed to Siva, &c. சித்தி. பாக்கியசாலி, s. A fortunate or happy person; a blessed person. பாக்கியஞ் செய்ய--பாக்கியம்பண்ண, inf. To perform actions which bring happiness; commonly spoken of enjoyment in the present birth from former merit. பாக்கியஸ்தானம், s. The eleventh sign from the rising one at the time of one's birth. See தானம் 12. பாக்கியம்பலிக்க, inf. To result in good fortune. பாக்கியம்பெற, inf. To be fortunate. பாக்கியலட்சுமி, s. Lakshmi. See தன லட்சுமி. பாக்கியவசம், s. The power or influence, of good destiny. பாக்கியவதி, s. A fortunate or rich female. பாக்கியவந்தன், s. As பாக்கியவான். பாக்கியவான்--பாக்கியன், s. A fortunate, lucky or wealthy man, செல்வன். பாக்கியவீனம், s. Misfortune, ill-luck, unhappiness. பாக்கியானுகூலம், s. The attainment of riches, செல்வப்பேறு. 11)

puci (p. 322) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [vul. பொசி.] To eat, to feed, to take food, உண்ண. 2. [fig.] To experience the fruits of actions, as the soul in its births, வினைப் பயனனுபவிக்க; [ex B'HUJA. W. p. 621.] புசிப்பன, appel. n. Eatables, உண்பன. புசிப்பு,v. noun. Eating, feeding, taking food, உண்ணுகை. 2. Food, meat, உணவு. 3. Experiencing the fruits of former actions, அனுபவிக்கை. 4. Good fortune or destiny, அதிஷ்டம். 5. Enjoyment of any good by destiny though against right, ஊழாலனுபவிக்கை. புசிப்பாளி, s. A lucky person, one who has happiness by virtue of former deeds, அனுபோகி. புசிப்புக்குச்சாதனமானகருவிகள், s. Members and faculties of body and mind, as adapted to experience the fruits of former actions. See சாதனம். 25)

pūcciyam (p. 329) s. Venerableness, that which is worthy of worship, மேன்மை. 2. Honor, reputation, கீர்த்தி. 3. Ostentation, display, ஆடம்பரம். W. p. 548. POOJYA. 4. Emptiness, or scantiness, as an auspicious term in denying a thing asked, இன் மை. 5. A concealment of one's poverty or defects, and assuming appearances, குற்றமறைக்கை. 6. [in astron.] A cipher in calculation, as standing in the place of a real number, but of no value. Thus sixty-three divided by seven, the quotient is nine, and பூச்சியம். 7. Blank in lotteries, திருவுளச்சீட்டின்தோற்பு. 8. [in calendar.] That which is unlucky or unpropitiousness, அதிஷ்டமின்மை. 9. Rareness, uncommonness, அருமை. சாப்பாட்டுக்குப்பூச்சியமாயிருக்கிறது. There is nothing to live upon. வேலைபூச்சியம். Want of work or employ. பூச்சியம்பண்ண, inf. To venerate, to esteem. 2. To conceal one's poverty, or defects. 3. To manage so as to get undeserved regard. 4. To make an old house or thing appear like new. பூச்சியவார்த்தை, s. An expression of respect, or a compliment, உபசாரச்சொல். பூச்சியன், s. One deserving respect, பூசிக்கப்படுவோன். 2. [prov.] A dark bull, grey and white, கறுப்பும்வெள்ளையுமான மாடு. 28)
