akẕu (p. 2) -அகழ், கிறேன், அகழ்ந்தேன், வேன், அகழ, v. a. To dig out, excavate a well or ditch, form a hole as a rat, &c., தோண்ட. 2. To dig, turn up the earth, plough, உழ. (p.) அகழ்வாரைத் தாங்குநிலம்போல, &c. [குறள்.] as the ground which supports the ploughmen. அகழான்--அகழெலி, s. A large kind of field-rat. அகழானெடுத்தல், s. v. Burrowing and casting out the earth, as rats. 49)

aṭai (p. 8) s. Resort, attaining to, அ டுத்தல். 2. A kind of cake, wafer, ஓர்பணிகா ரம். 3. Cake or bread in general அப்பவருக் கம். 4. Incubation, அவயம். 5. A leaf, இலை. 6. Gravity, weight, கனம். 7. A pledge, கொதுவை. 1. Tribute, the king's proportion of the produce of the land whether one-sixth or one-tenth, or otherwise, நிலவிறை. (c.) அடைகாக்க--அடைகிடக்க, inf. To sit on eggs, incubate. அடைகாய், s. Betel and areca nut. அடைகொடுக்க, inf. To render the kings's share of the produce. அடைகோழி, s. A hen that sits on eggs. அடைக்காய், s. Areca nut. அடைக்குத்தகை, s. [prov.] Revenue from grain as farmed out by government. அடைச்சீட்டு, s. [prov.] Receipt for the payment of tithe or tax. அடைப்பை, s. A betel pouch, வெற் றிலைப்பை. அடைப்பைக்காரன், s. The servant who carries the betel pouch, &c. of a great person. அடையடுத்தவாகுபெயர், s. A species of metonymy, as, மருக்கொழுந்துநட் டான், he planted a twig of the absinthium, that is, the plant itself. 19)

A steep hill, a precipitous height. உச்சிமோக்க, inf. To smell the crown of the head of young children-as parents often do through fondness, நடுத்தலையைமோக்க. உச்சிவிடுதி, s. utāttam (p. 60) s. [in rhetoric.] A figure which expresses copiousness, richness, enterprise, &c., ஓரலங்காரம். (See அலங்காரம்.) 2. The acute accent in chanting the Vedas, எடுத்தலோசை. Wils. p. 147. UDATTA. 8) *

um (p. 63) . A connective particle variously used, ஓரிடைச்சொல். 1. எதிர்மறையும்மை, the use of உம் with an affirmative, or negative expressing probability, possibility, &c., and implying the possibility, &c., of the contrary--as, சாத்தன்வருதற்குமுரியன், Sattan may perhaps come; அவன்வரவுங்கூடும், It is possible that he may come. 2. சிறப்பும்மை, the உம் of speciality, including உயர்வுசிறப் பும்மை, or superiority and இழிவுசிறப்பும்மை, or inferiority--as, ஞானிகளுமறியார்கள்சித்திரநதிமூல ம், Even the sages are unacquainted with the source of the சித்திரம் river; இவ்வூர்ப்பூனை யும்புலாறின்னாது, Even the cats of this place will not eat flesh (so sacred is it, so vile is the practice); பார்ப்பானுங்கள்ளுண்டான், Even a Brahman has been drinking toddy; இவனைநாயுந்தேடாது, Even a dog will not regard him. 3. ஐயவும்மை, the உம் in doubt, uncertainty, indecision, equivocal forms, probability, possibility--as, அவர்பத்தாயினுந் தருவார்பதினைந்தாயினுந்தருவார், Perhaps he may give ten or he may give fifteen; மழை பெய்தாலும்பெய்யும், It may perhaps rain; பத் தானுமெட்டானுங்கொடு, Give ten, or eight, ten would be preferred, but eight may do; வரினும்வருவான், It is probable that he may come. The உம் is often suppressed. 4. எச்சவும்மை, இறந்ததுதழீஇயவெச்சவும்மை, எதிரதுதழீ இயவெச்சவும்மை, the use of உம் implying another person, thing, or event, understood, and meaning likewise, too, even--as, அவனும் வந்தான், He also is come (implying that another is come or expected); நாம்பாடவும் வேண்டும், We must sing also (as well as dance, &c.); கேட்டும்படிக்கவேண்டும், By inquiry also we must learn (as well as by other means). 5. முற்றும்பை, indicating the whole of a number or series, universality, totality--as, ஒருவருக்குமையமில்லை, None can doubt; எங்குமில்லை, no where; இருகண்ணுஞ் சிவந்தன, both eyes reddened; எவ்விடமும், every where; இரண்டையுங்கொண்டுவா, Bring them both; எல்லாரும், எவரும், ஆரும்வந்தார், all, whoever, &c. came; மிகுந்தநாலுபணத்தை யுந்தா, Give me the remaining four fanams; மூவரும், all the three persons. 6. எண்ணும் மை, a numeral connective, corresponding with, and commonly repeated with each word of the series; நீயுமவனும்வந்தீர்கள், You and he came. The particle is sometimes joined to the last only--as, சாத்தன், கொற்றன், பூதனும் வந்தார்கள், Sattan, Kottan and Poodan came. Sometimes it is wholly omitted, and a pronoun including the series used instead--as, சாத்தன்கொற்றன்இவர்கள்வந்தார்கள். Sometimes the last noun in the series is used in the plural--as, சாத்தகோற்றவர்வந்தார்கள். 7. தெரிநிலையும்மை, the உம் of ascertainment, clear perception, or decision, used of three or more things concerning which doubt has been entertained, but which is now cleared up--as, ஆணுமன்றுபெண்ணுமன்று, It is neither male nor female (but in hermaphrodite); அவருண்பதுசோறுமல்ல, பணிகாரமுமல் ல, சாகமூலபலாதிகள், His food is neither rice nor cakes, but leaves, roots and fruits, &c. 8. ஆக்கவும்மை, உம் expressive of a change of state--as, பாலுமாயிற்று, This milk became medicine also; வலியனுமாயினான், He has become even a strong man. The above eight are given in நன்னூல். 9. உம் joined to an infinitive implies விரைவு, the immediate occurrence of the event--as, துரைகட்டளையிடவுங்காரியஞ்செய்துமுடிந்தது, As soon as the magistrate gave the order, the thing was done; அவர்சொல்லவுமுலகங்களுண் டாம், As soon as he speaks worlds appear. The உம் is often omitted, but then it is less expressive--as, நானிதைச்செய்யெனச்செய்கிறான், I say this and he does it. 1. உம் added to a verbal noun in poetry, sometimes gives it a gerund-like succession of the event--as, காண்டலுமிதுவேசொல்வான், Seeing him he spoke thus; வருதலுந்தழுவிக் கொண்டான், As soon as he came he embraced. 11. உம் is associated to the social ablative with the same meaning--as, கடுங்கணைதொடுத்தலோடும், As soon as the swift arrows were shot. 12. உம் added to the infinitive serves for optative, especially in epistolary usage but not in good style--as, தாங்கள்மறுமொழியனுப்பவும், May you please to send an answer; இப்படிச்செய்யவும், May you do so, I wish you to do so. 13. உம் added to the following forms of a verb, செய்து, செய்யின், செய்தால், has the force of though, although--as, அவனறிந்தும்வரவில்லை. Though he knew, he did not come; சொல்லி னும் or சொன்னாலும்அவன்கேளான், Though you may tell him he will not listen. 14. உம் added to இல் or இன் forms of the fifth case gives the force of the comparative degree --as, கந்தனினும்வலியனே, He is even stronger than Skanda. 15. A token of reproof, menace, anger, &c., also of attention, assent, doubt, non-compliance, &c., (see ஊம்)--as, உம்மெனத்தெழித்துரப்ப, He reproved his rashness by uttering the menacing sound உம் (ஸ்காந்தம்); கதைசொல்லுகி றேன்உம்கொட்டிக்கேள், I am going to tell you a story, show that you listen by saying உம்; உம்மெனுமார்பைத்தட்டும், The guilt of Brahmanicide manifested in a phantom threatened by saying உம் and striking on its breast (திருவிளையாடல்). 16. A termination of the imperative plural, முன்னிலைப்பன்மைவி குதி-- as, நீவிர்சொல்லும், say ye. It is often used honorifically in imperative singular --as, கடவுளேநீரிரங்கும், God be merciful. 17. A termination of verbs third pers. pres. or fut. tense sing. number, also of neut. plurals--as அவன்செய்யும், He does or will do it; சிங்கங்கள்முழங்கும், The lions roar, or will roar, செய்யுமென்முற்றுவிகுதி. 18. A modification of the pronoun நீர் when it is declined in the different cases--as, உம்மை, உம் மால், &c. 19. The termination of the future relative participle, எதிர்காலப்பெயரெச்ச விகுதி--as, உலகாளும்அரசர், Kings who govern the world. 2)

eṭu (p. 73) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To take up, lift up, raise, தூக்க. 2. To take off, take away, extract, take out, remove a stain, dirt, humor, &c., or one body from another, chemically, or otherwise combined, ஒன்றிலிருந்தெடுக்க. 3. To undertake, take in hand, enter upon, தொடங்க. 4. To adopt--as a sentiment, &c., receive, take--as one's own, அங்கீகரிக்க. 5. To take a subject, to discourse, write, think on, look out, find a place in a book, &c., ஆராய்ந்தெடுக்க. 6. To adduce (an argument), ஒன்றையெடுத்துப்பேச. 7. To strike (a sound), pitch the key-note, to try the lightness of a bow-string by striking it, இசையெடுக்க. 8. To select, choose, (as a spot, for a house, a well, &c.), தெரிந்துகொ ள்ள. 9. To buy, purchase (chiefly applicable to cloth), வாங்க. 1. To bear, carry, sustain, சுமக்க. 11. To weigh in a balance, நிறுக்க. 12. v. n. [in combination.] To rise, extend itself, become spread, or liffused, to be attacked with pain, &c., மயக்கமெடுக்க. 13. To swell, heave, rise in billows, எழும்ப. 14. To keck, puke, vomit, வாந்தியெடுக்க. எடுக்கத்தொடுக்கவிடான். He will not let me begin; spoken figuratively in allusion to the discharge of arrows. எடுப்பாரும் பிடிப்பாருமுண்டானாலிளைப்புந்தவிப்பும் மெத்தத்தோன்றும். Where there are many attendants much trouble is experienced. பிள்ளைக்குமூக்கெடுக்க. To raise or force out the upper part of the nose of an infant--as a nurse by pressing with two fingers. அரசனாலயமெடுத்தான். The king has built a temple. இந்தப்பாரமெடுக்கமாட்டேன். I am unable to carry this load. அதையெடுத்துப்பேசினான். He took up the subject. யானைதும்பிக்கையினாலேபணத்தையெடுக்கும். The elephant will take up a small coin with his proboscis. ஏரியெடுத்துப்போகிறது. The water of the lake has carried away its embankment. இதினாலிலாகிரியெடுக்கும். This will cause intoxication. சோற்றிலிருக்கிறகல்லையெடுக்கமாட்டாதவன்மோக னக்கல்லைத்தாங்குவானா. Will he who cannot pick out a stone from rice be able to lift the stone architrave of a temple vestibule? i. e. he who is incapable of little matters must be incapable of great ones. விழுந்தவனையெடாமலுதைக்கலாமா. Is it proper to kick, instead of raising, a fallen man? இந்தச்சீலையையெந்தக்கடையிலெடுத்தாய். In what bazaar did you buy this cloth? புல்லெடுக்கிறதரை. Ground covered with an exuberant growth of grass. எடாதஎடுப்பு, s. Living above one's rank, circumstances, means, &c., engaging in an enterprise, beyond one's powers, &c. எடாதஎடுப்பெடுக்கலாகாது. It is improper to engage in an enterprise above one's circumstances. எடுகூலி, s. Porterage, hire for carrying burdens, சுமைக்கூலி. எடுத்தடிமடக்கு, s. Retort, turning a person's reasons or remarks against himself, confuting one by his own arguments, anticipating a person in word, or action, in order to check, or thwart him in his object; interrupting one in speaking, &c. 2. Temerity, rashness; speaking, answering, or acting rashly, துணிவு. எடுத்தடிவைக்க, inf. To begin to step--as a child, காலைப்பெயர்த்துவைக்க. எடுத்தபடி, adv. Suddenly, at once, promptly, extemporaneously. எடுத்தமொழியினெய்தவைத்தல், v. noun. An author's forming rules applicable to the examples he finds-one of the உத்தி. எடுத்தலளவையாகுபெயர், s. One of the four kinds of அளவையாகுபெயர், according to which, the weight of the article weighed is used for the scale. எடுத்தாட்சி, s. A thing much in use, வழக்கம். எடுத்தார்கைப்பிள்ளை, s. A docile, tractable, yielding person; one who has no opinion of his own. எடுத்துக்கட்ட, inf. To fabricate, invent. எடுத்துக்கட்டு, v. noun. Fabrication, கட்டுக்கதை. 2. Invention--as of a word. எடுத்துக்காட்டல், v. noun. An author's adducing examples, illustrations, &c. (See உத்தி.) 2. Citing, quoting, &c. எடுத்துக்காட்டு, s. An example, illustration, உதாரணம். எடுத்துக்கைநீட்ட, inf. To help one--as a waiter, or attendant. எடுத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To take to one's self, தனக்காகக்கொள்ள. 2. To accept, admit, approve, ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள. எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோக, inf. To take, to carry away. எடுத்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To quote, cite, பிறர்கருத்தைஎடுத்துக்கூற. 2. To give one's own opinion, தன்கருத்தையெடுத்துக்கூற. எடுத்துத்தொடுக்க, inf. To fabricate, invent, எடுத்துக்கட்ட. 2. To pick quarrels, institute a lawsuit, commonly on frivolous grounds, வழக்குப்பிணைக்க. எடுத்துப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold up and expose little faults to view, தூக்கிக் காட்ட. 2. To encourage, strengthen, establish, திடப்படுத்த. எடுத்துப்பேச, inf. to speak as an advocate, plead for a client, பரிந்து பேச. 2. To offer arguments, treat on, நியாயம்பேச. 3. [with accus. of person.] To praise, commonly one absent, துதிக்க. எடுத்துப்போட, inf. To deprive a person of office, situation, &c., to turn out, displace, dislodge, தள்ளிப்போட. எடுத்தேற்றம், s. Random. எடுத்தேற்றமானவேலை, s. A thing done at random. எடுத்தேற்றியாயிருக்க, inf. To be unequal, uneven, discrepant in size, character, rank, &c.; to be irregular, இணக்கமின்றியிருக்க. எடுபட, inf. To be taken up, out, away, &c., நீக்கப்பட. 2. To rise, part, to be detached, displaced, dislodged, எழும்ப. 3. To be abolished, terminated, அழிந்துபோக. 4. To be led away by evil, ill-advice, நியாயந்தவற. 5. To leave one's station, place of residence, &c., to leave and be no more heard of (used in an ill sense), காணாமற்போக. 6. To be overcome in argument--as a party in controversy, &c., to be confuted, தோற்றுப்போக. அவள்பேச்சினாலயலெல்லாமெடுபடுகின்றது... The whole neighborhood is raised by her clamor. எடுபட்டவள், s. A lewd woman, குடும்பத்தைவிட்டுவெளிப்பட்டவள். எடுபட்டுப்போக, inf. To be raised --as a siege. 2. To be abolished. 3. To be defeated. அங்கிருந்தபள்ளிக்கூடம்எடுபட்டுப்போயிற்று.... The school which existed there formerly has been abolished. உன்னால்நானெடுபட்டுப்போவேனா. Am I to be defeated by you? எடுபாடு, s. Celebrity, a high style of living, notoriety in a good or bad sense, உயர்ச்சி. 2. Abolition, அழிகை. 3. Gaiety, in dress, in a woman, a lax, or lascivious disposition, மேட்டிமை. எடுப்பிக்க, inf. To cause to raise, or lift up. மனிதவதாரமெடுக்க, inf. To assume the human form, to become incarnate. வெறியெடுக்க, inf. To be intoxicated. வெறியெடுத்தவன், s. One who is intoxicated. பெயரெடுக்க, inf. To assume an appearance, a name, a character, &c.; to acquire a name, celebrity. நூலெடுக்க, inf. To disentangle thread. வாயாலெடுக்க--வாயிலெடுக்க, inf. To vomit. தொழிலெடுக்க, inf. To enter upon an occupation. 2. To suspend one from office. பூவெடுக்க, inf. To gather flowers. கிணறெடுக்க, inf. To dig a well. 2. [prov.] To select a spot for a well in reference to the situation of the house and other surrounding objects that ill luck may not result, as also to the nature of a soil or the depth at which water may be found, judged of by the produce of the land, &c. வயிறெடுக்க--வயிறுகடுப்பெடுக்க, inf. To have a looseness. தானெடுத்துமொழிதல், v. noun. [in works of science.] The adoption of rules, or language from other authors. See உத்தி. எடுப்பு, v. noun. The act of taking off, taking up, தூக்குகை. 2. Elevation, உயரம். 3. Taking in hand, undertaking attempt, engagement, தொடங்குகை. 4. Insolence. arrogance, pride, haughtiness, superciliousness, இறுமாப்பு. 5. Elation, a style of living above one's rank, circumstances, மேட்டிமை. 6. Abusive words, நிந்தை. எடுத்தஎடுப்புவிடான். He will not desist from his purpose. வாயெடுப்பாய்ப்பேசுகிறவன். One who talks arrogantly. ஒருவன்மேலெடுப்பெடுத்தல். Publishing the faults of another. எடுப்பாயிருக்க, inf. To be high. எடுப்பானவன், s. A haughty person, an upstart, one who lives above his rank or circumstances, மேட்டிமைக் காரன். எடுப்புச்சாய்ப்பு, Gentility, genteel and obliging behavior, united with display, pomp, grandeur, &c., உயர்வுதாழ்வு. எடுப்புண்டது, appel. n. That which is taken and carried away. எடுப்புத்தேர், s. A small portable shrine for the conveyance of an idol on men's shoulders--opp. to இழுப்புத்தேர். கல்லெடுப்பு, s. A funeral rite. எடை, v. noun. etir (p. 73) s. That which is opposite, in front, before, in presence of, over against, முன். 2. That which is opposed, is adverse, hostile, முரண். 3. Similitude, comparison, ஒப்பு. 4. Futurity, வருங்காலம். 5. Rivalry, competition, எதிரிடை. எதிரதுபோற்றல், v. noun. An author's adopting what is authorized by good usage though modern. See உத்தி. எதிரறை, s. Meeting in the way, meeting or receiving a person, எதிர்கொள்ளுகை. விருந்தெதிர்கோடல், v. noun. Inviting guests, or devotees, religious mendicants, &c.--one of the duties enjoined on a householder as the condition of his own participation of the good things of providence. See இல், house. A slanting timber forming a continued line with the ridge and uniting in an angle formed by the slanting hip-rafters on either end of a hipped or bungalo roof. எதிர்ச்சாட்சி, s. Counter testimony; a witness brought to disprove previous testimony, மாறானசாட்சி. எதிர்ச்செட்டு, s. Competition in trade, ஒருவன்விற்பதற்குமாறாகவிற்கை. 2. [prov.] Trading at second hand, buying and selling again directly at a small profit. எதிர்நடை, s. The act of doing perversely. 2. Opposite course. எதிர்நடைக்கணக்கு, s. A register or account kept by each partner in a concern, that one may be examined by the other. எதிர்நிரைநிறை--எதிர்நிரனிறை, s. An arrangement of a series of verbs, &c. in the contrary order to that in which their nouns occur. See முறை நிரனிறை. எதிர்நிலை, s. Resistance, opposition, எதிர்நிற்கை. எதிர்நிலையகத்திணை, s. [in amatory verse.] The rule for elucidating a circumstance by the opposite case, contrast. எதிர்நிற்க, inf. To stand before one, முன்னிற்க. 2. To oppose, to be perverse, or contumacious, மாறுபட்டுநிற்க. 3. To stand against, withstand, cope with, போர்செய்ய. எதிர்நோக்குநட்சத்திரம், s. A nutchattra whose influence has respect to movements and interests in the different points of the compass, not an astrological, but a common phrase; the same as எதிர்நாள், or more properly, பக்கநாள். எதிர்பார்க்க, inf. To wait for an expected person, வரவுபார்த்திருக்க. 2. To expect, to look forward, காத்திருக்க. இருகாரியத்திற்கெதிர்பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. To hope for a thing, to be in expectation of it. எதிர்போக, inf. To go against, oppose, meet as an army, assail, எதிராய் போக. எதிர்ப்பட, inf. To meet as in the way, சந்திக்க. 2. To happen, occur, தோன்ற. எதிர்ப்படுத்த, inf. To confront, எதிராக்க. 2. To stir up strife, cause opposition, பகையாக்க. எதிர்ப்பாடு, v. noun. Meeting, எதிர் ப்படுகை. எதிர்ப்பாய்ச்சல், s. A contrary current; leaping in a contrary direction. எதிர்மறை, s. [in grammar.] The negative forms of expression, மறை--அ, அந், ந், கி, கு, வி, &c. are Sanscrit prefixes expressing negation. எதிர்மறைவினை, s. [in grammar.] The negative verb, மறைவினை. எதிர்முகம், s. kṭl (p. 87) s. The sea, ocean, சமுத்தி ரம். 2. A number, ஓரெண். (பிங்.) The seven oceans of the Puranas are, 1. லவணச முத்திரம், sea of salt-water. 2. இக்ஷுசமுத்திரம், sea of the juice of sugar-cane. 3. சுராசமுத்தி ரம், sea of spirituous liquor. 4. சர்ப்பிசமுத்தி ரம், sea of clarified butter. 5. ததிசமுத்தி ரம், sea of curds. 6. க்ஷீரசமுத்திரம், sea of milk. 7. சுத்தோதகசமுத்திரம், sea of fresh water. கடலுரமாயிருக்கிறது. A fish, ஓர்மீன். கடலோடுதல், v. noun. Navigating, travelling by sea--as mariners, கடல்யாத் திரைசெய்தல். கடலோடி, s. A mariner, a seaman. கடலோரம், s. The sea-shore, கடற்கரை. கடல்கட்டி, s. [prov.] A sea-conjurer who by magic prevents sharks, &c., from injuring divers, கடலிலுள்ளசெந் துக்களைத்தடைகட்டுவோன். கடல்நாய், s. A kind of sea-dog. கடல்நுரை, s. (lit. the froth of the sea.) Sea-shell eaten with age, Ossepi&ae;, the cuttle bone. (See அக்கினிகர்ப்பம்.) It is one of the twenty kinds of உபரசம். 2. A kind of pastry, ஓரப்பம். கடல்மனிதர், s. Sirens, mermen or mermaids. கடல்மாதர், s. Mermaids, நீர்மகளிர். கடல்முனை, s. A cape, promontory, முனைக்கடல். கடல்யாத்திரை, s. Sea-voyage. கடல்வண்ணன், s. Vishnu, விட் டுணு. 2. Ianar, ஐயனார். kṭu (p. 87) s. Poison, venom, நஞ்சு. 2. The Indian gall-nut tree, கடுக்காய்மரம், Terminalia chebula, L. 3. A thorn, முள். 4. Point, sharpness, கூர்மை. 5. A serpent, பாம்பு. (p.) 6. A contraction of கடுமை; which see. கடுவுநஞ்சிறைப்ப. And the serpent ejecting poison-- (கல்லா.) கடுக்காய், s. Indian gall-nut, or ink-nut, அரிதகிக்காய். (Mat. Ind.) கடுக்காய்ச்சாயந்தோய்த்தல், v. noun. Dipping in gall-nut dye. கடுக்காய்த்தலையன், s. A kind of snake, ஓர்பாம்பு. 2. [prov.] A man or bull with a small round head. கடுக்காய்ப்பூ, s. Flower of the gall-nut. கடுக்காய்வேர், s. kṭu (p. 87) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To throb--as from a sting, venomous bite, the prick of a thorn, tooth-ache, விரு விருக்க. 2. To ache--as with colic, dysentery, &c.; to have pain as the leg from walking; the shoulders or head from carrying a load; the mouth from speaking; the arm from writing, &c., உளைய. 3. To be seasoned too highly, or otherwise spoiled--as curry, commonly, கடுகடுக்க. 4. (p.) To be like, to resemble, ஒக்க. 5. To be in doubt, or uncertainty, to hesitate, ஐயுற. 6. To be angry, impatient, fretful, கோபிக்க. 7. To pass swiftly, விரைய. கடுத்தபின். When (the king) suspects. (குறள்.) கடுத்துப்போனதண்ணீர். Bad water, water unpleasant to the taste. அடுத்ததுகாட்டும்பளிங்கேபோல்நெஞ்சங்கடுத்ததுகா ட்டுமுகம். The face indicates the resentment of the heart, as the mirror reflects the shape of things placed before it. ஊமன்கண்ணிலாதவற்குரைத்தலுங்காண்டலுங்கடுக் கும். It is as if a blind man saw a thing which a dumb man told him to look at. கடுவரைநீரிற்கடுத்துவரக்கண்டு. Seeing it coming as rapidly as the impetuous mountain torrent-- (வெண்பாமாலை.) கடுத்துப்பேச, inf. To speak harshly. கடுப்ப, inf. Used as a particle of comparison--as பிள்ளைகடுப்பப்பிணம்பிறங்க, the bodies (of those who fell in battle) appeared (to move their dying limbs) like infants. (வெண்பா.) கடுத்தல், v. noun. Doubt, ஐயம். 2. Wrath, கோபம். 3. Vehemence, வேகம். 4. Comparison, உவமை. (p.) கடுப்பு, v. noun. Pains, throbbing, throe, எரிவு. 2. Anger, displeasure, impatience, peevishness, சினம். 3. Speed, rapidity, impetuosity, great haste, வேகம். அவருடையகடுப்பெல்லாமாறிப்போயிற்று. His peevish arrogance is now all gone (his means being reduced). கடுப்பிறக்குதல், v. noun. Reducing one's pride, arrogance. கடுப்புக்கழிச்சல், s. A painful dysentery. கடுப்புச்சூடு, v. noun. Cauterizing oxen after castrating as a counteroperation to promote healing. கடுப்பெடுத்தல், v. noun. Being in pain, aching. 2. Reducing one's pride, arrogance. வாதக்கடுப்பு, s. Rheumatic pains in the limbs. நீர்க்கடுப்பு, s. Dysury, strangury. மூலக்கடுப்பு, s. Dysentery, tenesmus. வயிற்றுக்கடுப்பு, s. Griping of the bowels. மனக்கடுப்பு, s. Indignation, resentment. 72)

kṭukṭu (p. 87) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. [intens. of கடுத்தல்.] To show signs of anger by sour looks, harsh words, &c., சினக்குறிப் புக்காட்ட. 2. To speak harshly, கோபமாகப் பேச. 3. To throb--as the flesh after the bite of a scorpion, the sting of a venomous insect, or the severe prick of a thorn, &c., விருவிருக்க. 5. To be highly seasoned, உறைக்க. கறிகடுகடுத்துப்போயிற்று. The curry is too highly seasoned; i. e. too salt, too acid, &c., the taste being unpleasant. கடுகடுத்தமுகம், s. An angry, austere countenance. கடுகடுத்துப்பேச, inf. To speak harshly. கடுகடுப்பு, v. noun. Sullenness, displeasure of countenance, வெறுப்பு. 2. Being highly seasoned. கடுகடுப்பாயிருத்தல், v. noun. Being austere, angry. 73)
