ulai (p. 66) s. A smith's forge, or furnace, கொல்லனுலை. 2. A fireplace for cooking, a hearth, நெருப்புள்ளவடுப்பு. 3. A pot of water set on the fire, or fireplace for cooking, பாகஞ்செய்யவைக்குநீருலை. உலைகட்ட, inf. To decorate the top of a pot with mango leaves and set it on the fireplace with water to receive the rice that is to be boiled and distributed among religious mendicants, or offered in the temple, பொங்கற்பானைக்குமா விலைசெருகியகயிறுகட்ட. உலைகாயவைக்க, inf. To set the rice-pot on the fire filled with water to be heated. உலைகொதிக்க, inf. To boil as water when placed on the fire for cooking, &c. உலைக்களம், s. A smith's forge, கொல்லனுலையிடம். உலைக்குறடு, s. A smith's tongs, இரும்பெடுக்குங்குறடு. உலைத்தண்ணீர்--உலைநீர், s. Water set over the fire for cooking, பாகஞ்செய்ய வைக்குந்தண்ணீர். 2. Water used by the smith in the work of the forge, இரும்பு தோய்க்குநீர். உலைத்துருத்தி, s. A smith's bellows, உலையூதுந்துருத்தி. உலைமுகம், s. A smith's furnace or the centre of the forge, கொல்லனுலையி டம். உலைமூக்கு, s. The hole in the forge in which the bellows are inserted, கொல் லனுலைநாசி. உலைமூடி, s. The cover of a pot used for heating water, உலைப்பானையின் மேல்மூடி. ஊரைவாய்மூடவுலைமூடியில்லை. There is no lid that will cover the country. உலைமூட்ட, inf. To construct a forge and make it ready for work, கொல்லனுலையாயத்தம்பண்ண. 2. To make a fire in the smith's forge, கொல்லனுலை யில்நெருப்புமூட்ட. 3. To make a fire for cooking, அடுப்புமூட்ட. உலைமூட்டினாலுண்டுலகு. If the smith construct the forge, the world will stand. உலையாணிக்கோல், s. A smith's poker, beak-iron, உலையிருப்புக்கோல். 2. A branding-iron, சுட்டுக்கோல். உலையில்வெந்தவிரும்பு, s. Iron well burnt in a smith's forge. உலையேற்ற--உலைவைக்க, inf. To set a pot on the fire, உலைப்பானையையடுப்பி லேவைக்க. அவன்என்தலைக்குஉலைவைக்கிறான். He puts a rice-pot on the fire for my head; i. e. he meditates my ruin. இன்னமுலைவைக்கவில்லை. The rice-pot has not yet been set on the fire. 28)

uptēci (p. 61) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To teach divine things, give spiritual advice, போதிக்க. 2. To initiate the disciple into the mysteries of his religion by teaching religious rites, incantations, சமயாசாரமுணர்த்த. 3. To give advice or instruction in general, புத்திசொல்ல. 4. To persuade, prevail upon by giving secret advice, சம்மதிக்கச்செய்ய. உபதேசி, s. A Catechist, போத கன். This word is used only among Christians. 34) *

urvunīr (p. 64) s. The sea in motion, the sea, sea-water, உவர்நீர்; [ex உரவு, a change of உலவு, et நீர்.] (p.) உரவுநீர்க்கருங்கடலுடுத்தமாநிலத்து. Upon the sea-girt earth (lit.) on the earth enclosed by the blue ocean of moving water. 5)

uṟi (p. 67) s. A bow or hoop, in which to place a pot suspended by a string from the roof of the house, from the hand, or at the end of a pole carried on the shoulder, தூக்கு. உருசைகண்டபூனையுறியையுறியைத்தாவுகிறது. The cat which has tasted nice things will continually jump on the shelf; i. e. stolen goods are sweet. உறிக்கலயம்--உறிச்சட்டி, s. Different kinds of kitchen utensils suspended in the hoop. உறிபோட, inf. To construct such a net work of rope or ratan. உறியடி--உறியித்திருநாள், s. The pot breaking--a ceremony performed at the close of a festival among the worshippers of Vishnu in honor of Krishna who is reputed to have stolen butter, ghee, &c., from suspended pots, ஓர்திருவிழா. உறியடிக்க, inf. To perform the ceremony of breaking pots. உறியடுக்குச்சட்டி, s. A number of kitchen utensils hung up. உறியிற்சமணர், s. Ascetics of the Jaina sect who sit in swings that they may not destroy insect life, சமண்முனி வரிலோர்பாலார். 75)

uyrttu (p. 63) கிறேன், உயர்த்தினேன், வேன், உயர்த்த, v. a. To lift up, elevate, raise higher--as a wall in building, a heap, &c., உயரச்செய்ய. 2. To raise (the price), increase (expenditure), அதிகப்படுத்த. 3. To promote to higher office, to make great, to exalt, ennoble, dignify, aggrandize, மேலாக்க. 4. To extol, magnify, praise, கனப்படுத்த. 5. To receive one with honors, show respect, treat in a dignified manner, உபசரிக்க. 6. To raise the voice in singing, speaking, &c., to lift up the heart, affections, thoughts, &c., எழுப்ப. 7. To raise an arm, a leg, a weapon, &c., to raise the head above water, raise the head when in a lying posture, மேலெடுக்க. 8. To improve one's character, improve one's dignity, moral worth, raise one's self to a higher degree in preparation for a future state, ஒழுக்கத்தினாலுயர்த்த. 9. To assume, elevate one's self, make much of one's powers, பெருமைப்படுத்த.--Note. Instances of உயர்த் தல், in the past are found in verse, but in the present and future it seems to be seldom or never found. நரகந்தன்படத்தையுயர்த்திக்காட்டும். The cobra raises its hood and exhibits it. சேவலையுயரியதேவநாயகன். The leader of the gods (skanda) who has exalted the cock as his banner. வலனுயர்த்தவண்ணலஞ்சேல். The lofty carp banner which has exalted victory to view. (நைடதம்.) உயர்த்திப்பேச, inf. To dignify, speak of one with high respect. உயர்த்தியாய்க்கேட்க, inf. To bid high in an auction, &c. 16)
