To pray, beseech, entreat, solicit, வேண்டிக்கொள்ள. இரந்தும்பரந்தவர்க்கீந்தவர். Those who give to beggars although they themselves have to ask alms. இரந்துணி--இரந்துண்ணி, s. A beggar, இரப்போன். To associate or consort with one, சங்கர த்தஞ்செய்ய. 4. To unite, knit--as broken bones, பொருந்த. 5. To cohabit, கூடிவாழ. 6. To meet--as rivers in confluence, or as roads, சந்திக்க. 7. To become reconciled, pacified, conciliated, இணங்க. 8. To be able, be possible, practicable, attainable, இயல. 9. To be lawful, expedient, proper, decent, தகுதியாக. 1. A calf in company with a swine will learn to devour filth; i. e. a man will conform to his associates. இதுஅவனாலேகூடும். He is able to do it. இனிஅவன்கூடான். Henceforth, he will be good-for-nothing. இதுகாரியத்துக்குக்கூடும். This will serve the purpose. நடுவழியிலேகூடினான். He met me in the middle of the road. கூடிப்பிரியேல். Break not (old) friendships. (Av.) அமாவாசைகூடிவிட்டது. [prov.] The time of new moon has already come. ஆளோடேகூடிவிட்டான். He has begun to come into society (from obscurity or boyhood). 2. He is convalescent; he is getting around. ஆகக்கூடியதொகை. The total amount. கூடிக்கொள்ள, inf. To band together; to form an association, to take part in, to side with. 2. To meet together, to assemble. 3. To exceed, surpass. 4. To gain strength and vigor. கூடிவர, inf. To accompany. 2. To prosper, succeed. கூடிநாடித்திரிய, inf. To associate or consort with one, to be on terms of close friendship. கூடாநட்பு, s. False friendship. கூடாவுவமை, s. [in rhet.] A simile in which the comparison is made with a thing having only a hypothetical existence, ஓர்உவமையலங்காரம். கூடாவொழுக்கம், s. Immoral conduct --as of anchorets who in secret break their vows. கூடல், v. noun. Approaching, assembling, &c.; seeking, uniting, cohabiting, being possible, &c.--as the verb கூடு. See also கூடல். s. கூடாமை, neg. [v. noun.] Impropriety, indecorum, பொருந்தாமை. 2. Inability, impossibility, impracticability. கூட்டரவு, v. noun. Collection, aggregate, series, பொருட்கூட்டம். 2. Crowd, association, combination. கூட, inf. [adverbially.] Together, in company, collecting together. 2. Even, also; often in composition with உம். 3. More than due, more than enough, too much; additionally. 4. part. With, together with. எல்லாருங்கூடவாருங்கள். Come all together. குருவுக்குக்கூடப்பயப்படான். He is not afraid even of his guru. அவன்வீட்டிலேதண்ணீர்கூடக்குடியார்கள்.... They will not drink even water in his house--said in disparagement. நான்கூடஅறியேன். I also know it. அவனுக்குக்கூடக்கொடுத்துப்போட்டீர். You have given him too much. ஐந்துரூபாய்கூடத்தந்தார். He gave five rupees in addition. என்கூடவா. Come with me. கூடிய--கூடின, rel. part. Practicable, possible, convenient, proper, &c. என்னாற்கூடியபணிவிடைக்குக்காத்திருக்கிறேன். I am ready to do any service in my power. கூடியமட்டும்--கூடியமாத்திரம். As far or as much as possible; as much as one is able; to the utmost. கூடும். It is possible, proper, fit, practicable, lawful, &c. கூடாது. It is impossible, impracticable, inconvenient, improper, unlawful, unfit, &c. 2. Note to be done--either as command or an entreaty--according to the manner and tone of the speaker. கால்கைகூடாது. My hands and feet are worn out; i. e. with hard work. என்னாற்கூடாது. I cannot; I will not. கூடாதகாரியம். An impossible thing. கூடலர்--கூடார், s. Enemies, foes, aliens, பகைவர். 26)

cerukku (p. 204) s. Haughtiness, wantonness, pride, vanity, self-conceit, self-importance, self-sufficiency, அகங்காரம். 2. Inflation from pride; intoxication with vanity, wealth, office, &c., கர்வம். 3. Exultation, excessive joy, joviality, elation, களிப்பு. 4. Boldness, daring, mettle, intrepidity, frenzy, arrogance, audacity, presumption, temerity. rashness, wilfulness, ஆண்மை. 5. The feeling or vanity of self-agency, instead of ascribing one's actions, &c., to the deity, ஆணவம். 6. Infatuation, illusion, the diversion of the mental powers from their proper course, or from seeking the supreme good, the predominance of the senses over reason, மயக்கம். 7. A wanton, vain, presumptuous person. செருக்காய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak proudly, to assume too much. செருக்காய்வளர்க்க, inf. To bring up in a delicate manner, செல்லமாய்வளர்க்க. செருக்குக்காட்ட, inf. To show pride, to be vain, self-important, self-conceited. செருக்குப்பண்ண, inf.. To act proudly, arrogantly, wantonly. படைச்செருக்கு, s. Daring intrepidity, high spirits, vaunting and bravado, &c., of the soldier. செருக்கடிக்க, inf. To vaunt with an inarticulate sound. (c.) பணச்செருக்கு, s. Pride of money. கல்விச்செருக்கு, s. A benevolent, gracious person. தயாபரன், s. (voc. தயாபரா.) The gracious god. 2. (fem. தயாபரி.) A beneficent man. நரசீலதயாபரர். God, who is bountiful towards men. தயாமூர்்த்தி, s. The incarnation of benevolence. தயாவிருத்தி, s. Increase of grace, கிரு பைமிகுதல். 2. The fourteen acts of beneficence, தயாவிருத்தி, 14.--The first seven relate to the soul, the other seven to the body. Of the soul; 1. களாபடனம், education, communication of knowledge, கல் விபயிற்றுகை; 2. வியாதாகாரம், comfort to the afflicted, consolation of mind, துயர்தீர்க்கை; 3. நிர்க்கத்தண்டனம், relieving from punishment, தண்டம்நீக்குகை; 4. சந்தேகவாரணம், removing doubts, contingency, &c., ஐயந் தேற்றுகை; 5. அன்னியகுணசகனம், hearing of the superiority of others without envy, and enduring their infirmities with patience, பிறந்குணத்தழுக்காறின்றிப்பொறுத்தல்; 6. பரதிருதுனயோகம், forgetting the evils inflicted by others and seeking to do them good, பிறராற்செய்யப்படுந்தீமையைமறந்தூன்றிநி னைக்கை; 7. பார்த்ததேவப்பிராத்திதம், praying for the prosperity and good of others, பிறர்நிமித்தந்தேவனைவழிபடுதல். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

tvi (p. 228) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be distressed for want of water, food, &c., to sigh, pant or languish for, தாபம டைய. 2. To be in great anxiety for, to feel concerned about, உபத்திரவப்பட. 3. To be in distress, jeopardy, danger, வரந்த; [exதவனம்.] (c.) கன்றைத்தேடிப்பசுதவிக்கிறது. The cow is in distress seeking its calf. தவித்துக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To walk about in a melancholy way. தவிப்பு, v. noun. Anxiety, distress for a thing, great longing for, sighing for, languishing for, வருத்தம். தவிப்புத்தீர்க்க, inf. To satisfy one's hunger, thirst, &c. 11)

tēṭu (p. 258) கிறேன், தேடினேன், வேன், தேட, v. a. To seek, serch for, inquire, after, நாட. 2. To acquire, earn, procure, சம்பாதிக்க. 3. [vul.] To take care of, cherish, foster. provide for, பராமரிக்க. 4. To inquire about one, to ask after his welfare, உசாவ. (c.) தேடிப்புதைத்துத்தெருவிலிரக்கிறதா. Does he hide what he gets and beg in the street? தேடிமுடியாது. No search can discover it. It cannot be got by seeking. தேடினபூண்டுகாலிலேமிதிபட்டது. The plant sought is under foot; i. e. the thing desired at hand. தேடாக்கூறு, s. [prov.] A state of neglect, பராமரிப்பின்மை; also தேட்டாக்கூறு. தேடாக்கூறாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be neglected. தேடாத்தேட்டம், s. Acquisition by unparalleled labor, acquisition by unworthy or unjust means. தேடிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To get for another. 2. To support dependants by labor, &c. தேடித்திரிய, inf. To go in search of, to seek for. தேடித்தின்ன, inf. To live by unworthy means. 2. To live by whoredom. தேடிப்பார்க்க, inf. To search for. 2. To use means for obtaining. (c.) தேடிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To seek and find out. 2. To get a paramour, as an unchaste woman. தேடியதேட்டம், s. [in law.] Property acquired, as distinguished from dowry, legacies, or that which is hereditary. தேடியாடித்திரிய--தேடியோடித்திரிய, inf. To take great pains to search. தேடிவைக்க, inf. To gather and reserve for the future, to lay up. தேடேன், neg. I seek not. 9)

niṉ (p. 277) [a change of Sa. prefix நிர், before soft letters.] For most of the compounds, see under நிர். நின்மலம், s. Purity, immaculateness. நின்மலாவத்தை, s. [also மேலாலவத் தை.] Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, seeking deliverance from Malam. They are five-fold: 1. நின்மலச்சாக்கிரம், soul's coming to a full vision; 2. நின்மலசொப்பனம், not being affected by the elements; 3. நின்ம லகழுத்தி, insensibility to sinful desires; 4. நின்மலதுரியம், reaching the region of நீ நீக்குப்போக்கு, s. An opening, interstice or gap; used chiefly in the negative, இடைவெளி. 2. Means, pecuniary ability, வழிவகை. 3. Routine of business, கிரியைக் கிரமம். 4. Management, contrivance, உ பாயம். அதற்கொருநீக்குப்போக்குபண்ணும். Devise some means for that. நீக்குப்போக்கில்லாமல். Without proper openings or order. நீக்குப்போக்கறியாதவன், appel. n. One unacquainted with business, a notice. 2. One ignorant of etiquette. நிக்குப்போக்கில்லாதவன், appel. n. One destitute of pecuniary means. 221)

pṟ (p. 303) க்கிறது, ந்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To fly, hover, flutter or float in the air as light bodies, சிறகாற்பறக்க. 2. To move with celerity or velocity, to hasten or scamper away, வேகமாய்ச்செல்ல 3. To be scattered, to disperse, disappear, சிதற. 4. To be in a hurry, to be over-hasty, அவசரப்பட, (c.) 5. [vul.] To suffer, வருந்த. பறக்கப்பார்க்கிறார். He is aspiring to things above him. ஏன்பறக்கிறாய். Why are you in a hurry? Why are you over-anxious? அடித்தஅடியில்பிள்ளைபறந்துவிட்டது. The child suffered much by beating. பறக்கடிக்க, inf. [com. for பறக்கஅடி க்க.] To cause to fly, to scatter. see சிதறடிக்க. பறக்கவிட, inf. To let fly, as a bird, or a paper kite. 2. To defeat, to ruin. 3. To tease one by incessant importunity. பறக்கிறதூள், s. Flying dust, a cloud of dust. பறந்தடிக்க, inf. [prov.] To be too busy, too much hurried, full of eares, &c. பறந்தலைய--பறந்துதிரிய, inf. To go about rapidly being greedy as birds or prey for food, &c., or an avaricious person. பறந்துபோக, inf. To go quickly. 2. To be dispersed, to be utterly gone, as property disease or sin. பறந்துவிழ, inf. To fall on with avidity, in taking food. பறப்பன, appel. n. Flying, darting, flight; haste, hurry, quickness, speed, as the verb. 2. Anxiety, care, concern, business, கவ்வை. பறப்பன், s. A hasty person. (R.) பறப்பிலேதிரிய, inf. To go about seeking one's living. 2. To go about full of care. பறப்புப்பார்க்க, inf. To attend to one's daily avocations or personal concerns; also வயிற்றுப்பறப்பிலேதிரிய. 32)

This in grammar embraces: 1. அகப்பொருள், rules for amatory verses, see அகப்பாட்டுறுப்பு; 2. புறப்பொருள், rules for war-chants; which see. பொருளுதவி, s. A pecuniary aid. பொருள்கோள், s. Modes of constructing verse of which eight are given; 1. ஆற்றுநீர்ப்பொருள்கோள், natural, as the nominative accompanied by its various attributes, adjuncts, &c., followed by its object, if any, and concluded by the verb; 2. மொழிமாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், construction, in which the nominative and verb are interchanged, with another nominative and verb; 3. நிரனிறைப்பொருள் கோள், when subjects, and attributes, or nominatives and their verbs, are given in distinct series, see நிரனிறை; 4. விற் பூண் or விற்பூட்டுப்பொருள்கோள், when the nominative is at the beginning, and its verb at the end, or the contrary; 5. தரப்பிசைப்பொருள்கோள், when a noun or verb belongs alike to the preceding and following parts of a verse or sentence, see தாப்பிசை; 6. அளைமறிபாப்புப்பொ ருள்கோள், another kind of construction, see அளை; 7. கொண்டுகூட்டுப்பொருள்கோள், a construction which requires the words to be selected here and there; 8. அடிமறி மாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், a verse in which the lines of the stanza are interchangeable, see அடிமறிமாற்று. பொருள்விளங்கவைத்தல், v. noun. A proper arrangement of words to give the meaning. 52)

viṉā (p. 398) s. Sagacity, prudence, புத்தி. 2. Attention, ஞாபகம். 3. A question.--oppos. to விடை, கேள்வி. 4. One of the modes of explanation. See உரை. 5. (Beschi.) in computation, where the numbers are of the same kind, and the integers and fractions each one வினா, as 1 is one வினா, 1?? two வினா; 1?? 1/4 that is an integer with two fractions is three வினா. அதெனக்குவினாவில்லை. I don't remember it. அவனுக்குவினாப்போதாது. He has not sufficient discretion. வினாவோடேகேள். Hear with attention. தேவினாமூர்த்தம், s. Interrogation, a query, a problem. வினா, 5., There are according to சது. five special categories, in questioning; 1. அறியான்வினாவல், asking what one does not know; 2. அறிவொப்புக்காண்டல், seeking to learn whether another's knowledge agrees with one's own; 3. ஐயமறுத்தல், clearing up of doubts; 4. அவனறிவுதரன் கோடல், learning what the other knows; 5. மெய்யவற்குக்காட்டல், discovering the truth.--According to Nannul these are அறிவினா, அறயாவினா,ஐயவினா, கொளல்வினா, கொ டுத்தல்வினா, ஏவும்வினா. வினாக்குறிப்பு, s. [in gram.] An interrogative pronoun, especially, எவன் and ஆர். வினாப்பெயர், s. An interrogative pronoun. வினாவறிபருவம், s.
