kẕṟṟu (p. 98) கிறேன், கழற்றினேன், வேன், கழற்ற, v. a. To unloose, unfasten, loosen, unhang, unhinge, unlock, unhook, unbolt, unrivet, uncrew, unbutton, unfetter, &c., கழலச்செய்ய. 2. To strip, take off (clothes, jewels, &c.). unclothe, divest, put off the shoes, hat, head-dress, &c; to dismantle, unrig, ஆடைமுதலியனகழற்ற. 3. To disentangle, extricate, disengage, disencumber, நீக்க. 4. To slough the skin--as snakes, horns--as deer, feathers--as birds; to molt, தோல்முதலியனகழற்ற. (c.) அவன்கடுக்கனைக்கழற்றிக்கொடுத்தான். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

tḷai (p. 229) s. A tie, fastening, bandage, கட்டு. 2. Fetter, shackles for the legs, கால்விலங்கு. (c.) 3. Enclosure of an unblown flower, மல ர்க்கட்டு. 4. Imprisonment, immuring, சிறை. 5. The காற்கொலுசு, ankle-rings. 6. A foot trinket, காற்சிலம்பு. 7. Men's locks of hair, ஆண்மயிர். 8. [prov.] A partition, division, in rice fields. வயலின்பிரிவு. (c.) 9. A tie, a bond, (met.) a bond of union, பந்துகட்டு. 1. [prov.] The office of an உடையார். 11. The metrical connection of the last syllable of any foot with the first of the succeeding, one of the six செய்யுளுறுப்பு, வரு ஞ்சீரின் முதலசை யொன்றியுமொன்றாமலுங்கூடிநிற்பது. --Note. The poetic தளை are of seven kinds embracing four classes. I. ஆசிரி யத்தளை. connexion of ஆசிரியம் verse of two species. 1. நேரொன்றாசிரீயத்தளை, combination of simple syllables in the ஆசிரியம் connexion, or of one simple ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. 2. நிரையொன்றாசிரியத்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or the connexion of one compound ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. II. வெண்டளை, connexion of வெண் பா verse, also of two species. 1. வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை, combination of genuine வெண்சீர் foot, or of one வெண்சீர் foot with another foot, biginning with a simple syllable 2. இயற்சீர்வெண்டளை, combination of simple, or ஆசிரியம் feet, or connexion of an ஆசிரியம் foot ending with a compound syllable with another foot beginning with a simple syllable, or vice versa. III. கலித்தளை, connexion of the கலிப்பா verse, being single, viz.; that of வெண்சீர் foot ending with a syllable with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. IV. வஞ்சித்தளை, connexion of வஞ்சி verse of two species. 1. ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. 2. ஒன்றாதவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of a compound with a simple syllable, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another beginning with a simple syllable. For syllables and feet and their different species, see அசை and சீர். வளைபட்டகைமாதொடு மக்களெனுந் தளைபட்டழியத் தகுமோதகுமோ. Should I perish by being bound with my bracelet-adorned wife and children. தளைகழற்றிவிட, inf. To unloose or take off fetters. தளைத்தட்ட, inf. To fail or be defective, as a connection in verse, தளைதவற. தளைநார், s. [prov.] A foot brace for a tree-climber. தளைபட--தளைப்பட, inf. To be imprisoned, to be taken captive, சிறைப்பட. 2. To be bound, confined, restrained, கட்டுப்பட. தளைப்பூட்ட--தளைபோட, inf. To fetter, to shackle. தளைப்பொருத்தம், s. Harmonious combination of the தளை, in verse, தளையினிணக்கம். தளையவிழ, inf. To blossom as a flower, பூமலர. 2. To be unbound, to be unrestrained, கட்டவிழ. தளைவைக்க, inf. [prov.] To invest one with the office of உடையார். தளைவார், s. Beauty, அழகு.--There are different kinds of torches, as இரும்புப்பந் தம், எரிபந்தம், ஏணிப்பந்தம், காடபந்தம், which See in their places; also துணிப்பந்தம், or வண் ணார்பந்தம், a torch made of rags obtained from washermen. பந்தக்காட்சி--பந்தம்பறி, s. A ceremony observed at the close of some Saiva festivals, when the torches are snatched away by the people to represent what the wife of Siva did to him when angry. பந்தங்கட்ட, inf. To make flambeaus. முகத்திலேபந்தங்கட்டிக்கொண்டுநிற்கிறான்..... His face flames with anger. பந்தஞ்செய்ய, inf. To tie, to bind. 2. To bind the soul in bodies, to connect it with matter or births. பந்ததயிலம், s. A kind of medicinal oil, சுடர்த்தயிலம். பந்தமுட்டி, s. Torches arranged so as to represent an elephant. (Beschi.) பந்தமும்வீடும். Bondage and liberation of souls; all creatures being affected by these. (p.) பந்தம்பிடிக்க, inf. To carry torches. பந்தம்போட, inf. To make and light a torch. பந்தவரிசை, s. A course or order of lights in a procession, தீவர்்த்தியின்வரிசை. 2. A play with flambeaus lighted at each end, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. பந்தவிளக்கு, s. A flambeau. பந்தர், s. [also பத்தர்.] Persons in bondage; those under the influence of moral evil on account of the sins of former births, and not yet eligible for divine illumination, பாசத்துக்குள்ளானவர்கள். 85) *

(p.) பாசக்கட்டு--பாசபந்தம்--பாசப்பிணி, s. Entanglements of the soul, as connected with births. பாசசம்பந்தம், s. Bondage of the soul, union with matter. பாசசாலம், s. The vast illusions by பாசம். See தரிசனம். பாசநாசம், s. Annihilation of the three evil principles in the soul, by the தீட்சை, of the guru, or of the deity in the form of a guru. பாசபந்தம்--பாசக்கயிறு, s. A rope with a noose. [usage.] பாசபந்தர்--பாசபந்திகள்--பாசபெத் தர்--பாசபெந்தர், s. [pl.] Those engrossed, or bound by the entanglements of matter, the senses, &c. பாசபாணி, s. Varuna, வருணன். 2. Messenger of Yama, இயமதூதன்; (lit.) the rope-armed. 2. Yama, the god of death, நமன்; [ex பரணி, hand.] பாசமோசனம்--பாசவிமோசனம், s. Release of the soul from earthly entanglements. பாசம்வீச, inf. To cast the noose, as Yama, to capture the soul at death; to cast a noose, on the foe in battle. பாசவிருள், s. The darkness of illusion from மும்மலம், or the threefold defilements, ஆணவம், மாயை, and காமியம். பாசவைராக்கியம், s. Settled hatred of the principle of evil in the senses, leading to self-denial and rigid austerities, பாசத்தைவெறுக்கை. பாசன், s. The soul as subject to births and mundane attachments, சீவன். (சது.) 2. Yama, நமன். பாசாங்குசன்--பாசாங்குசதரன், s. Ganesa as armed with a noose, and an elephant-hook, கணேசன்; [ex அங்குசம்.] 3)
