tṉi (p. 231) [impers. used adverbially and as an adjective.] Alone, solitary, sequestered, secluded, distinct, separate, detached, insulated, தனிமையான. 2. Sole, single, only, individual, ஒன்றான. 3. Unique, matchless. unparalled, ஒப்பில்லாத. 4. Unlike, without an equal, one of the pair--the other being wanting, ஒற்றையான. 5. Independent, absolute, entire, சுவாதீனமான. 6. Pure, simple, unadulterated, unalloyed, genuine, கலப் பில்லாத. 7. Deserted, forsaken, forlorn, helpless, ஏதுமற்ற. --Note. க், ச், த், ப், are doubled after தனி. (c.) தனிக்கடவுள், s. Absolute deity, the matchless deity. தனிக்காட்டுராசா, s. A sole sovereign in a jungle. (c.) தனிக்காப்பு, s. An invocation, comprized in a single verse. தனிக்குடி, s. (also ஒன்றிக்குடி.) A solitary family. 2. One family of a caste, living among other castes. 3. Keeping house separately, as distinguished from living under the paternal roof. தனிக்குடை, s. The umbrella of an autocrat; (fig.) absolute sovereignty, தனியாசாட்சி. தனிக்குடைநிழற்ற. To spread the imperial umbrella, to govern. (p.) தனிக்குறில்--தனிக்குற்றெழுத்து, s. A single short consonant. தனிக்கோலான், s. He whose government is incomparable, the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. An independent sovereign. (p.) தனிச்சமையல், v. noun. Cooking for a single person, for one's self only, &c., தனிச்செய்கை, v. noun. Cultivating land alone, not jointly with others. தனிச்சொல், s. (Bab. Gram. p. 8.) A detached foot in வெண்பா and other verse, between two lines, தனிச்சீர். 2. A single or uncombined word. தனித்தனியே, adv. Individually, separately, each one singly, each alone. --Note. The ஏ is often added whether தனி be repeated or not--as தனியே. தனித்தாட்டன், s. [prov.] A large monkey that keeps distinct from, or goes before, the drove. தனித்தியலிடுகுறிப்பெயர், s. A specific name, including many individuals, or some varieties. தனித்தேட்டம், s. Amassing wealth alone, without the burden of a family. தனிநிலை, s. Solitariness, தனி்துநிற் கை. 2. (in gram.] The letter ஃ, ஆய்த வெழுத்்து. தனிப்பட, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be left alone, to be forseken. 2. To be solitary. 3. To be kept alone as witnesses and prisoners, or apart, detached--as persons, or animals. (c.) தனிப்படச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I will tell you in secret. தனிப்பட்டு, s. A single or distinct fold, plait, strand or string, one out of several folds of a necklace. 2. (c.) Silk only, all silk. தனிப்பயணம், s. Travelling alone, as தனிவழி. தனிப்பன்றி, s. A wild boar alone, as more ferocious and dangerous than others. தனிப்பாடு, v. noun. Loneliness, solitude. தனிமை. 2. Bearing the whole labor, responsibility, &c., alone, முழப் பொறுப்பு. (c.) தனிப்பாட்டு, s. A single verse unconnected with a series, விடுபாட்டு. தனிப்பால், s. Pure, unadulterated milk. (c.) தனிப்புரக்க, inf. To reign alone, to be an autocrat, தனியரசாள. (p.) தனிப்புறம், s. A solitary place, or state. (c.) தனிப்பூடு, s. An onion, or other bulbous root not divided. தனிப்பெற, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be placed alone, apart, distinct, insulated. (c.) தனிப்பெறஎடுத்துக்கொண்டான். He took the whole to himself. தனிப்போர், s. A single combat. 2. [in card playing.] One of the players, winning all the cards, கடிதமாடுவோரிலொரு வர்வெல்லுகை. 3. [in trade.] An individual monopolizing all the profits, தன்வசமாக்குகை. தனிமுதல், s. Trading alone, with one's own capital. 2. (p.) The matchless and only God, absolute deity, கட வுள். தனிமொழி, s. A simple uncompounded word. தனியரசாட்சி, s. Universal sovereignty. தனியன்--தனியான், s. A single man or woman, one unmarried, living alone; a wild beast detached from the herd, and thus rendered ferocious, ஒன்றி. 2. A solitary animal tree, fruit, &c., த னித்தது. 3. As தனிப்பாட்டு. தனியிருக்க--தனியேயிருக்க, inf. To be alone, to be alone at home. தனியுவமம், s. Using a word in a figurative sense, as கன்னெஞ்சு, a stony heart. தனியெழுத்து, s. Single letters, in distinction from சுட்டெழுத்து, compound letters. தனிவழி, s. A lonely way. 2. Travelling alone. தனிவீடு, s. A solitary house. 2. A house with one square only.
